These summer days are so hot and so bright and so hot.
Did I say hot? ;-)
By the time I get done walking and spending time at the lake the heat and humidity has left me wilted. Sweat stings my eyes and I am ready to get back to the AC because I am VERY spoiled. I cannot imagine the days here in Florida when there was no air conditioning!
Well, sadly, while many mallard ducklings have survived and are now growing up to be beautiful mallards, we have only one muscovy duckling left on the lake. Poor Papa Goose has tried his VERY best to protect all of his babies from the herons but it has been a losing battle. The herons have just been too aggressive and have outnumbered him. The baby I have shared in this post is the one that is left and IS going to make it, I just know it. For some reason, the herons have left this little one alone. And oh is this baby so tiny! Such a tiny tiny tiny soul and absolutely adorable with a capital A. I love seeing Papa Goose, Mama Muscovy, and Baby walk the lake together. So sweet! And even though it is really hot and I am really ready to cool down, I am trying to embrace the moment or shall I say the moments of summertime on the lake. Each season brings new gifts and yes heartbreaks, but always brings precious moments in time that I never want to miss. Moments of beginnings and endings and everything in between. Moments that always remind me of how lucky I am to be here to see and feel.
Yes, even the sweltering summer heat.

I had no idea you have that many swans on your lake. Add in the other ducks and that is a lot of birds. You are so lucky and they are so lucky to have you looking after them. Here's hoping the little baby makes it.
You are right - it is sweltering here in Florida, but it is my favorite place!

Oh blast those herons...I know...circle of life and all that... The photo of the duckling? Beyond darling. Please God, let him make it. There's more than enough sorrows in this world. Stay cool and thank you for being willing to wilt in order to visit the lake.

This Florida girl cannot imagine no AC days here either. It's a little breezier in So. Florida due to being closer to the sea, but still love that AC.
"Each season brings new gifts..." indeed, my friend.
