I went down to the lake today to take pictures of the wonderful pumpkin patch on the church lawn that borders my heaven on earth.
I went down to the lake today to take pictures of all things fall and orange and ....
Well you know.
I went down to the lake today to take pictures of all things that represent this glorious season!
But....
While taking pictures of the adorable, huggable, pumpkins, I heard a familiar voice.
And it made me smile.
It was Papa Goose's voice from across the street! He was with his family on the lawn and he was watching me take the pictures of the pumpkins.
Well.... that was all I needed to hear! I left the pumpkins and crossed the street to him.
His beak is orange, yes? And very fallish, don't you agree? ;-)
His beak is also unique only to him, as all beaks are! But Papa Goose's beak is the only goose beak on my lake that is spotted with this many distinct black spots.
His beak is the only beak that is this beautiful!
Papa Goose is simply...
Amazing.
His devotion, his valor, his love for his adoptive miscovy duck family has been...
and IS....
So incredibly moving that as I type..... I cry.
Silly me!
But......
Yes, I love Fall.
Yes, I love pumpkins!
You know that I really do.
BUT I REALLY REALLY LOVE PAPA GOOSE TOO!
:-)
Dearest Kim. I miss Daisy Cottage but this blog is also so very lovely. I need to come and visit more often. Your photos are gorgeous and your words so sweet.

I'll break my long silence on this wonderful story I have witnessed many times...
Papa goose adores you, as do all of your "lake friends". I love how your voice softly calling out "Papa...Papa" is always met with a hearty reply as he verbally responds while moving as fast as he can to greet you. Simply beautiful.

Papa goose and mother swan are very selfless, it seems. What's wrong with us humans? Why can't we be as selfless? Like the Nike ad says, we should "Just do It"
Thanks for the images,
Les

Oh Kim, if I lived there, I would probably get nothing
done because I would spend my day at the lake.
Papa is such a cutie and how sweet that he calls to
you....I can see why you would tear up. Thank you for
sharing your wonderful world with all of us. We love
you!
