Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Linda @bushel and a pickle

Special cups for coffee, a chair and quiet music. Also like looking at blogs with serene pictures like yours. Some more movers just came to take away the last of our furniture. i am typing on the desk for the last time. Our place is echoing!

Thanks for the coffee and rest....Linda

oh, kim your right on about this topic and many others, just my cup of tea, if you will - just this evening i spotted a white picket fence all dressed up with greenary and my wonderful neighbor i've known for over 16 years gave it to me - he knows those things make me happy. so, i rejoice each and everyday with the Lord in my heart and you kim, i reflect on my blessings each and everyday and don't take nothing for granted. i'm so Blessed to have my family and wonderful people who surround me each and everyday and i intern try to do the same with perfect strangers, a hug here and there and guess what? they don't mind - isn't that life is all about. Passion for God and Compassion for people.

love ya, maria - cottage feel-

Hey, no fair...I want to sit on the new green sofa! LOL
Everyday, I take my 3 dogs and we go for a 3-4 mile walk, somewhere different everyday, and as I walk, I say my morning prayers. I talk everything over with him and with 8 kids and spouses and 29 grands, I have much to talk about with him! It always feels so wonderful and when I am done with both, I feel like I can conquer the world! Come say hi ;D

Do you do something every single day of your life that makes you happy? Even if for just a moment of fleeting bliss?
I do. I read your blog. I also read They make me happy, motivated and make me feel creative. They are a calming restful place in my overly busy (my own fault) life.

Do you do a little or a big something every single day that reflects your heart and nurtures your soul?
I don't. But, I should. This made me think. I should make this a priority.

Do you do something every single day that brings you a bit of joy and escape from stress?
Reading your blog. I like to play the piano and make cards and bake and hike, but I rarely make time for those things. I don't know why...

Wow - thanks for the blog post, Kim. I have a lot to think about.....

Have a nice and beautiful Wednesday!

Every day I read something. Reading is my escape.

Every day I thank God that my daughter and granddaughter are healthy. I'm a Pediatric Oncology nurse.

The last couple of weeks have been rough for my family. one of my sisters had open heart surgery and last week my brother's house burned down. They (his wife, 2 sons, daughter in law and granddaughter) are all okay but literally got out with what they were wearing. So it would be easy to feel like we have more problems than anyone else, but that's not me. I give thanks everyday that they are all still here and we can replace belongings. So daily I think about the things that really matter.
I try to enjoy simple things like watering my plants, making a cup of tea, watching a movie.

My other daily things are reading some of my favorite blogs and playing POGO games. I also have a website with my internet friends and I have to check in with them.

your sofa and chair look very comfy.

Kimberly Padilla

The things that make me happiest each day is, of course, seeing my husband and our little furry faces, but other than that your blog makes my happy, as does my Facebook account. I am a full-time student, and I don't have the time go go out and mingle or to make friends, but on Facebook I have hundreds of friends, so it is my little escape, which I do every single day. Blessings!

Julia @ bearcabinminiatures

Well, I answered no to all your questions, which is probably why I am unwell at the moment! So being wednesday, I will start today and my first start is to do a pink post on my blog :0)

Hi Kim! I have been following your blog for over a year now, and I have admired the passion with which you keep this hobby alive.

Today is the first time I attempt to comment on a blog post of yours.

I am just so happy to answer to the three questions: YES! Every single day I can steal a moment to know happiness a little bit more; and discover that I can do something that reflects and nurtures my soul.

Your blogs are not just inspiring, they sometimes make one introspect. They are beautiful!

Thank you.

What a lovely invitation. I love visiting with you! Each morning I rush through feeding the dogs so I can sit down with my first cup of coffee, sipping slowly to start the day. I love sitting on the porch and listening to/watching the birds while I wake up. During the day, I love when my eyes fall on an object that will bring wonderful memories back to my mind. In the evening I love to curl up in my favorite chair with my yarn and crochet hook, enjoying favorite TV shows with my husband. I snuggle with the pets all day long of course. For spiritual nourishment, it comes from reading the Bible, or favorite devotionals. God tends to bring favorite passages to my mind that I think on all day as I go about my business. He's good company. So are you, dear Kim.

Sharon Forward

Why visit your wonderful blog of course! Seriously I have a few favourites and that is my me time. Also everynight I pray and try and think of things to be grateful for I tell you I nearly always go to sleep feeling the luckiest girl in the world (just thinking of my wonderful sons does that to a mum lol )xx

Patti VZ

Oh, Kim, what a lovely visit - and Marley did a great job to welcome us! I have two routines I love: My morning devotions in the sun room (usually before the sun is up) and reading in bed at night. Even if it is only a few pages, I just love that last relax of the day.

I read beautiful blogs like yours, journal, and take afternoon naps. :)

What do I do every single day to bring my life happiness, if only for a moment; nurtures my sould; and helps me escape stress? I visit Daisy Cottage. I'm not patronizing you; it is the truth.

You, Maggie and Marley ALWAYS make me smile.

Have a wonderfully blissful day, Kim! La

For myself...I guess it would be getting lost in my own thoughts. Daydreaming ~ whether it be a moment or two of letting my mind wander while reading inspiring blogs or stopping in the middle of cleaning and imagining what I would like to do with a room. It just energizes me, almost like a catnap. Thank you for asking!

Something I do every single day is hug my kids and tell them how much I love them. They never go a day without hearing those words and I think it's so important. In that moment I'm thinking of nothing else but making them know they are loved.

Beautiful pictures as usual Kim! I love my visits to your cottage.

Pray and coffee....not necessarily in that order....and spend way too much time on the computer. I would never say reading my favorite blogs is a waste of time....but I do have stuff to do!

Every day I am thankful to have a cup of coffee with my hubby. Every day I visit your blog and it nurtures my creative side and impires me. I try every single day to be kind and loving to everyone I meet. Every day I come home from work and look around my kitchen (which you inspired) and enjoy the feeling I get when I make dinner or do the dishes. YOU Kim have left an imprint on my soul to try and do a little something to make life wonderful for myself and my family and I THANK YOU for that.
And every single day I hug my Mindy and my Scooter and just think how lucky I am to be ALIVE.
These things are my destressers.

My morning coffee with prayer time. Then I try to see what lovely post you have written for the day. You really touch a lot of souls with your beautiful pics and heartfelt posts. Thanks for brighting my day!!

Terri D

Fresh cup of coffee..... curled up in the comfy corner of the sofa with just a lamp on .. and my special time in the Word with the Lord.... that first walk of the day with Gracy girl ... glancing at the family photos close by me as I read.... how blessed I am!!! And as you must know.... a visit to Daisy Cottage ALWAYS makes me smile!!!!! I so enjoyed my visit today with you Kim and Marly and Maggie .... Blessings, Terri

Yes, Yes and Yes. EVERY SINGLE DAY..... I hug my husband and tell him I love him. I hug and kiss my three fur faces (cats). I speak with my big sister. I e-mail my Mom & Dad. I read. I look out my front window and feel very blessed that I can do all of the above. PS Kim, your blog is wonderful. I have had the pleasure of meeting you and think you are exactly like your blog.......colorful, artsy, fun-loving and have a good soul.

Barbara F

I always say morning prayers and always find time to snuggle with my "feathered" babies......and make a nice cup of coffee and read your blog! In the evening I enjoy (perhaps a little too much) :-) being a couch potato and my "guilty" pleasure is those darn reality shows!! Also taking a Hershey kiss (or three) and letting them just melt in my mouth! Great post as usual Kim. xoxox

Carrie Merth

I read blog and read forums (and chat with friends) I spend time each day knitting gifts for those I love. I give me a chance to stop doing housework and be creative.

I do my lung treatments as a gift of life to myself.

Hello dear Kim,
Yes, I probably do more than one thing every day just to make me happy. I cruise the internet and check out the blogs that stand out to me. I also go for a walk along my beautiful river and I enjoy my tea and coffee every day, just for me. I also dig into God's word and renew my soul when I talk to God and give Him a chance to talk to me. Those few things bring me a great deal of joy every day. Today I am sad because a cousin of mine was in a horrific car accident and passed away yesterday. He was just a few years older than I am, so I have been thinking about him and praying for his mom and wife and daughter.
You always make my day brighter! I love you and your blog, thanks for being YOU!
Hugs, Cindy

Good Morning Kim!

I start my day by visiting you. :) The rest of the day I tuck in moments with a good book whenever I can spare an opportunity. Sometimes that means I bump in to things because I have been known to bury my nose in a book and walk at the same time! At 3pm most days I start a pot of my favorite coffee and it carries me through the afternoon. There's nothing better than the smell of a yummy blend brewing, and since I work from home it's a great pick-me-up.

I tell my family every day how much I love them. My Mom lives with me and hubby and Im so blessed to have such a wonderful Mom.

There are days when life seems to be overwhelming, I try to look on the bright side. I will look at the pics I have my grand kids and think oh what true joys they are.

I love reading your blog while drinking my morning coffee.
You have such a lovely home and your fur babies are so precious.

I am not going to write a long paragraph because what makes me smile , EVERY MORNING ,is a visit to your house and my smile can be put in one sentence.

Good morning Kim!!!
I am new to this blogging thing but I am excited to get started to "meet" these happy and creative women here in Blog Land. I enjoy your blog every day and think it is awesome that women have this wonderful revenue to express themselves.
I am thankful every day for the health of my children and grandsons and I just celebrated a birthday last Saturday so I am also thankful that I am here to celebrate.
To de-stress from my day I love to Zumba and also I enjoy scrapbooking or just looking through decorating magazines or books.
Thank you Kim and enjoy your day!!!

My flower blooms are a little better now that the summer heat has receeded a bit.
As for the special things I do, Coffee with my daughter almost every morning. She comes over and we do our make-up and hair and get ready for work. This morning she told me how much it means to her and I put her in a good mood. (WOW
What a good feeling) I read your blog, think of how much it means to me and how it puts me in a good mood. You see, Kim, you bless so many. May you have a wonderful day.

Kim~ Reading God's Word and visiting with you each morning. What a delightful way to begin the day!

My Blessed Serendipity Life

To be thankful, to love, to be happy. These are a few of God's most precious gifts and I choose to accept these gifts with open arms.

Hi Kim,
I read your blog every day but it's been forever since we've talked! If you have some, could I please get a splash of cream in my coffee? I just pulled a pan of jumbo blueberry muffins out of the oven so as soon as they're cool enough to handle I'll head on over with a couple so we can chat. Gracious, this chair is so comfy!

Let's see.....everyday I create, something. I love to decorate and tweak my little country cottage so the thing I create usually is for my nest. I sew, quilt, paint, and repurpose just about anything and everything!
I love my family and my pets and my garden. Things people and things feed my soul and enrich my existance, as do you!

I'm so glad we had this little visit. Next time you can come to my little cottage and we'll visit out by the fountain and watch the antics of the hummingbirds.

Sharon Duffey

I "come over" to visit daisy cottage, enjoy Marly and Maggie, and become inspired by your daily insights! This is my treat, also I love to look at magazines, the most important thing I do for to spend time in prayer and reading the Bible to see what the Lord has to teach me for the day :) You have totally taught me to see the beauty in all things, you have opened up a whole new world for me! Thank you Kim, Maggie, Marley, and Mr.Daisycottage!!!!!!

What a great question, Kim.

I think it is wise to do something for yourself so you can be a happy person, then you will want to do something nice for others. I believe that the Lord is my strength and that is all I need to know to get through each day.
The creative side of me has to do something "fun" to be a happy Mom, wife, & friend each day.
I love to sew, paint furniture, write, watch a movie, bake for my family and others, read, garden, and exercise! God has given me talents I don't want to waste because each day is a gift! And one of the gifts I am happy to receive is reading your blog!

Kim, I always have a large cup of coffee and read my devotionals. It seems to set the tone for my day. If I take the time to read them God always alows me enough time to do what I need to do.
Have a sweet day.

Dear Kim,

i foster senior and special needs dogs and i take about 20 or 30 minutes a day for each special little one. i either lay in a dog bed with them or on the floor with them and cuddle and scratch them. the happiness it gives them comes back to me tenfold. its so relaxing and they just love it. some of them have not had human companionship for who knows who long and it shows them that not all people are bad.

Oh Kim, I TRY to do something that makes me feel good every day, but don't always succeed. But here are 3 things: visiting you every day; taking a walk with Husky and Lady; and hearing about my family's day at the dinner table. Thanks for today's chat.

veronica mackinnon

I do some things everyday that make me happy. Every morning i read my devotions with a cup of coffee; i love coffee also.I look forward to seeing my beagle and my beautiful cat everyday when i get up. One of my precious cats dissapeared over a wk ago. Hew was about 11 yrs old. I am just sick over it. I also look forward to seeing my grandaughter[ 10 yrs]almost every day. She gets off the bus here at my house. I read your blog most everyday. I enjoy it so much. I feel like i know you. Veronica

Thanks for the reminder.

Lynn Paterson

Watering my flowers on the deck and having a cup of tea are 2 things I do everyday that I love. Both remind me of my Mother and how much she appreciated her home and garden. I guess I take after her. Nothing like a hot cup of tea and some shortbread cookies to enjoy it with!

Yes - hugging my son gives me the utmost joy every single day. And then there are your posts, of course, and chocolate, and a good book - so yes I do things that give me joy.

Melesa Garrison

I wake up to a cup of coffee, I pray everyday and trying to focus on others in my prayers other than just myself. I have a standing lunch date with my hubby just about everyday and we have good conversation;) I like to walk with Jovi and Max in the evenings (furry friends) Probably spend too much time on the computer, but really enjoy fb friends and love visiting the cottage everyday. I end my evenings with hopping on my big fluffy bed and rubbing lavendar lotion on my feet...Yum!

After being enthusiastically greeted GOOD DAY by my two precious dachies, I open my bedroom blind and see my roses and the bird bath with the statue of the little boy and his dachshund. And whether the wind and rain have scattered the rose petals, or the blooms hang a bit from the rain, I love seeing them. Such simple beauty in a world that isn't always so. All the little BLISS things add up; the first cup of coffee while the dogs have their breakfast, an email from a friend, visiting your blog, how the morning air smells, I could go on and on. There is sooo much to smile about. Sending smiles and hugs to you and yours!

Loved this post, Kim! Would love to sit down and drink coffee and yak with you! Well ... I TRY to do something each day that I like in particular. Sometimes I get a little stubborn and neglect "needed chores," but it does help my sanity and well-being to "escape" for awhile. Plus, there's a lot of things that speak for my time during the week, and sometimes I need to just get away from that for awhile, too. I like blog-reading, book reading, music, knitting, crocheting, quilting, maybe baking something fun. If I was able, I'd sure do something with horses, but that just doesn't make itself available right now. Maybe someday!

Donna Rae Barrow

A llllooooonnnnngggggg hot bath every morning and a little time outside each day. These two things restore me to my smiling self!

Terri Christian

why check your blog of course, that's what I do every single day......

yester day i turned a year older and decided to do the very thing that you are talking about, so today i visited a friend that i hadn't seen in awhile love always feeds your soul

Trish Rowley

Hi Kim, I would have to say the things that I do everyday is pray, talk to God, and I always ask him to show me the need or someone that needs help. He never fails that is very nourishing to my soul and I am always amazed at what God will show you if you ask. have a great day Trish xox ;)

The Lady of the House

I talk to my sisters and mama just about everyday. They make me SO happy! I <3 them.

Patty O'Malley

I have been under a lot of stress lately with health issues and work issues, so I've made it a point to take time to read each night. I don't miss a day of checking the latest at Daisy Cottage! I also have taken up a hobby of scrapbooking and cardmaking. While I'm fairly new at it, it provides a great escape.

Waking up each morning with my white knight in shining armor laying beside me! As I'm always telling him, you're my bestest friend, and he says uh, oh, what do you want now. We've been married 33 years, the time has went so fast! We have our cup of coffee on the back porch and usually watch the sun rising through the back pasture of trees. We are both readers and love to read the same books. My next best friend would be my mom, she is happy all the time, very positive person. Think about my grown sons and my grandchildren with a smile on my face. Talking to my red birds each day at their feeder by the porch and looking so forward to reading your blog each day, looking at your pictures and the way you express your thoughts are such a blessing to all of us. Love, Cindy Okla

Barbara Anne

Late getting here after a busy day, but it started in the usual way that I love -
I have some orange juice while sitting in the just-right-for-me thrift store chair, then have a bit of cereal, a cup of coffee and a mini-bagel with homemade pear honey on it (just divine flavor from store bought pears and an old recipe). I can look our our front picture window, across my large front yard at the friendly trees, the gardenia bushes, and my porch with Cracker Barrel rocking chairs and one of their double rockers!

What I see inside is furniture I inherited from my parents and grandparents, and a thread cabinet table made from my great-grandfather's general store. I am connected still to people I love who are gone now. Pictures of my family are on the marble-top table beside me. These connections feed my soul.

Then I come downstairs to my sewing studio where my computer is and come visit with you! I appreciate your cheery outlook and happy home.

Thank you!

Kitchen Witch

I love to enjoy my morning cup o 'joe, read thru blogs, squeeze my baby tight, cuddle with my doggy and husband, and SING MY HEART OUT to whatever songs I'm in the mood for whether in my car on the road or dancing around the living room with the baby to songs on the computer : )

The answer is simple. By your questions I thought you already knew what I did every day. While I do a hundred DIFFERENT things every day, the one things I do consistently is read your blog. Got another question?

Such a sweet baby!

good evening Kim, what great questions to ponder and think over. Something that i am able to do every day that makes me happy is contacting my sons. I do this through phone calls, email, or texting. They are such a wonderufl part of my life. By praying for others i nurture my soul. I make handmade cards and this is the way i relieve stress in my life. Some of the cards are used by a friend in her church ministry. Some others are used as birthday cards to hospice patients. The card making relieves stress for me, but brings happiness to others. What greater way to live your life, by bringing joy to people. I think YOU do that through your blog. thank you dear.

Debbie from Texas

Kim, I start my day with a hot cup of tea and with a cat in my lap. I try to read my Bble and pray for everyone a few minutes then I am off and running. I love the mornings because the rest of the day is so busy. Family, friends, errands, shopping (which is not the same as errands! My special quite time is watching something on Tv that I taped when no one is around. I also like to go to the local antique mall, turn off my cell phone, and just enjoy! I always find some small treasure to bring home! Wish we had a Goodwill Store like you do there.......I have a feeling today is going to be a special day!:)

Donna, The Decorated House

Hello Sweet Kim~

I finally meandered on by, and might still be a bit dirty from all the digging and planting around here. I was careful not to track any dirt in though.

And I was reading backwards and stopped right here, because... well you know who was looking so dapper.

It was worth the trip just see my friend Marley. I love that pup! and Maggie and YOU, too of course.

Lots of Hugs, Donna

A Romantic Porch

Every single day THE FIRST thing I do is tell my husband I love him and give him a kiss...yes every single day it sets my day to a great start. And I ALWAYS always count my blessings even when the going is tough and it's been tough for us and so so many. But still there are ALWAYS blessings. Thank you Kim for being one of my blessings. xo rachel

Good morning KIM! and happy Monday from beautiful Tennessee!

she gives away love...
with words being said!
ok, I'm no Tennyson, but it's a start! have a great day and love to Maggie and Marley.

Dear Kim,
Happy 4 Year Blog-iversary! I feel so blessed to have a bit of time to relax with you at Daisy Cottage since I found it a few months ago. Enjoy your time away. I'm looking forward to hearing all about it on your return.

Greetings from Roswell New Mexico, the alien capital of the world.....the red and yellow are so cheerful...brightens up a "gray day".......I've spent the
morning making fancy cream colored satin pumpkins with lots of "bling" on the leaves......will give them to some
of the senior ladies at our church.........I enjoy your blog so much...........

We miss you when you're away. I'm mostly a lurker but recently I had occasion to buy for a small cottage in Florida (from my Mom). I panicked. Sure, I love all white, I love romantic and ruffles and bows. No, I want a home like Daisy Cottage. Bright and cheerful. What do I do first?

I had to come home to Mississippi and wasn't able to shop so my sister is doing the "thrift shop" thing to find furniture and Stuff. I tell myself I can change it whenever I'm able to visit. I really wish I had had the guts (yeah, guts) to buy what I liked. Why do I worry what others think? IT'S MY HOUSE AND I CAN DO WHAT I WANT. (Reminds me of that commercial, it's my money....) anyway I didn't do it.

I've been around a looong time. I'll be 69 years old soon. Isn't a shame that I still didn't have the gumption to do it myself. My sister will do a great job. I've loved every home she's created. Please don't think I'm down all the time about it. I know I'll love it when I get back down. Smiling now and remembering that you are still shopping for your home. I can do that!

Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
