A Beautiful Hour

I went down to my lake for an hour yesterday.

And I sat on my favorite yellow bench.

It was VERY hot.  Hot. Hot. Hot. And it was beautiful.  I enjoyed spending time with my feathered friends.  And yes, I even enjoyed the little bit of sweat trickling down my very flushed face.

Mr. and Mrs. Swan were there.  And the ducks and a gorgeous crow who kept a very careful eye on me.  He was truly as sweet as can be.

Now I know it won't be hard for you to guess which one of these cuties won my heart ....

You go girl!   ;-)

Oh and meet Mr. Handsome ...  do we not LOVE his beak?

And this is my very wise friend ...  I believe I've introduced him to you before...

 
 

He knows all of my secrets.   ;-)

Yes, a beautiful hour.  Indeed.

Summer Salad

We have the BEST neighbors.  We have the best neighbors on our left.  We have the best neighbors on our right.  We have the best neighbors behind us.  And we have the best neighbors across the street.  We are SO blessed.

Our neighbors to the right, Rich & Susan, brought dinner over for us last night.  Dinner included a fresh loaf of bread, divine chocolate cake for dessert, and a gorgeous and even more delicious summer salad.  So so so so good.  And so very appreciated.

Sweet Susan even shared her salad mix with us:

Susan's Summer Salad

 

2 large Gala apples, thinly sliced

2 T fresh lemon juice

1 large bag of spinach

3 cups grilled chicken (seasoned with S&P and olive oil)

1 red onion

Smoked Gouda Cheese

1 cup celery thinly sliced

1 cup cranberries

1 cup roasted pecans

Honey Mustard Dressing

 

Toss apple slices with lemon juice.  Layer apples, chicken, and the remaining ingredients in a large bowl. Toss with honey mustard dressing just before serving.

 

 

Thank you so much Susan!  Your salad was just what the doctor ordered! Yummy!

Oh. My. Gosh.

Thank you SO much for sharing your childhood summer memories with me.

YOU brought back many more happy recollections to my heart ...  thank you for that.  How could I forget Barbies?  And Trixie Belden?  Oh how I wanted to escape with Trixie and Honey and solve a mystery with them!  And yes my roller skates had a key!  I forgot about that too.  You see - YOU make this little blog what it is.  You.  Me.  Kindred spirits - WE.

So as I clean up around here today and dust the dishes ...

I will let my mind dally a bit more and remember those sweet girlhood summer days with a smile but I will also remember that TODAY is a memory in the making summer day too. 

Even if it is a day spent dusting.

Do You Remember?

It's summer. 

Remember what that used to mean?  You and I would play outside from sunrise to sunset - usually barefoot and donning messy ponytails and summer shorts or a sleeveless cotton dress?  Remember?  We would roller skate and hopscotch and tell secrets to our BFF's? We would freckle and skin our knees and run home for a bandaid and then back to each other's houses again.  We would practice our cartwheels and rollovers in the thick summer grass. We would hula hoop and jump rope while we recited our beloved rhymes.   We would ride our bikes with their bells and banana seats and baskets wherever we wanted with no hands holding the bars and we would climb trees.  Remember?  We would make up silly songs and yes we would sometimes burp.  ;-)  We would let one leg dangle from the branch and let it swing back and forth.  We would eat cheese doodles and slurp down popsicles. We would chew pink bubble gum and blow big obnoxious bubbles and let them pop.  We would talk about the cute boy next door and giggle so uncontrollably and pinky swear and cross our hearts and hope to die. 

Do you remember?

Let's do it again.

Tuna Fish or Flowers?

Well let's see.  I could share a photo of my tuna fish sandwich that I had on fresh whole wheat bread yesterday with you.  Or I could share the big pile of laundry that was thrown all over on my bed.  Or I could share the messy stack of bills that were piled on my desk.

But I think I'll share a few pretty garden flowers with you instead.  Tuesdays call for flowers don't you think?   Although tuna fish DOES indeed rock.

Again Miss Maggie wasn't interested in a photo op.  She was too busy concentrating on a baby lizard.  You will be happy to know that she wasn't able to catch this one either.  But God Bless her.... she still keeps on trying every single day!

I did manage to capture our handsome Marley as he gazed at a squirrel.  He is SO not interested in catching things.  He's our observer.

Just another day in our little front garden ...  thank you for stopping and smelling the Tuesday flowers with Mags, Marley, and me.  We'll have tuna fish sandwiches together another time. You bring the chips.   ;-)
