Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Becky K.

I have had that very conversation with our chihuahua, Chloe.
She loves the feel of the sunshine on her black coat.

Becky K.

Maggie

She is just so cute though. I can see why you can't stay mad at her for long. Such a sweet face.

Sandy

Hi Kim,
Good Morning to you sweetie! I don't think Ms. Maggie can take a bad photo. She is just so adorable. She is so cute out there in your garden. It's beautiful here too. Yesterday was so warm - almost 90 degrees! It was hotter in the house in the evening/night than outside. I was sweating and had to turn the A/C on. There was no breeze so it wouldn't have helped to open the windows. It's going to cool down by the end of the week though. Well, I better get back to my laundry. Have a great day!

Teacup Lane (Sandy)

Kim Nichols

Kim, I knew before I looked that it was going to be Miss Maggie. She is so pretty sitting in the sun and being stubborn. Have a great day!!

Kim

Jean

I think dogs named Maggie have selective hearing. I'm the neighborhood "washer woman". "Maggie! Maggie! Maggie get in here!!!" Never works.....

Debby Messner

Ahhhhh, how cute. Precious puppy.

Nita@ModVintageLife.com

Oh...having four little weenies myself I know how stubborn they can be. They do what they decide they want to do when they want to do it. I have to trick mine into coming in the house. Three of mine will come in if I yell "treats". But Violet, she wants me to show her exactly what it is I'm offering her to come in for and if it's not something she is that interested in...she'll turn her nose up and stay outside. I've found if I close the door and walk away...eventually she can't stand that I've decided she should stay outside and she'll come wanting in. It all has to be her idea. All of this is fine except for when I'm trying to get somewhere fast. Negotiating outside/inside with the weenies when you are in a hurry can be exasperating.

Adrienne

Oh, Kim, my heart just smiled as I looked at Maggie in the garden and when I read your words I knew EXACTLY what you were talking about. She has that same Doxie look I see in my Joey when the sun shines and he thinks he's in charge of the back yard! The tilt of her head, the look in her eyes, the 'thoughtful' appearance she gives are SO familiar! I loved every photo and your words. Joey and I have just started Beginning Dog Training classes - this week we are working on 'watch me' and 'sit'. He's doing well because he knows there will be a treat when he makes the right move. They are so sweet - and so frustrating at times - you and I are blessed to have our sweet Doxies! Soak up the sun, Maggie. You look gorgeous in the garden. But you really should obey your mama. She knows what's best!
~Adrienne~

Kathleen Grace

I completely understand Maggie's desire to bask in the sunshine, it is intoxicating and wonderful after a long winter:>)

Kimberly C.

she's a keeper.

Debra

She is so sweet. My little Shih tzu has selective hearing too!

Kathy Charniak

Maggie always puts a smile on my face, thanks for making my morning. My Annie (cocker/terrier) is at a new groomer. I will get the treatment when I go to pick her up. Love from chilly ILLinois, Kathy C

Judy

Our furry friends certainly put smiles on our faces, don't they? I just had to coax my doxie to get out of the car...our ride to the store was over....he wanted to stay in the car with the sunshine on his head. Loved the pics! Judy

Shannon Olson

yep, our golden will bring her baby outside and leave it to be rained on and stink even more than it already does. I tell her to bring baby in, she ignores me. I repeat, she ignores, so I tell her she can't come in until she does and of course, she goes to get it. Stubborn! Don't you just love dogs. yours is beautiful by the way.

Cindy S

And what a lovely garden ornament she is!!! Right? I need two wicker chairs just like that one, I am keeping my eye out on Kijiji for them! Hugs, Cindy S

Deborah

Kim,

Buster (my 13 year old cairn terrier) and Scout (my 2 year old rat terrier) occasionally decide to take themselves for walks along the private dirt road that is the perimeter of our six acres. I go outside to call them in and they are no where to be found. I will finally grab my binoculars and spy them trotting down the path with big doggie smiles all full of themselves!
Maggie is a doll and much prettier than any flower in a garden.

Deborah

Emily

Way 2 Funny:) Cutie Pie that Maggie:) YUP she is a beautiful garden ornament!! watching her sit there makes me feel the Sun warm me up....

Debbie L.

Good Morning Kim and Maggie!

Hee Hee Maggie can get away with being stubborn because she is just so adorable:) I popped out laughing at your comment hoping she doesnt rust out there ha.

Thanks for the chuckle and I hope you and Maggie have enjoyed this beautiful sunny Florida day.

xoxo Debbie L.

My Husky will actually get up and lay back down with her back to me. Obstinate creature. : )

Scenes like the ones you posted today are repeated daily at Ash Tree Cottage. Bentley loves his sun baths. He will ignore me too, but how can we be mad at such sweet little fur babies??

Love,

the sun.

Becky from Tennessee

HAHA! How funny, Kim! Your Maggie is stubborn?? Well,
you should own a Basset!!! I don't think our Wilbur can
be beat in the stubborn department. He's so darn comical
that you can't get mad at him......kind of like with your
cutie Maggie!

Hope you and Maggie are enjoying your day,
Becky

fiberdoodles

And an adorable ornament she is!

Enjoy your day!

dprice@pbtcomm.net

I actually laughed out loud when I read your rust comment. You are clever and she is adorable. No wonder we love our pets. They have a mind of their own and they still choose to love us.

kathi

How cute. Nugget and Dylan LOVE to sit out in the sunshine too. Wish I could join them on such a pretty day!
Lovely little Maggie makes the perfect "garden ornament!" :D

Jane

Find a sunspot, inside or out and my dogs are loving it!

As always, Maggie looks beautiful!

xoxo
Janie

Dan

I think she makes an adorable garden ornament. Or little Parker loves to be in the sun. She loves to lie in the grass or on the concrete and soak it up. She will come in when we call her and if she doesn't all we have to say is, "Do you want a treat?" It works every time. You may want to try that! Don't worry, there is no charge for my dog therapy I am just glad to help...lol!

I hope you have a great day!

~Dan~

Vonnie

Hi Kim:
She looks so happy there in the sun. What great weather we've been having. I'm glad to see that you're around and that you've been puttering in the yard, too.
Blessings,
Vonnie

Trish Rowley

I Love it!! Maggie is so cute and I love that one flower has bloomed just for Maggie to look at while she is in her favourite spot basking in the sun beautiful. Have a great day Kim and Maggie! Trish xox ;)

Elaine/MuddlingThrough

what a perfect ornament she makes! And of course that's why we let our babies get away with all they do - they are so perfectly adorable, how could you not?

Tracy Barkett

Maggie just made my day! I too had a hard time staying inside. Mass winters are cold and today it is 87 degrees. soak it all up Maggie!

Bask in the glow, baby!

Janet (Shabbyfufu)

Darling Maggie looks perfectly content working on her tan! Murphy will be right over to help her in the lizard hunt...his favorite hobby:-) ~xoxo~ Janet

Elizabeth Marchus

Hi Kim,
How funny! Are sweet little dog "Kona" use to play you can't see me and I can't hear you too! We called her Kona the invisible dog. She use to love to sleep on the couch when we weren't home and would quickly get down when we walked in the door. She always thought she was fooling us. Silly little dog.
Maggie is just the cutest! One day we will have another dog, when we retire and can spend a lot of time with her. But for now I enjoy reading all about my friends pets and their mischief.
Take care and hugs, Elizabeth

Jen-

Is it a dachshund thing? Because our new small beagle is half dachshund and she does the very same thing! She pretends my voice calling her is just a melody from the little birds. hehe. Such cute faces for such independent thinkers. Bless their hearts.

Maggie is adorable. It's really unfair to all the other dogs in the world...how much you and I love ours. *happysigh*

Michele

hahahaha

hilarious

Bungalow Bliss

She has just the sweetest face!

Lynn Paterson

So adorable.......the photos are just priceless......like the puppy dog!

Danielle Jones

She looks so regal overseeing her garden :)

mary-The Calico Cottage

Aww, Maggie likes to lie in the sun! My doxies did, too. Especially the black one, Maggie! Seriously!
I don't think she will rust! Oh, she is a gorgeous dog!

Christinedrevo@rocketmail.com

It's funny how little doggies tend to ignore their Mommies when it's nice, bright, cool and sunny when it's time to come in then again it seems to happen when there is a little bird flying too low or that icky thing that crawls on the back yard walls. LOL.... selective hearing...I know our little pooch is preparing us for when our dear little girl is a teenager I just know it!!

Jan

rust...too funny

Cute post of cute Maggie...reminds me of a few scenes in The Ugly Dachsund!

Sherri@lavenderfields

I don't blame her! I can just imagine how good that nice warm sun on her back feels! So cute! I'm not very good at training dogs. My Pekingese runs the show! Thank goodness she is only 8 lbs!! So I'm well used to that look when I call my Sadie : )

Marianne & Mindy

Kim
Maggie is just too cute... and funny ... and stubborn. I know my Mindy is just the same. They are way too precious to stay upset with. I know what you mean when you say she melts your heart. She's melting mine just looking at her pictures.

Julie Harward

Oh she is so cute! I don't blame her..I used to stay in my apple tree when mom called me to come in...what else can you do on such mesmerizing days?! Come say hi :D

Diane

What a darling lawn ornament. I'm sorry to say that it seems her stubbornness is just an endearing quality (from here!) She is the cutest little dog.

Yesterday I went to SA and there was a miniature long haired doxie 4 months old peeking out of a car window. Oh how sweet. Diane

Maria

it's a good thing to be honery sometimes - we get to do what we really want to do - maggie put her heart into this one and stuck to it - she is so cute and precious, i just want to squeeze her chicks - love ya all - cottage feel

When our Trixie hides in the bushes we call it " playing special ops" ! Our furry friends are the very best additions to any home and garden !

Just precious, just like your home !

They do have a mind of their own, don't they? And we wouldn't have it any other way!

Lucy

She's a trip isn't she????.....too cute!

Roxie Meiske

As the mother of two doxies I understand. The smartest thing we ever did was put in a doggie door. It took a while for us to teach Trixie Gertrude how to use the door. She is afraid of the dark. She will follow the other doxie (her daughter) Peggy Sue when she goes...we can say "Peggy Sue your momma wants to go outside" and she will jump down and go out with her mother.
Both of them love to lay out in the yard by the day lilies. Roxie

Melinda

Our little chihuahua, Holly, does the same thing. She loves being outside in the sunshine after such a long, cold winter. What a cute dog you have. Love & blessings from NC!

Becky G.

Oh, that last line got me! Thanks for the chuckle! And as another proud Doxie Mama, I understand completely! We've had a few very sunny, very warm days here, and when my two girls haven't been digging for lizards or chipmunks they have been corked out in any little sunny spot they can find. They are such special little girls!

Necel from the Old House in Texas

Precious... Acts like my June Bug. I would love it if you would link to my Fur Friends Friday party.

Maura (in Kansas)

Hello Kim, Looks like Maggie is totally enjoying herself in the garden and I don't blame her...what a pretty place to lay around! I hope you have another good day tomorrow. Take care

She is the best thing in your garden. And I love everything in your garden but she is so precious!!!!

Cindy

Maggie is just too adorable!!!

kim

Ms. Maggie is sooo sweet!!!

Kim D.

And a lovely ornament she is.. We do love our dogs, don't we??

Pat McDonald

HI Kim, Thank you for sharing the ordinary every day things that happen around your cottage......you continually make me smile! I can't identify with this one. My two yellow labs are always watching me and want to be where ever I am. They believe they're human....and I let them believe it! Thanks again for your beautiful and relaxing blog. Pat

Victoria

Hi Kim,
She melts my heart too! I have a miniature doxie that loves to stay by my side when I'm gardening. I think they're the cutest dogs ever. Thank you for sharing! Victoria Lynn

Renie Cee

Hey Kim,

Miss Maggie is a total diva! But a cute one at that. That is why you just can't be mad at her:>)

XOXOXO to you and Maggie,
Renie

Colleen

Oh Kim she is just too precious. She is enjoying this beautiful spring weather after a long, hard winter. She is watching the flowers bloom, smelling the fresh cut grass and taking a little rest.

Josephine Tale Pedder

She'll come when she's hungry. xx

Loree

I love her. She is so cute and full of character.

Ann Flowers

Beautiful.... the pictures and words were a joy to see and read... :O) Keep on posting. Your blog made me laugh :)

Anna

Helo Kim:)
What a wonderfull weather you have in Florida:) Maggie looks as always adoreable, she is such a cutie :)

Have a nice day, xoxo

melissa klein

Your girl is so dear. I have many similar photos of my dapple dauchsand/beagle mix "Lucy". Like Maggie, she does things her way on her own time. God loves a dauchsie!

Renee

Ohhh, she just found her place in the sun and didn't want to give it up. Like we sometimes do.

Terri Morse

Ooooh, she's soooo cute! My Molly seems to have developed the same case of selective hearing loss since the warm weather has arrived. Her favorite thing to do is stand outside and sniff the breeze. I guess it's a canine (er, fuzzy human) thing.

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
