Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Good Morning, Kim,
What a beautiful encouragement. I was away last week after my daughter's wedding so I've been catching up on your blog. It's like coming home! I really did think about you and the gifts you share with us. It captures the spirit of simplicity, something I long for. You, I believe, have the gift of hospitality, and you use it well. Thanks. Have a most wonderful day yourself.

Des

I love, love, love your kitchen! It is so bright and cheery.....you can't help but feel uplifted :o)Have a great day!!!

Kim,
Your kitchen is adorable! I love your "k" on the cabinets. I have a red "R". We all loved Mary's "M" didn't we???

Karen Davis

I LOVE that chair... I'd like to use it for a maternity photo session that I have this week!

Jean

Thanks for reminding us to stop and smell the roses!

Nicki

Kim,
Love the sunshine photo. I don't get to see or enjoy much of the sun since I work indoors all day, but I come to your blog for some added "sunshine" to my day. Oh to dream of some day...

Sandi ~ A Cottage Muse

The sun is shining beautifully here today too!! Enjoy all it shines upon!

Linda Evans

that green and yellow pillow looks like the ones my mom use to make, love it....smiles, Linda

Heidi - Heart and Home

Hi Kim,
What an inviting spot, and so nice to see the sun streaming through the windows in your sweet kitchen. I've always dreamed of having black and white tiles like yours -somewhere, but not sure where yet! Seeing this photo just reminded me!
I love color too, and although I use a lot of white, I have color, color, color everywhere. My kitchen is painted tangerine orange! An unusual choice for sure, but I love it! Drop by and have a look sometime!
Have a wonderful, sunny day.
XO

Oh, whew! I just went to this gorgeous all white perfectly perfect "farmhouse" blog. I started feeling reeeaally insecure again, sitting here in my bright house with lots of yellows and reds.... and then I hopped to your blog.
That was a close call-- I felt like I should go out and buy lots of white paint there for a second ;) Wishing you a very happy and colorful day too, sweet Miss Kim.

Laura

Good morning Kim!! I just love your little post like this. It is a rainy day here in the PNW but seeing your wonderful pictures and posts brings sunshine here :) Have a great day Sweetie!!

Susan Freeman

It's sunny here too, for now. I think it might rain later, so I'll enjoy your sunshine if it does!

Love,
Susan and Bentley

Danielle

Kim, drink it in (the sunshine of course). Sun is something I don't take for granted. I live in the pacific NW.

Lynn Paterson

A very wonderful "Good Morning" to you too! I spotted your rooster collection on top of your kitchen cabinets.....they are an awesome looking group! It's sunny here in Atlanta too and in the 90's. But everything is growing so well because of our late day sun showers. Till tomorrow!

Jane

We have had 6 straight days of gloomy weather here in Chicago. So it is always nice to have a peek at your colorful home!

Kimberly Padilla

Good afternoon to you! I missed morning. Thank you for the beautiful photo! Have a wonderful day! Blessings.

Cindy

I love it when the sun shines in the house in the morning hours. Here we have had sunny mornings, but it is very hot and humid...which is bringing very bad evening storms for several days now and many places have flash flooding. Hope it stops soon and we have just the sunshine.
~Cindy~

Margo

You are right about soaking it in and letting your spirits soar. I just got back from a walk and found it restorative to my soul to hear the crickets in the tall grasses, the quail lookout warning of my approach, see the general goodwill that robins seem to impart, and the ring of clouds around the mountain. All very healing.

Maura @ Lilac Lane Cottage

I couldn't agree more Kim...we've seen so much rain and cloudy days lately that I feel the need for some cloudless skies and dry heat. How could you ever get up even on a dull day in your home and not feel cheery! Have a wonderful day....Maura :)

Nancy Hutson Maisenbach

Kim,
How nice is that! Love the rooster and hen family on your kitchen cabinets. Everything changes with the amount of sun in a room. The touches of orange sherbet in this room add so much. Great look.
Happy Tuesday to all!!
Nancy M. **

Gentrie

Thanks for the photo of sunshine.....we don't seem to get that much here these past few weeks. I wish it would come back!

Carol Adams

Kim...I am continually amazed at how you are able to put things together in your darling home and have them look so so wonderful. You truly have a gift, my dear!
The sunshine is most appreciated as it is rainy rainy rainy here in Indiana!
Hugs and have a wonderful day, dear!!!

Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions

It is a gloriou day here today! The weather is just perfect and the only thing that would make it even better is me being off from the day job {which, unfortunately, I'm not}. : )

Connie

Kim, Love your new chair. It looks so warm and cozy just off the kitchen.

Kim, could you please draw a rough floor plan of your house so I can visualize the arrangement? I know the other girls would probably like it too! It doesn't have to be professional looking - just a rough copy to let us see the layout of your neat house. The second story too if you wouldn't mind.

Hugs,
Connie

Pauline

There's nothing quite as lovely as early morning sunshine - or starting my day with a peek at your pretty blog - may your day be filled with sunshine, too! :-)

Hi Kim thanks for the sunny wishes! I wanted to share a cute story with you. About a week ago I went to Lowe's with my hubby and daughter. I said heck no I can go to her blog! My daughter called me a stalker!! LOL I said not in blogland we are all friends!! Isn't it great to have some where to go and connect with other women!! XOXO Fran.

Sunny mornings are the best--I can hear the doves cooing and my hens chirring right now!

Good Morning. So thankful for another sunny day in the Palouse Country of eastern Washington. We have the most beautiful rolling hills of green wheat that has just headed out. It is my favorite time of year. Love your colorful kitchen. You have motivated me to add more color to our home and makes me feel so good even on gloomy days.

Annabelle

Sun? What is sun? It's been raining here for the past 10 days!! So, thank you for bringing sunshine in many ways!

Rhonda

I'm just glad to be in under the AC finally. Rain yesterday, plus sun today equals SAPPING humidity! We got all our chores and running around done, so now it's relaxing time for a bit.

I love that crocheted lampshade! :)

Lisa Conley

You have inspired me so much that I went to the Library today and checked out so many books that I almost could not carry them.... they were on decorating ... cottages, gardens... etc. Your website if the first thing I check in the mornings and again in the evenings. Thanks for the inspiration....

~ Lisa from Indiana ~

Morning to you...we must be having the same kind of day...blue sky, giant puffy clouds, feeling the warmth trough my shirt...ahhh...Heaven! (Especially since 2 days ago we had the furnace on for 4 days!) :D

Jolie Anne

Kim,

I see yellow yarn and needles. Do you knit? I have always wanted to knit and I keep saying I am going to
take lessons at a local store. But I have not
taken that step, yet. I just want to make my own afgan or coverlet-nothing fussy or fancy. In fact, I like a rustic look for hand knit items.
Love that corner chair and all that surrounds it. The plates are a nice wall decoration. You always have a new angle to show us, of your wonderful home and garden.
Thanks, JolieAnne

Fay Marie Torzsok

Hi Kim

Got home from work about an hour ago, unpacked my dishwasher and came to visit you. We had a lot of sunshine here in Ontario today as well but tomorrow they are forecasting rain all day.
Glad to see you had a lovely sunny day as well. What are you planning to knit what that beautiful yellow yarn? Love your lampshade

Have a good night

Fay Marie

Pom Pom

Sweet! I like that squishy chair! Black and white is good, isn't it? Just today I looked at some black and white birdie wallpaper. So happy.

Anne

I love your little seating corner there. It looks so inviting. I also like that lamp shade. How cool is that?!

LaVoice

Your post would put sunshine in home. I liked it as it was short and to the point.

Jo

Kim, Another day with sunshine, for you are the sunshine that brightens our days. You are such an inspiration to all of us. Hope you have had a blessed day. Kiss the pups for me.

Cindy

Love your cozy corner, beautiful chair and wow, adore the lampshade! Cindy in Okla.

Re

Thank you for that bit of sunshine. It was dark when I went to work and getting dark when I came out (because it stormed, too). So I needed a spot of sunshine.

Karen

Kim, you inspire me every time I come over here! I've been tossing and turning, trying to figure out a plan for our bedroom, and the other day I came over to look through your photos. Your heart is in EVERYTHING you do. I decided to throw caution to the wind and just start hanging up the pictures and things that I like. It's so liberating! And I love the way everything is coming together. It doesn't look like a magazine, it looks like MY house:) You're a gem.

Pamela

I adore the lamp shade in this pic. I know it's macrame but I'm thinking I could do something very similar with crochet. I'm off to the GW to find a lampshade frame that will support my crochet efforts. If I'm successful I'll send you a pic. Thank you ever so much for posting all your decor ideas, you'll never know how much you've inspired me to be ME! Love you bunches of much!

Treva Ann

I found it! Now to figure it out. :) As you can surely see, I'm not the most computer friendly visitor you have. I do enjoy stopping in and seeing the lovely imagery and positive posts you share. Fingers crossed this goes through. Have a wonderful day.

It it such a comfort to read your blog daily and see the beautiful pictures. You have captured a sense of the "old-fashioned" that we are so missing in our culture today. Thanks for spreading joy! :)

Hello Kim and Happy Birthday to you!! I'm excited because this is my first time to actually comment on your blog. I adore your cottage and your wonderful outlook on life. Like a lot of others your blog is so uplifting and inspiring. Your photography is also so beautiful! I have noticed you have a few roosters in your kitchen. Over the past few years I've collected roosters also. My husband kids me about it, but thats ok. Well just wanted to say hi and that you are so special to a lot of people. Will miss your blog while your gone.....God bless you!!

Pam

Happy Birthday Kim! Romantic Country is one of my favorite magazines. Too expensive so I often find myself at the magazine rack in the stores perusing the latest issue. I enjoyed your birthday blog on June 21, 2010 and I was immediatlely drawn to the "apron!" As a child I watched my apron-clad Nana make fudge, roll out pie crusts and frost birthday cakes. Everything was made from scratch! When Nana had her apron on..."all was right with the world!" Thank you for stirring up memories of a simple, pure and honest time. P.S. Were those blooms on the June 18, 2010 blog Crepe Myrtle? My Nana also had Crepe Myrtle blooming in her yard. Magical times in my memory!!!

Annie

I want to hug you! You have such a happy & wonderful home! It's BEYOND fabulous my dear! So in love with the funky finds and the granny chic you are working with!

shay

love your site--Happy Birthday

You seem so happy, cheerful all the time. I imagine the vivid colors around you help with this. I like your decorative combinations, even the red boots. Hope you enjoyed your birthday and look forward to more from you.

I just discovered your site and absolutely LOVE it! I've copied a link to my daughter who is moving into her apartment next week and know it will offer inspiration. I also love the music...what a nice treat! Thank you.

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
