A Walk Around the Corner

Though it is really hot here these dog days of summer, I am seeing little hints of a Florida fall to be.  The light is a bit different and some of the leaves are turning gold.  One of my favorite things to do is to walk out the front gate with my camera around my neck and go on a "scavenger hunt" if you will, to see what I can see - usually just going around the corner and back. The alleys are filled with lots of bird and squirrel activity and I feel like I have stepped back in time as I walk quietly and observe nature's scenarios that play out in front of me.  I try not to intrude as I take it all in and though my walks around the corner may be short they are long on day making.

I hope you are able to walk around the corner and back too.

The Call of the Wild

The call of the wild and of the free and all that nature is meant to be is so soulful.  And so many other things that evoke so many emotions.


Every sunrise and sunset is miraculous, don't you think?  And every bloom, and every duck, and every swan, and every goose.


And speaking of the call of the wild ....


Listen to our Papa Goose's early morning call to me as I arrive with food for him and his grown boys.  The most beautiful call of the wild - ever.  At least to me.

P.S. When you see Papa stick his neck out at the "intrusive" bird (woodstork) he is doing this to protect his boys.  He is ALWAYS ALWAYS on guard and protects his family of muscovies... even when they are grown. We can relate, yes?

Random

It always has been the little things for me.  The little every day things in life that seem to ground yet at the same time lift the spirit. I love seeing our puppies all comfy and cozy as they drift in and out of dreamland.  I love grocery store flowers, red wine on the porch, messy recipe boxes, warm pasta, and neighbors' blooms.  I love vintage sheets thrown over rusty outdoor tables. I love my Mom's sugary chocolate cake.  And while definitely not a little thing, I adore the sky.  I could take pictures of this ever changing God brushed canvas all day long.

And I do.  ;-)

Thank you for celebrating Shawn's homecoming with us. You are so very appreciated.  May you wrap yourself in all that lifts your sweet hearts to the moon and back and beyond.  Precious souls you are.

Reunited

Reunited and it feels so good.

In the sweltering Florida heat, two buses brought back one unit of very brave and beyond tired soldiers to their loved ones.  Soldiers who have served, sacrificed, and survived their dedicated mission of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.  Soldiers who made a difference.  Soldiers who were loved and who will be missed in that far away land.  Soldiers who will never be the same.  Soldiers who gave of themselves with every breath they took and with every beat of their heart. Soldiers who left their America with their brand new ambitious boots and returned with ones worn and priceless in their walk of heroism. Soldiers who now own the copyright to their stories:  chapters that will surely include paragraphs of hope, despair, dedication, courage, fear, longing, perseverance, survival - along with a heaven and hell that we will not know of and that only belongs to them. All soon to be released in THEIR time.  Maybe not on Amazon, but released .......

IN THEIR TIME.


So many hugs and tears not captured with my lens but captured in our hearts as we all were finally reunited.  Shawn has many who love him - including YOU - and he is so thankful.  His heart, which is bigger than the universe, knows this.  

Thank you ALL.

He brought Marley's blue bandana with him to Afghanistan.  He promised Marley that he would bring it back to him.  

And he did.  

And Summer Lynn is now in love.  

We are all so emotionally exhausted but so happy.

All Over the Place ...

While I may really be in the same physical place, my mind and heart are all over the place of life if you know what I mean.  So much to see, so much to feel, so much to live, and so much to love.  Seasons' endings and beginnings and special times a'coming.  And our Shawn will be home in a few days.  I will be back after his homecoming.  In the meantime, we soak up the sun and we wait here at Daisy Cottage.  Thank you ALL for your love and support over the past months.  You have really been our angels.

A Smorgasbord ...

Shawn will be home soon.  We are so excited.

In the meantime, Carly is here.  We are playing with the doggies, cooking and eating, sweating in the summer heat, and sipping various thirst quenchers on the porch.  Summer Lynn is teething but is the first to smile. Maggie - who has a wee bit of arthritis and sometimes needs to be carried up the steps - continues to pursue her lizards and Bentley is as mischevious as ever resulting in several time-outs.  Marley does not appear in this smorgasbord of images but he is here - so handsome and waiting in anticipation for his boy to come through the gate. The sun rises and sets and the blooms are beautiful even when fallen and do not get lost or forgotten in the cracks. And as always, the magic of the lake beckons.

Days of sun, clouds, rainbows, flowers and birds.... babies - human and furred, food and daily rituals of little celebrations that make you feel like all is in order and everything is how it should be.... at least for this moment in time anyway.
