Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

How fitting that she is sitting in the very chair she found for you:)

You do look tired Shannon. Rest up as Life is just beginning for you!

My kids love cheesecake too and actually prefer that over birthday cake.

That cheesecake looks incredible - plain is best, I agree! Thank you so much for the recipe!

Shannon and Mags look lovely, as usual.

Have a wonderful day, Kim!

pogonip @ meadowsweet cottage

That's my favorite kind of cheesecake--virtual, with NO calories! Thanks mucho. Hope everyone recovers from celebrating :)

Cherry

OHHH no my fave..and my weakness! Soooo yummy though! Hugs, cherry

Heike

I love cheesecake - here in Germany is plain cheesecake normal. You can get seldom a cheesecake with topping like fruits or juice.

I hope you both will recover soon and enjoy your day.

With best regards

Anna

Ohh I've been sick and missed your Girls b-day, thats why I will say my wishes now :) I wish her all the best, a everyday smile on her face, luck and all joy in the world :)

Your cheesecake looks delicious, I'm a huge fan of cheescakes I just bought a piece for me today to sweeten up my day :)
Big hugs for you Kim :) Have a lovely day :) xoxo

Our children grow up so very fast. Both of you are very pretty ladies (oops--all 3 of you) sorry Maggie. Now get busy on another wonderful and blessed year!!!!!!!!!

Privet and Holly

Sounds like a BLESSED birthday! I love seeing my own girl with our Gracie in her arms. One of my biggest DREADS in a few years when she is off to college is the thought of Gracie without "her girl." But, now sad thoughts today ~ today it is HAPPY and CHEESECAKE! Can't wait to see the recipe. The BEST cheesecake I've ever had was PLAIN from a bakery in London. I was a senior in high school and my mom and I were there and bought some to eat during the intermission of the musical ANNIE. They wrapped it up oh so prettily ~ forks included ~ and we stepped outside during intermission and it was heavenly. We BOTH remember it to this day! May yours be JUST as sweet, today! xx P&H

Birthdays are such happy days, and I am glad Shannon had a full on wonderful day! I love cheesecake plain or not!

carla

I like my cheesecake unadulterated as well, but I also like it with strawberries (fresh) and real blueberry sauce, and with just a drizzle of raspberry syrup, or chocolate...oh well, you get the picture.

Lori

I never met a cheesecake I didn't love! Thanks for sharing.

I've never seen a dog that loves the camera as much as Maggie. She makes me smile.

Have a wonderful day!

Trish Rowley

It is NOT a word that would EVER be used to describe YOU :)

rue

Marianne

Oh my - the cheesecake looks scrumptious. I MUST try it. I am so glad Shannon had a wonderful birthday. Rest up Shannon, you're just beginning your adventure called LIFE.
I love my cheesecake plain but I call it natural cheesecake.

When it comes to cheesecake, you are a purist, like me. This one looks yummy! This is the link to the one I have used for many years. It's a bit more trouble, but WELL WORTH the effort.

Kim~~ I enjoyed your article in Cabins and Cottages and I
will be making this cake. This looks soooo good. Thanks.:O)

SusanG

Pure - we like our cheesecake PURE! :) (Much better word than plain, I think.) Happy late birthday to Shannon!! My girl turns 21 on June 9th - born in your very own Lakeland. Hard to believe it has been that many years since I first met her. :)

Susan

Cyndi

I love cheesecake plain too. My recipe is very similar to yours, but I add a little lemon zest. The hint of lemon makes the cake! I'll admit that I bought a cheesecake at Costco a few weeks ago and it was really good! So, in a cheesecake emergency, run to Costco!

Cindy

Happy Birthday, Shannon, beautiful girl, like her mom, gorgeous eyes! They grow up too fast! My oldest son, 37 and youngest son, 32. Grandson, 12, grandson, 7, and granddaughter, 5. A happy family like yours. From Oklahoma, Love, Cindy

Annie

Your daughter is beautiful, and happy birthday to her.

I chose cheesecake for my birthday too, earlier this month. Yup, plain for me.

: )

Mary Lou

Wow. that was delicious. Thank you so much..
Shannon is a beautiful woman as is her mother.
Maggie looks fresh as a Daisy!

Lynn Paterson

What pretty daughter you have......really like the photo. It is priceless.....

Esther Sunday

Happy belated birthday (that's Esther Sunday style for ya right there) to your beautiful Shannon!!!!

Pat

Cheesecake is a little slice of heaven and I do prefer it without any additions, however, they are ok too! Shannon is absolutely beautiful, tired or not. I'm so glad she's had a wonderful time celebrating.

Thanks for the recipe!

Loree

I love to have a topping on my cheesecake, especially if it is a black cherry sauce :)

Lila Ferraro

That has to be the best looking cheesecake ever! It is my weakness next to chocolate! I read your post about how you always wanted to be there for your daughter. I started to cry and my little boy and girl just looked at me funny! I had to say, "Mommy's just happy that's all." I don't think they believed me but, that was a darling post!

Oh, the cheesecake is making my mouth water! I love it with the graham craker crust also. Happy Birthday (belated) to Shannon! The photo is so cute!

Danielle Jones

I agree with your cheesecake philosophy wholeheartedly! I always double the crust and prefer not to complicate things with toppings. What's a good word for that? Unadorned? Classic maybe? :)

Sherry Smith

Dear Kim,

I was away for the long Victoria Day weekend in Beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I'm sure you had a lovely weekend yourself, with the celebration of your dear daughter, Shannon. Just finished reading your heartfelt and warm words describing your love for your girl. You had me in tears, for I also have a daughter, in fact, I have two, one is fourteen and one is twelve years old. You touched my heartstrings! YOU ARE A SPECIAL LADY, and Shannon is very, very lucky to have you as her mom.

Love and Lots and Lots of Hugs go your way

Lore

Sheila

They are both GORGEOUS!

XO,

Sheila :-)

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY-CHEESECAKE IS PERFECT WHEN IT IS CREAMY-AND I LOVE MINE TOPPED WITH LOADS OF BRIGHT RED CHERRIES. RED IS ALWAYS GOOD.
YOUR DAUGHTER IS VERY BEAUTIFUL, JUST LIKE HER MOM.

Scribbler

Your daughter is so pretty -- glad she had a great birthday. And the cheesecake... I am going to have a birthday soon, and I might just have to make myself one. I agree -- NO embellishments! Cheesecake has a subtle flavor, and you cannot taste it at all if you put ANYTHING on it!

Scribbler

Deborah

This beautiful cheesecake is NOT PLAIN! It's simple, which is a much better word for something wonderful and uncomplicated.
Love to you all, dear Kim. I can't wait to make this--ahem--Simply Fabulous Cheesecake.

Thank You Dena!

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "Oh my! I have just stepped into heaven. A nostalgic, magic, getaway place where folk love one another and life is sweet. Kim, you will probably never know just how many hearts you have touched with your site. " ~ Francesca

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank you Joy!

  • "Your blog has helped me start to see the beauty in life again." ~ Joy

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Tracy!

  • "Your words and thoughts of encouragement help me see myself with value. You are a blessing. Thank you." ~ Tracy

Thank you Karen!

Thank You Betty Jo!

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
