Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

I love the crepe myrtles.
My dad went to heaven when he was 46. Not a father's day that I don't miss him.

Hi Kim,

Those pink flowers are gorgeous! Hold on to your memories of your daddy. Hopefully that will help you get through the day. I will be seeing mine this weekend. We are traveling to Illinois. He has dementia so it's hard to see him that way but don't know how many Fathers Day I will have him so don't want to miss one.

700 posts?? Wow, that's a lot of blogging.

Congratulations on your 700th post! WOW!! After losing my Mom three years ago, I find Mother's Day tough. You just so envy people that have a parent to spend those special days with, and give a hug to. Your blooms are beautiful. Have a wonderful weekend spent with those you love. Sherri : )

Love the flowers....my favorite color too! Wish I had something like that in my yard but I think our winters are too cold up here.

700....wow....think of all the enjoyment you have provided all of us:-)

Pom Pom

Yahoo! 700th post! 700 offerings of happy, sweet hospitality. Thank you.

Barbara Anne

Celebrating you and the 700 positive, happy, colorful, encouraging posts you've sent out!!!! They are certainly bound to have had a good impact on worldwide karma!

My Dad has been gone 27 years and my mother has been gone almost 6 years. There is never ever a right time to lose a parent or an age you arrive at when it's easier. My AMIL lost her 96 year old mother less than 2 years ago when she herself was 78 and it was so hard.

Our crepe myrtles are beginning to bloom, too, and I love the watermelon color they have!

Hugs!

Sharon Forward

Hello Kim, Beautiful pictures as always. I so wish I could give my Dad a hug I found happiness in the UK but my Dad is in Australia so a little difficult lol anyway I just hope he stays with us long enough for me to see him again. To you and all those who have lost their Dads my best wishes and I am sure they are still with you all in spirit. Have a great week endx

Chandra

<3 Of all the blogs in the WORLD, I think that YOURS makes me the happiest and the one that encourages me to be free to be ME! I <3 you, Kim!

Jenny in Alabama

You just keep posting and we'll be right here with you. My crepe myrtles are in full bloom here and are beautiful. I have 32 on my property. This week-end will be sad for me. I've lost daddy also. And miss him everyday. But I hold him and memories in my heart. Those can never be taken away. Waiting to hear from you soon. KEEP POSTING!!!

My dad died when I was 11... Father's Day was rough for quite a few years. Have a new dad now... love him to pieces. Get to see him and my mom in a few weeks. Yeah!!

Kim, Congratulations on your 700th post! I have enjoyed every single one of them, and I anxiously anticipate a new one every day. I am sorry about your father. I lost mine March 29 of this year. I wish I could hug mine, as well. It will be a lonely Father's Day for a lot of people. Enjoy your weekend; however, and enjoy your beautiful flowers and doggies.

Judith

OMgracious 700 wonderful blogs. Since I have only followed you for a year, I am sure I have missed out on many beautiful things.
I miss my dad too. His mother died when he was very young. She had planted yellow roses behind their farmhouse that eventually turned wild,so this time of year he so enjoyed the wild roses that bloom alongside the country roads in the Palouse. They are in full bloom now and I am enjoying many pleasant memories of my great dad.

Wishing all of you a wonderful weekend with your dad or memories of one who has passed. Hugs, Judy

Pauline

Happy 700th! That is quite an accomplishment - thanks for inviting us to come along for the ride!

Beautiful pics, Kim - such pretty blooms! One thing this little "bloom" has done to make my home uniquely "me" is to get brightly colored storage containers - in all my favorite colors - and put them out where I can use, see and enjoy them all the time. Do I care what others think? Nope, thankfully! ;-)

And I so wish I could hug my Daddy, too - but he is in Heaven. Sigh . . . Well, have yourself a wonderful weekend, dear!

sweet cottage dreams

I'm a bit sad to read that a lot of your friends will have to miss their father on Father's Day. For all my life I had to miss my biological father because he left me when I was a babygirl. But I'm very thankfull that my mother married the man that IS my father for a very long time now. I got a second chance and I'm very greatfull for that!Love,Nina.

Debbie from Texas

Happy 700th post! You make us fans all so happy!
Took grandson to Hastings yesterday to get a game. While he was looking, grabbed the 2010 Flea Market Syle Magazine to buy, sat looking at it, page 29 there you are! I said out loud, a little too loud, Daisy Cottage!! Several people looked at me funny, since I was setting at a table by myself. You are famous, you know! Happy weekend to you too. Cindy - Okla.

Marfa (Crafting Marfa)

Hi Kim! I have been reading your blog for a long, long time now. I don't post often...don't know why really. But, like many other readers, reading your blog is like a hug from a friend, you can never have too many. The flowers on your pictures for this post brought back memories for me. We used to have an older couple as next door neighbors for years. They were like grandparents to me, since my own grandparents passed away when I was still a child. Anyway, the wife gave us a cutting from her own tree (the same one as in your photos but the shade of pink was lighter). The little plant grew until it got taller than our back fence. I always looked forward to watching it bloom. The old couple passed away several a little over 10 years ago, but I always had that tree and I would tell everybody the story of how I got it. I took such good care of my tree. It was the only thing that I had of them. Unfortunately, my tree dried up a couple of years ago and I have always regretted it so much! Looking at your photos was a bittersweet memory and I thank you for putting them up.

Trish Rowley

Hi Kim, I lost my Dad in 1989 but I feel him around me all the time as I'm sure your Dad is around you and may I say very proud of you, I know that because children are a reflexion of their parents and I know that yours are wonderful, beautiful, people because you are. Congratulations on your 700th post! I look forward to each and every one. I was looking back at some of your posts, and in the 6th photo in your "Randomness" post on June 6th there is a crewel embroidery of a bouquet of flowers on the left side of the pic. When I was younger, I made that exact embroidery from a kit and gave it to my mom. It hung in her living room for years. She passed away last month and I don't know what ever became of it. I'd like to think it has found a home in your wonderful Daisy Cottage. Missing both my parents on Father's Day.

sarita

700 lovely posts! you have made this bloggin world, and a lot of ours, brighter with the words that you write. CONGRATS and here's to at least 700 more!

Cindy (aka Grandma C)

700th post, wow a mile stone and then some. I'm thinking that is a lot of ideas, thoughts, memories, feelings, emotion, new friends, forgotten loved ones, thifting finds, mirrors, did I mention memories that you have made. Sweet, Kim you are a true kindred spirit.

My son got hit on that motorcycle that is only two days old with only a two digit mileage on it.(tomorrows blog) I spent the day crying, my dad is still with us (dementia) but not in mind. He called me 4 times today as he forgot each time before he had called - It doesn't seem to matter, nothing does - as Matthew is ok this time. I've been blessed this Father's Day

Kimberly Ryan

700! You are dedicated....just stopping by to say hit, it's been a while, just thinking of you ! Have a happy week , hugs xoxo Kimberly

Wow! 700th post! That is quite an accomplishment and something you should be proud of.

I lost my Dad in '96. I'm always saying, "Dad would have love that" or "Dad would have loved this restaurant". But most of all he would have loved seeing his grandchildren grow up into fine adults and loved seeing his great-grandchildren.

Margo

These flowers look gorgeous! I like the way the small blossoms cluster together to make such a beautiful bunch. I do not recognize them, so maybe they do not grow in the arid west. Do you mind telling me just what these blooms are?

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
