Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

You're one blessed Mom.

Ricki Jill Treleaven

I can remember when I went to the House of Broel in New Orleans to buy my wedding dress, the second one I tried on was *the one* mom clapped, and my aunt cried like a baby.

My aunt is usually very stoic.....

Dear Husband and I just celebrated our 23rd anniversary last week, and I hope your daughter is as happy as we are!

Ricki Jill Treleaven

Gorgeous picture, by the way....I hope it makes it into the bride's book!!!

Mrs. Magpie

Oh, how lovely, Kim! She's so beautiful, and I can see why you're crying sweet tears.

Much love...

Sheila (hope you are okay from the storms that hit Florida... my neighbor had a tree come down, but it missed our house and took out part of the fence! Scary stuff!)

Barbara F.

Beautiful. Should be on the cover of a magazine! xo,

Daisy Cottage

Sweet Ricki Jill.... it is bittersweet isn't it as we remember the moment when WE chose our own wedding dresses? Shannon tried on MANY but ended up choosing the very first one she tried on.

Sweet serendipity. And I wouldn't want it any other way for her.

Love you,

Crying real tears with you. The post is so beautiful. Your daughter looks so much like you. The wedding day will be a beautiful one for sure.
Always, always, always love your blog even though I don't comment are such a blessing.

She's beautiful. Isn't it so a joy to see them in the gown they know is perfect and they just know it. I made my daughter's veil.

It is so bittersweet when they grow up and move on. But just remember she is bringing you a "son". My daughter's marriage ended in divorce but her ex is still like a son to me. And their marriage gave me my adorable grandchild.

Its okay to cry, it's what we mommas do.

Julie Harward

Been there, done that 8 brings the tears every time, but the grand children to come heal all the tears! ;D

Simply Beautiful! The song is one of my all time favs and I too have three daughters to Marry off someday.I can relate for sure.~Cheers Kim

I wore my mother's wedding dress and felt like a princess! Oh, that joyful occasion happened just 3 weeks shy of 39 years ago.

I'm so happy for y'all!

How lovely Kim. I to remember when my daughters chose their wedding dresses, as with mine. So long ago but yet so near. My girls are now in their 40's been married so long and I, well, hubby and I celebrated our 45th this past December. May your Shannon celebrate her marriage that long with all of God's love HE gives.

This made me cry happy tears. Such a sweet post! My mum and I have a close relationship and we shared these special moments last year when I got married. Congratulations to your beautiful daughter!

Wonderful affirmations, dear Mother. You've done very well... Don't spend too much time weeping for this will become one of the greatest blessings of your life. Gentle hugs...

Pamela Gordon

Oh Kim,I know how you feel. Seeing my beautiful daughter trying on wedding gowns and then the day she brought it home to model (she ended up purchasing it in another province) and the day of her beautiful wedding - cherished memories. Tears of joy and happiness are special for our baby girls on their wedding days. Shannon is beautiful! Wonderful memories to be shared and held in the heart. Blessings, Pamela

I love that song!
And yes I know exactly what you are feeling within your heart right now. This is such a special time. Enjoy each and every moment. Your daughter is lovely and she is going to make a beautiful bride.

I heard about the storms that ripped through your area yesterday. I hope and pray that everyone there is safe and sound.

Melesa Garrison

She looks just like her beautiful mother...I remember the day my oldest daughter tried on her dress. I have a pic of her standing in front of a mirror and a man just walked into the room and his mouth is gaping open and we knew it was the one. Lol (Too funny)It's hard, but exciting at the same time...Congratulations!

Wow! I have tears in my eyes. Seein the love that you have for Shannon and the beauty in her is reflected through you!

Beautiful post Kim!

She is so beautiful and I feel your sadness and happiness as she gets ready for her special day. Take in every moment of this special time in both of your lives. A perfect song to express your life right now. Hugs!

And the other song is Where are you going my little one,
little one. Turn around and you're tiny, turn around and you're grown, turn around and you're a young maid with babes of you're own. From Fiddler on the Roof and I love it dearly. Enjoy and may your new life be as full as it has been. She is beautiful!

Love that song (love me some Stevie Nicks!). Beautiful picture. I lost my mom last September. One special memory that stands out is the day we found my wedding dress - and my mom cried.

She will be a beautiful bride!

My little girl was married a year ago and I about bawled everytime I heard that are not's all good.........I feel ya, KM.

And she is beautiful, just like momma.......

Oh, I KNOW what you mean! I tried not to cry at my daughter's wedding, it was tough! Tears at your heart to see the young'ns all growed up.

Awwwww! The memories I have of wedding dress shopping with my mom are some of my sweetest memories. Your daughter is beautiful!

Donna Scott

Knowing that your Mom thinks you "are ready" is such an important thing for a young woman to know before she says, "I do." I wish I had heard those same words from my own Mother. Way to go, Kim. You are a wonderful Mother and Shannon is enchanting. I wish her all the best and thanks for sharing this special time with us.

Beautiful young woman! They do grow up on us! Love the lyrics! So funny, dear husband and I took our new ski & fishing boat out today, and rode around all afternoon, listening to our Anne Murray and Connie Francis cd's Memories flooded me of our water sking days when we were younger. When sons stood on in front of dad on his skis when little. When they learned to ski and now my grandchildren sking and wake boarding. So many memories and memories still to be made. Love from OK, Cindy

She's Beautiful!
Don't you just LOVE that song? One of my favorites!

Kathy :)

Beautiful post Kim.....

Shannon you're a beauty !!!

Thought of you yesterday heard there was some weather in your neck of the woods...

It came my way today and flooded my downstairs....hubby is away on business, what a mess !!! But I have to keep saying it's only water....

All the best,
Kathy :)

Kim ~ I can't even imagine going through this. Our daughters are about 1 year apart, but she is not ready yet. How special and yes I would be very teary. Such a bittersweet moment when you let your "little girl" go, but remember you are gaining a son ~ LOVE that song. What a beautiful daughter you have ;-)

Absolutely gorgeous Kim! Congratulations to you and your family for love multiplied :)

Well, Kim. I have been in a bubble for awhile counting down the days and preparing for my move the whole time oblivious to your big news! So congratulations! I'm so excited for both of you. May there be decades and decades of happiness stretching ahead of the happy couple.

iola faye

Absolutely Gorgeous. And one of my all time favorite songs, saw Stevie sing it live last year and she still rocks.

Lynda Bee

Beautiful daughter , she is lucky to have such a great mom.
We gave our daughter to a handsome man 4 years ago!
They love each other so much , who could ask for anything more! She will always be our little girl!
We raise them for this moment, they have their wings and
now they fly! Does it just seem like only yesterday she was still a little girl? Enjoy all the wedding planning!
It is so much fun! Have a great week!

What a lovely testament to the love a mother and daughter share.

She is beautiful. :)

What a stunning picture. I am sure she will be a beautiful bride.

Sylvia Frazier

Dearest Kim,
The photo of Shannon is beautiful; it is almost as if we are silently there watching as this moment between the two of you transpires. "A picture is worth a thousand words." She is so beautiful and she is yours. Always will be heart of your heart and your little girl in all of your memories. What a special time for your family as she begins the next chapter in her life. She has had a wonderful example in you; a lovely pattern to follow. Wishing God's precious blessings and love on the bride and groom as they begin their lives together.

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
