Sunday morning light, somehow, always seems softer.  I don't think that is a coincidence.  

There is so much madness in the world right now.  It would be so easy for us to succumb to all of the unfairness; all of the ridulousness; all of the cruelness; all of the sadness; and all of the unknown.

But we cannot. And we must not. We have to hold on to each other.  We have to keep putting one foot in front of the other.  We have to keep sharing with each other.

And we have to keep loving each other.  


As long as there is new life, we have hope.  And as long as we have hope, we have life.

Late Babies of Summer

These late babies of summer have been so very special.  Reminiscent of the first summer years ago when I witnessed Papa Goose and his beloved Mama duck raise all of her babies to adulthood - something that now, for some reason, is harder and harder for the ducklings to achieve.  It has nothing to do with Papa's valiant and vigilant efforts, however.  He never stops and he never stops being amazing.

Amazingly beautiful, yes he is!  





And this is his home where he is doing what he was meant to do. 







May his light and his love shine on and on and on ....

Hello Monday and hello you!  :-)

These are some recent images that I thought you might enjoy!  The swan family that you see crossing the street are doing so well on the lake.  Absolutely makes my heart soar to see them together and as how they should be.  Papa Goose has been VERY busy with his ducklings and oh my gosh - are they ever ever adorable!  It is so hard for me to walk away!  But alas, I must and do.  I have been framing  images to take to the local gallery where I have some of my work and for my Etsy shop.  I am savoring the remaining crepe myrtle blooms that surround Daisy Cottage and my street!  They are so lovely and I will miss them when they are gone.  I hope you like the egret images - such a beautiful bird that I probably should take more pictures of.  And the "funny" looking duck, is a male Muscovy that Papa Goose raised from birth five years ago!  They still hang together and that is a joy to see.  I love witnessing all of the relationships on the lake - they are as diversified as our human ones.

A Wonderful Week ...

It has been a wonderful week, inside and out.  Hot, humid, rainy, but beautiful!  I hope yours has been too.

So Thankful for the Random ....

"at random, without definite aim, purpose, method, or adherence to a prior arrangement; in a haphazard way"


Well that is one way of defining that word, and perhaps what the word really does mean.  And perhaps the word really does describe this blog, and my life, and the images that I share depicting it - and that makes me happy as it was used from day one here when I began sharing.  And perhaps, the "perhaps" isn't really necessary here, now is it?

While I am embracing the random, I do believe however, that I have a definite aim and purpose.  To be in the moment; to be available to the moment; to live the moment.  Whether it be honoring a rose in its mid-life beauty or sitting down in the rain with brand new ducklings.  It is my choice to live these random gifts.  From spending time with Papa Goose as often as I can to spending time with Summer Lynn as often as I can - who, by the way, was SO excited to be getting new glasses on Saturday.  The cygnet that I saw hatch back in April was trying on her wings the other day and I was there ... by choice, yes, but the moment wasn't planned.  Even the painting of the bluebird was by choice but the outcome was not.  The paint spread ... the lines blurred .... the colors changed.  And the choice became the random and the random became the choice.

The Lakelander  is an awesome magazine produced and published in my awesome small town city.  I was asked if they could use some of my images on a story they were doing about our lake and the swans.  I said, of course, and the issue is out now.   

And, I am going to be very honest ....

This publication has meant the most to me out of all.  I love this lake so much.  I love the life here.  I truly feel my camera is an extension of my heart when photographing these magnificent beings.  To have my photographs featured in my city and to represent my love - is such an honor.  I don't know.... this just really means a lot. Maybe one day Summer Lynn and her sister or brother will look at the copies that I have put away for them and see the beauty of the lake that I see. And live it too, most importantly.

Old-Timer

Hello August!  Aren't you a bit early to arrive?  I mean it was just April! How are you here so fast?  I know it is time for you due to the hot and muggy weather but still.  I'm not ready!  These days are flying just like all of those who were older and wiser than us when we were young told us they would.  The same 24 hours simply do not feel the way they used too.  Sigh.  

But we "old-timers" know to embrace the same 24 hours in all the ways that we can, right?  We know the value of the minute.  We know that seeing the sun rise on a new day is not a given.  We know to hold on to what we've got and let go what we should not.

Most of the time.  ;-)

So yes it is so very hot and humid here and you know that this isn't my best season but again how thankful am I to be here to complain about the heat and humidity? Ummmm ..... VERY thankful.  When it gets this hot, I tend to stay inside more - after feeding Papa Goose and walking the lake of course.  I painted a few beach scenes yesterday to cool off in my mind.  Oh and I bought a little sketchbook last week and some pencils too.  So far, I have sketched Maggie and this handsome, beloved old-timer guy ...

Can you believe Marley is 14 years old today!  After my son adopted him from the SPCA, he was diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia and his vet at the time said he would most likely not live past 5 years old.  Well he was wrong.  As Marley aged, his dysplasia seemed to improve and he has lived a very happy and very spoiled life.  Deservingly so!  The sweetest boy ever.  He is now deaf, as of a few months ago, but has quickly learned to rely on the antics of the doxies to know what is going on.  He is also the smartest boy ever too.

Happy Birthday Dear Marley!  We love you!!



Young, old, or in between - life is worth embracing.
