Hi Everyone!
Before I share what I've been up to, I need to let Lynn know that she won my Fancy Flea Giveaway!
Hi Kim, love the sidewalk scene that shows all the booths lined up....and of course, Blueberry Mike was not too bad either! Really liked the close up of the plates too. The photos were spectacular.....for a moment I thought I was there!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Mr. Daisy Cottage and I slipped away for a few days to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary in Savannah! We had a wonderful time. And speaking of time - where oh where DID the years go? We were babies when we said "I Do" way back in 1979! And weren't we just having babies and now our babies are all grown? Sigh. I am sure you know just what I mean.
Ahhhh life.
Well, no matter the occasion, it is ALWAYS wonderful to visit Savannah. And it is even more special to me now because I saw snow for the first time in my life there in February! Have you visited my favorite city yet? If you haven't, I truly hope that one day you will. Savannah's charm slowly seeps into your spirit and stays with you all the way home. It is the kind of place that you are homesick for even if it isn't your home. It is the kind of place that your heart pines for when your soul aches for the charm of days gone by. But it is also the kind of place that makes you feel ALIVE with its resident artisans and curious students who are creating and composing on every street corner. The Savannah vibe is contagious and one that you will not wish to seek a remedy for. Savannah is Savannah is Savannah - hauntingly beautiful, incurably romantic, and a southern treasure. And if you have been there before, you know what I am trying to describe. I love it there - very much.
But I love coming home too. I am so thankful for that. That is what I want all of YOU to feel about where you live - that there is NO place like home.
We visited our our favorite coffee shop and my favorite book store and found a delightful yarn shop right above it that I haven't been in before. We spent time down by the river and watched the boats and all of the interesting people. I didn't have my camera with me for that so I will make sure to take photos of the riverfront the next time we visit.
We ate here for the first time and while the abundance of good old-fashioned southern food was delicious and the setting as quaint as can be, I have to admit that my mother-in-law's cooking is even better if you can imagine! While we waited in line, I met Vicki - a sweetheart from Indiana who I found out during our conversation, enjoys reading decorating blogs and actually has a blog but she didn't know about my blog. And proving once again it IS a small world, she shared that her favorite blog is Rhoda's blog and I told her that Rhoda is a friend of mine and had visited me before too! So that was really cool and I really enjoyed talking with her. Dear Vicky, if you are reading this, thank you so much for spending time chatting with me. What a beautiful person you are.
We celebrated our anniversary here with a very special dinner. It was divine. Fabulous in every way - from the ambiance to the service to the very last morsel. I highly recommend it. A perfect place to have dinner with friends or with the one you love.
We walked and walked (thank goodness after eating all of that food) and I snapped a few photos along the way. Savannah is extremely photogenic and just like potato chips - when it comes to taking photos of her, you can't limit yourself to just one. ;-)
I hope it is okay if I share all of them with you ...
Hello Savannah ...
It WAS a very sweet time in a very gracious southern city. And it is ALWAYS hard to say goodbye.
Therefore, I didn't.
Instead I asked this bench to save its seat for me - until I can visit again.
And I will.
'Til next time Savannah ...
Love,
Kim
I swear that's the very same restaurant (Elizabeths on 37th) that my husband and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary at in 1984!! We had a lovely vacation to Savannah and have always wanted to return. How great to see your pictures!
I think my blood pressure must register "ultra-relaxed" now after your tour of sweet Savannah. What an unbelievably beautiful city!
Happy Anniversary to you and your sweetie. We just celebrated our 35th(!) and I feel the same way about time disappearing. No regrets since we somehow, like you, knew to enjoy our kids while they were tiny :)
Kim,
Happy Anniversary!! My hubby and I were married in 1979 also and will celebrate our 31st anniversary this coming Sept.
I've always wanted to go to Savannah, but have not gotten there yet. I still hope that we visit there one day...it is such a beautiful place.
How beautiful Savannah is. I h ave passed by there, but never have actually went in the town. It's gorgeous! My husband went wild over the bookstore. (So did I.) We both love books! Thank you so much for sharing your anniversary with us and I pray that you are blessed with many more!
Oh, I love, love, love Savannah. We've been several times. The first time we took my granddaughter she heard me talking about the ghost tour and she wanted to go on one. She was only 4 then and loved it. Her favorite story was about the ghost kitty (she is soooo my grandchild). We were there last year Labor Day weekend.
I've never been to Mrs. Wilkes boarding house.
I think I've taken pictures of the same buildings as you have.
We go to Tybee when we are there.
Sometimes I wonder where the time has gone too. My hubby and I will be married 40 years this year. Seems like just yesterday when I was 16 and met him. Where did all that time go?
Happy Anniversary to you and Mr. Daisy.
Now you have me wanting to go to Savannah again. I feel so "at home" there.
Kim: First, Congratulations on 31 years! Couldn't think of a better couples adventure than Savannah. I was there on a b-day trip about ten years ago and, as you said, fell in love with the history and magic of this alluring city. I am actually GOING BACK this summer {hooray} when a certain artistic progeny of mine takes a course there at the Savannah College of Art and Design. We are both very excited, albeit for different reasons. I am looking forward to meandering through the Historic District and taking it all in, camera in hand. Just hope I can do it justice, as you have HERE! Thanks for taking us along on your ROMANTIC trip! xx P&H
Kim, Congrats on your Wedding Anniversary. I love, love Savannah, I think of her everyday. The first time I was there it took by breath away. I am happiest there sitting on a bench in one of the Squares and just looking at the Spanish Moss and people. Savannah is a magical city. It keeps drawing me back....
HiKim, Did you knoe I am descended from the Salzbugers who were one of the first settlers in Savannah??? My family as far back as I can remember was from there! I wish I had known you were going! I went to school at Independent Presbyterian, was Christened at St. Johns, worked at The Pirate House, The Chart House, and a great shop that is no longer there on Broughton Street. It is now a SCAD building. I hope you bought the cookbook from Elizabeth's on 37th it is great even though Elizabeth does not own it anymore. One of my Grandparent's old homes is the yellow antique shop right down from there...can't remember the name. Did you go to Bonaventure cemetary? We have a big family plot out there. Did not know you were going until you were gone. I met one of your friends Mary at the art show at ALL GOOD Things...Love her and her art. I also did not know that Jill was your sister...small world...realy want to catch up! KIM
I had the pleasure of visiting Savannah with my sister a few years ago. I will never forget it and it will go down as one of my favourite trips. We were in Charleston the day before and loved that too, but Savannah was the perfect end to a perfect trip. It's like Charleston is the lady with the hat and gloves....Savannah is the lady whose slip is showing....just a little freer and a tad wilder....
if you know what I mean!! Lovely pictures Kim and lucky you to get to spend a few days in such a beautiful spot.
Happy Anniversary!!!! We had our 38th anniversary last month and I'm with you in wondering where the time went. I thought I'd be taller by now, too....
Thank you for taking us on such a complete tour of the Savannah! The wonderful porches, magnificent trees, lovely gardens, beautiful flowers, and deep Southern shade have me ready to put my feet up with a glass of iced tea to keep my company.
The Book Lady's shop is too glorious! Can you tell we have thousands of books in this house?
Welcome home! Hugs!
I soooo want to go there someday...and sooner rather than later. I am "homesick" with longing after viewing your lovely photos. I want to plop down in that yellow Adirondack chair in the bookstore and just be...know what I mean? Just be....and daydream.
Thanks for the trip Kim and Happy Anniversary.
This place could not be more charming, what a gorgeous city! It reminds me a bit of Charleston which is one of my all time favorite places that I've been to. I'm so glad you shared these pictures with us! That green house with the blue porch ceiling made me stop in my tracks. Gorgeous color scheme!
Happy Anniversiary Kim! Time does has a way of flying by when you are with the one you love. Savannah is a magical place and once you are there its in your blood forever. Your pictures captured all the wonderful things about Savannah. I loved each picture but was drawn to the graceful legs of the horse pulling the carriage. It just made my soul smile because I love the lines of horses. DH and I will celebrate our 50th this August. We have actually been together since I was 15 and he was 16. Thanks again for capturing the "heart" of Savannah.
Hugs,
Connie
Wonderful photos, Kim, AND Happy Anniversary! :-)
I used to visit Savannah sometimes when I was in route to Charleston to see my sister. It is a lovely place. I had always thought we would retire to Charleston, but then my sister left there. So I think we will just stay put in Florida. :-)
The next time you are up this way, I wish you would stop in St. Augustine to have lunch or breakfast or brunch or dinner or tea! LOL! Let me know, and I would love to be your tour guide there. We're not as "fancy" as our northern neighbors, but we have a fun charm all our own, Florida style. ;-)
Love you much...
XO,
Sheila :-)
My husband and I drove from Massachusetts the first week in April to experience "spring" in Savannah. It was THE most beautiful time to be there. Everything was in bloom and the temps were perfect for sightseeing. It is truly , I think, one of the prettiest cities in this country.
Hi Kim & Mr. Daisy Cottage
Happy Anniversary! It looks as if you had a wonderful time in Savannah! Lucky you!
I have always wanted to go to Savannah. Have read alot of Eugenia Price books that take place in what sounds like a wonderful place and now I've seen that it is true through your lovely photos.
I thought I might have a chance to go this summer. My nephew graduated from Kansas University last year and then moved to Athens, Georgia. I thought yippeee now I have a reason to go to Savannah! The distant between the two towns is only 4 hours. Sad to say my nephew moved back to KS about a month ago. So now I'm not likely to get their any time soon.:(
But oh your photos of the trees and the churches and the flowers and that fabulous bookstore! Being a librarian I can really appreciate that bookstore!:)
You know I do need a vacation hmmmm...just maybe I will go to Savannah sometime soon!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos!
Have a great weekend!
One question though - who takes care of Miss Maggy & Marley when you are gone?
Oh, Kim, I've always wanted to visit Savannah! The beauty of your photos are even more convincing, as is the delicious food I've heard all about. Have you ever eaten at Paula Deen's restaurant there? I never knew how beautiful Savannah was until I started blogging. Such history! I'm SO glad you had such an enjoyable anniversary!! And the scenery is as charming and interesting and beautiful as anything you ever present to your friends here.
I most love the little golden chair, set down amongst Rilke and Eliot and The Iliad, as if awaiting a most intelligent child's regular visits.
And I wonder what they would do if you said, "I want that one right THERE,"---pointing to the very bottom one on the stair's trove.
Oh, how I do adore Savannah! When we go, we stay right next door to the Wilkes House on Jones Street, in Luxury Living apartments. We usually rent it for the week. I totally agree with EVERY word of your wonderful description of the lovely SAVANNAH. Makes me want to go back right this minute. In my mind, it's heaven on earth.
Oh! My! What a gorgeous city! I want to see it in person. The church is breathtaking - especially love the ceiling. All the colors of Savannah are so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your pretty pics and a big Happy 31st Anniversary!
My husband and I were in Savannah in March, and I recognize so many places in your photos. Such a pretty place. We got caught in a thunderstorm, and drenched getting across the street again to our hotel; then a couple of hours later, were out on the town and the weather was perfect. We swear that next time we will take one of the Ghost Tours!
I love the pictures Kim. My hubby and I visited before the waterfront was restored. . . a very long time ago. It would have been our 50th this year, but he's been gone since 2001. Brought back good memories. Thank you. Blessings, Janet
Dear Kim,
I married my hs sweetheart in 1979 too- but we lost him to cancer years ago. I have since remarried (2003.)
I LOVE Savannah - only went there once, with m y eldest daughter and cannot WAIT to go back! There is so much to see and do, and the history is intense there, loved it.
Your pictures are amazing, I always feel as though I went there again when yo post them. Thank you for all the eye candy.
God bless your marriage,
Michele
Wow Kim, the photos are beautiful! The hanging moss, the brick, the ironwork, the lace at the windows, the flowers, all so lovely. And the name of the place itself... "Suhvannah, George-uh..." say it like a southern lady! Wouldn't it have been romantic to live in one of those homes and wear the long dresses and huge hats? Thanks so much for a relaxing tour!
Hey Kim,
So glad that we were sitting on the same bench waiting for Mrs. Wilkes to open! I do believe that our lives are ordered by God and that day is proof of it. Thanks for our sweet conversation. And wow, I can't wait to have more time to look around your blog. LOVE your pics - it feels like I'm back in Savannah when I look at them. I'll be back - now we are new friends, both online and off!
Hi Kim~
How fun to see that you were recently in Savannah as well! We were there toward the end of April. It was my first visit and I loved it. So fun to see that some of your pictures are a match to mine!
It's a gorgeous city, that's for sure, and your photos captured it beautifully.
