Walking

I hope you had a lovely weekend! Tell me, when you go for a walk where do you go? What do you see? What makes your spirit soar and happy as you make your way?

I had just finished feeding Papa Goose and was returning home when I looked up and saw a bald eagle fly above. Its presence was powerful and so beautiful! Truly amazing to see and I am always so very thankful that I can.

Little Things, Big Things

I just LOVE this time of year! The days, though shorter, are softer and the shadows play in a different way. And it will only get better and better in the days ahead as fall truly settles in and the joy it brings is everywhere to be found. Pumpkins are popping up on the neighborhood porches and you know I love having them on mine! And the leaves that are supposed to be turning are turning and the leaves that are supposed to be falling are falling. All is in sync. And the sky? It has been so beautiful in blue! I've washed all of the throws and quilts and put a quilt on the dollhouse bed in anticipation of cooler weather that I know has to be on its way to stay! I am drinking hot chocolate in the afternoon just because and having fun changing a few things up here and there in Daisy Cottage - like adding vintage floral paintings up on the hall bath ledge. I want to collect more and have them go all the way around. Oh and for some reason, I have been craving spinach a lot lately! Do you ever crave spinach? Hmmm.... hot chocolate and spinach? Good thing this Grandma can't be pregnant! ;-) Speaking of Grandma.... I so love being a grandmother to Summer Lynn. I love that she knows that her "cookies" are kept in a special place in the kitchen and that she asks for them. Makes my heart happy - my heart that she owns a part of and overflows for her.

Little things, big things, old things, new things - it's all a part of fall. And I love them all.

Homekeeping and Out the Door

I've been having so much fun playing house this week with Bentley as my constant assistant while Marley and Maggie pretty much napped the week away. I painted a dining room buffet green last weekend which led me to painting the drawers of my office dresser a pretty blue which led me to getting another dresser already in the perfect chippy patina to use for my wine bar as I passed the former one on to Shawn. I worked on Summer Lynn's play area and will share pics of those later. I cleaned my office and organized my red camera bag that I love in anticipation of spending as much time outside as possible in the weeks ahead - walking, taking pics, and soaking up the gorgeous light! Florida fall is beautiful in its own way and I don't want to miss a second of it. So dear Daisy Cottage..... you have been freshened up and you are all clean - and now I am ready for my fall fling!

My View....

I am a morning person, much preferring the sunrise to the sunset and saying hello to the day instead of goodbye. But last night's moon was beautiful and though I was unable to capture the "blood moon" I was able to capture the moon from the lake while I sat there on a rock in the dark savoring the sweet sounds of the ducks as they quacked quietly to each other before tucking themselves in for the night. I loved seeing the shadow of the palm tree taking ownership of the moon, if only for a minute, as it must be shared with the whole big wide world.

The moon is amazing, isn't it? From any view.

Morning Walks

I love my morning walks, especially in the fall. The light is so pretty and the birds sound so happy - in a different way than they do in the spring, but happy indeed. I especially love walking the alleys. I try to be quiet in my step so as not to spook the animals along the way. I love the alley cats and yes there are many! Some are so friendly and want to follow you home. I love the various structures and garden gates that I see. I try to take note of where to bring Summer Lynn to not only take her picture but for her to explore along with me. I want to get a big red wagon soon, like the kind her mother and uncle had when they were young that I wish we still had. That way I can bring her, a comfy quilt, and a picnic of "yum yums!" It will be so much fun and of course we will end up at the lake, so we will have to bring food for our feathered family too.

I can't wait.

A Place

A place for Summer Lynn to color.

A place to hang a dress to dry in the early morning sun.

A place to serve and store dishes.

A place to be cozy and for Bentley to be on guard.

Everything has its place and is in its place.....

Filters and Feelings

As you know, sometimes I love to play with my pictures and use different filters as I "feel" the image and what I want it to be. That is the frustrated artist within me. :-)

And as you can most likely tell, I tend to feel life deeply. It is hard for me to "filter" the emotions life can bring sometimes, though I do try. These were my thoughts from the other day when I took this selfie:

I took this a few days ago on "one of those days." And today was also "one of those days." So what is "one of those days?" I ask myself. And after some serious soul searching I am able to reply to said self. "One of those days" for me means that I felt. Felt angst. Felt loss. Felt frustration. Felt uncertainty. Felt insecurity. Felt fear. Felt silly. Felt hopelessness. And yet... felt hopeful and grateful. Bottom line... Felt..... So many feelings. Ahhhh and then I scolded said self and said: "You felt life Kim! If you have a heart beat you feel. If you have a soul you feel. So deal!" Okay self I will try. One of those days at a time.

So while I am able to filter some of my images, it is a bit of struggle to filter some of my emotions. ;-) And that is okay. It is how I am made. It is who I am.

And I know you understand.
