No the wicker chair isn't my new garden ornament.
But she thinks that she is ...
On this sunny day last week Miss Maggie decided that she wasn't going to bother to hunt for lizards. And she also decided in her most stubborn dachshund way that she wasn't going to go back inside the house either until she was done basking in the sun. She refused to move from her newly claimed spot and pretended not to hear me when I called her name. Of course even when she is being obnoxiously stubborn, she still melts my heart and that is why she gets away with the things that she does.
So she sat awhile ...
And stood awhile and completely ignored me ...
"Maggie. Maggie. MAGGIE!"
"Listen to Mommy."
"It's time to come inside. Do you hear me?"
Apparently not.
Apparently she likes being the new garden ornament.
I hope she doesn't rust out there.
;-)
Kim
I have had that very conversation with our chihuahua, Chloe.
She loves the feel of the sunshine on her black coat.

Hi Kim,
Good Morning to you sweetie! I don't think Ms. Maggie can take a bad photo. She is just so adorable. She is so cute out there in your garden. It's beautiful here too. Yesterday was so warm - almost 90 degrees! It was hotter in the house in the evening/night than outside. I was sweating and had to turn the A/C on. There was no breeze so it wouldn't have helped to open the windows. It's going to cool down by the end of the week though. Well, I better get back to my laundry. Have a great day!

Kim, I knew before I looked that it was going to be Miss Maggie. She is so pretty sitting in the sun and being stubborn. Have a great day!!

I think dogs named Maggie have selective hearing. I'm the neighborhood "washer woman". "Maggie! Maggie! Maggie get in here!!!" Never works.....

Ahhhhh, how cute. Precious puppy.

Oh...having four little weenies myself I know how stubborn they can be. They do what they decide they want to do when they want to do it. I have to trick mine into coming in the house. Three of mine will come in if I yell "treats". But Violet, she wants me to show her exactly what it is I'm offering her to come in for and if it's not something she is that interested in...she'll turn her nose up and stay outside. I've found if I close the door and walk away...eventually she can't stand that I've decided she should stay outside and she'll come wanting in. It all has to be her idea. All of this is fine except for when I'm trying to get somewhere fast. Negotiating outside/inside with the weenies when you are in a hurry can be exasperating.

Oh, Kim, my heart just smiled as I looked at Maggie in the garden and when I read your words I knew EXACTLY what you were talking about. She has that same Doxie look I see in my Joey when the sun shines and he thinks he's in charge of the back yard! The tilt of her head, the look in her eyes, the 'thoughtful' appearance she gives are SO familiar! I loved every photo and your words. Joey and I have just started Beginning Dog Training classes - this week we are working on 'watch me' and 'sit'. He's doing well because he knows there will be a treat when he makes the right move. They are so sweet - and so frustrating at times - you and I are blessed to have our sweet Doxies! Soak up the sun, Maggie. You look gorgeous in the garden. But you really should obey your mama. She knows what's best!

Our furry friends certainly put smiles on our faces, don't they? I just had to coax my doxie to get out of the car...our ride to the store was over....he wanted to stay in the car with the sunshine on his head. Loved the pics! Judy

yep, our golden will bring her baby outside and leave it to be rained on and stink even more than it already does. I tell her to bring baby in, she ignores me. I repeat, she ignores, so I tell her she can't come in until she does and of course, she goes to get it. Stubborn! Don't you just love dogs. yours is beautiful by the way.

Kim,
Buster (my 13 year old cairn terrier) and Scout (my 2 year old rat terrier) occasionally decide to take themselves for walks along the private dirt road that is the perimeter of our six acres. I go outside to call them in and they are no where to be found. I will finally grab my binoculars and spy them trotting down the path with big doggie smiles all full of themselves!
Maggie is a doll and much prettier than any flower in a garden.

I think she makes an adorable garden ornament. Or little Parker loves to be in the sun. She loves to lie in the grass or on the concrete and soak it up. She will come in when we call her and if she doesn't all we have to say is, "Do you want a treat?" It works every time. You may want to try that! Don't worry, there is no charge for my dog therapy I am just glad to help...lol!
I hope you have a great day!

Hi Kim,
How funny! Are sweet little dog "Kona" use to play you can't see me and I can't hear you too! We called her Kona the invisible dog. She use to love to sleep on the couch when we weren't home and would quickly get down when we walked in the door. She always thought she was fooling us. Silly little dog.
Maggie is just the cutest! One day we will have another dog, when we retire and can spend a lot of time with her. But for now I enjoy reading all about my friends pets and their mischief.
Take care and hugs, Elizabeth

Is it a dachshund thing? Because our new small beagle is half dachshund and she does the very same thing! She pretends my voice calling her is just a melody from the little birds. hehe. Such cute faces for such independent thinkers. Bless their hearts.
Maggie is adorable. It's really unfair to all the other dogs in the world...how much you and I love ours. *happysigh*

It's funny how little doggies tend to ignore their Mommies when it's nice, bright, cool and sunny when it's time to come in then again it seems to happen when there is a little bird flying too low or that icky thing that crawls on the back yard walls. LOL.... selective hearing...I know our little pooch is preparing us for when our dear little girl is a teenager I just know it!!

As the mother of two doxies I understand. The smartest thing we ever did was put in a doggie door. It took a while for us to teach Trixie Gertrude how to use the door. She is afraid of the dark. She will follow the other doxie (her daughter) Peggy Sue when she goes...we can say "Peggy Sue your momma wants to go outside" and she will jump down and go out with her mother.
Both of them love to lay out in the yard by the day lilies. Roxie

Oh, that last line got me! Thanks for the chuckle! And as another proud Doxie Mama, I understand completely! We've had a few very sunny, very warm days here, and when my two girls haven't been digging for lizards or chipmunks they have been corked out in any little sunny spot they can find. They are such special little girls!
