Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

I have loved reading your blog for months, and this featured garden just took my breath away! Being a grandmother, of course my favorite flowers are the easy and beautiful zinnias that my granddaughters and I planted with our "homemade" plant strips!

jennifer

What a lovely garden and inspiring place to be.
How wonderful that you two met again and could connect.
I love the give away! The tea towel is so very sweet.

MJ Smith

Beth has a beautiful garden! Thank you for sharing. However, I didn't see the lizard! I guess I will have to keep looking at the pretty pictures until I do! LOL

Michelle

I am too very inspired! Oh Beth your Home is incredible! I was wondering if we should paint our doors red....now we know! YES! Gorgeous :) Thanks for the tour. xo

Jan

Gorgeous! Tks so much for the tour and that little lizard was perched on that cute little frog :) Having lived in SFL for 31 years (OMG, I can't possibly be that old!!!!), I can spot those little critters anywhere (LOL). The giveaways are all beautiful :) And on my favorite flower ... well that would be hands down the Daisy, as it was our Daughter's all time favorite :) She'll be celebrating her 3rd Anniversary in Heaven on the 28th of this month. God Bless!

Debra

Lovely garden full of color just like your fabulous blog and home. I loooove sweet peas, they are so delicate and have such a sweet sweet fragrance. They just belong in all my vintage vases.

dena

sweet kim - daisy kim,
my favorite flower is geraniums, mostly because they remind me of my beloved grandma; their smell, their colors, their strength. precious grandma euna, i miss her. i always grow a red geranium plant, wherever i live, just to remember her wonderfulness.

Rochelle Gaukel

Hello Kim...I am loving those little birdie salt and pepper shakers! And I loved the peek into Beth's garden....so cute! My favorite flowers are dahlias...I just love the variety of colors and sizes and shapes they have!
Have a great day

Deborah

lol! I see little Lizzie looking over Mr. Froggy to see what all that clicking is. So cute!

The towel is just charming - love it!

My favorite flower? Oh, to be able to pick just one! I love roses, hydrangeas, peony, on and on and on.

Small world indeed! Just yesterday I decided to finally visit a shop in Lafayette, Colorado, called Elizabeth's Embellishments, that I always thought looked enticingly cottage-y and feminine. And I picked up and admired the same tea towel you're giving away!
My favorite flower? Whatever can withstand Colorado's withering sun, dessicating winds, punishing hailstorms and sudden freezes. Sometimes all in one day ;)! So that, for me, is the romantic, perfumed, but surprisingly tough-as-nails lilac. And I love the sturdy, happy sunflower. In the mountains, wild blue columbine and penstemon are beautiful.

B

Oh, Kim. I needed this today. I needed this so much. The pictures. The garden. Your words. Your music.

Sometimes we go about our lives with a smile on our face. Moving through the motions and the routine just like we are suppose to. But deep inside, there can be a pain left unspoken of. Not reaching the surface for anyone else to see because you just don't want to share pain. You just want to share sunshine and roses. I awoke with a prayer to God to just give me something today to make me feel like it's all worth it and there is hope and that I can still pick up that flower pot, shovel, bulb, and make the beauty around me reach deep inside to ease the pain.
I needed this today. Thank you.

Gentrie

My all time favorite flower is Tulips, I also love Mums.

Chris

I think my favorite is a petunia. They always look so happy.

Mom Wald

What a lovely day! It was so sweet of you to let us "tag along". When I have more time I am going to have to find that lizard.

My favorite flowers are roses and pansies OR whatever is blooming at the moment. How is that for fickle? I blogged my tulips today. Finally, spring in Wisconsin!

Laura

Such lovely pictures of a wonderful home! My favorite flower is the snapdragon! I cherish the memory of my great aunt (a wonderful gardener in her own right) teaching me how to "snap" the jaws of the not so ferocious dragons in her garden in Arlington, Virginia...

Tammy

I anticipate sitting down at the computer every day to see what beautiful pictures you post. Thank you for the time and dedication you give to bring a smile to my heart! My favorite flower is the ranunculus.

Justine Cancryn

My favorite flower - sunflowers! Loved exploring beth's garden with you & love that little tea towel. Hope it comes home to me.
Justine

Back in the day I collected frogs. Things got a bit crazy with frogs of every shape, size and color in every nook and cranny! Now I just have about 6 special ones left inside and when I see a cute frog garden item I add one to the yard each year. SO, I paid close enough attention to that one to see his amphibian friend sitting on his head! Too cute!

As for flowers I really can't pick a fave for outside.. they are all so gorgeous. Hubby gets me carnations for bouquets as they are a fave for their long-lastingness (lol) and the scent! My favorite Spring flower is the pansy, though. Here in the North they withstand colder temps and are always the first we can plant outside...and their 'faces' are the sweetest!

Thank you for taking us along, Kim. What an inspiration! I loved seeing Beth's garden, especially her front porch. We are soon going to put in a front porch where there is only a small porch and step and I've been gathering ideas (and things) for my front porch. Beth's porch is very similar to what I had in mind and now I'm excited. And inspired!
~Adrienne~

janet

What lovely garden areas and I especially love the porches...so Southern. My favorite flowers are daffodils; I could never, ever have too many!

racheld

That's almost like choosing amongst the children for who-do-I-love-most.

But I DO crave crepe myrtle, which apparently will not live through these Winters, so every time we go South, I just look my eyes full, as most of the highways have lovely long miles of them planted in the medians, growing lush and colorful.

And watermelon, of course, is my favorite.

Kim

Hi, Kim-
Thank you for sharing this lovely garden with us. Wasn't it sweet of the little lizard to pose for you?
Blessings,
Kim

Kim and Beth - thanks for sharing Beth's garden. I'm always looking for inspiration. I'm not really a gardener, but I'm trying to create a more beautiful place for my family and the children I care for to enjoy. Now I have even more ideas to consider.

I could never pick one flower, but I adore hydrangeas and pansies. Oh, and gerbera daisies, and pinks...see, I really can't pick one. :)

kkarlin

Thanks for sharing Beth's place with us. I think she is a kindred spirit of yours Kim. The photos reminded me alot of you and your decorating style. Everything looked so inviting.
My favorite flowers are tulips cause there so pretty, lilacs cause they smell ssssoooooo good and verbena cause it is so easy to grow! I couldn't name just one. Oh and purple iris also because of the scent!!

My favorite flower is the gerber daisy, I love the colors. But I did have to read some of the comments to find the lizard. Thanks again, have a great weekend.

Miss Jean

My favorite is the lilac. My grandmother had beautiful ones when I was growing up in Michigan. We were recently gone a month on vacation and my lilacs bloomed like never before. Start and finish while I was gone! At least my daughter got to enjoy them!!

Wilene

What beautiful photos! Such an inspiration. I just love reading your blog each day and am so inspired by the pics and the things that you write. Please enter me into your drawing, and thanks again for such a lovely blog. Wilene

Beth's garden should definitely be featured in a magazine, she has that "sit a spell" aura that you do, Kim! Pick my favorite flower? Can't do it... its like picking one child over another! :)

LindaSonia

What an absolutely delightful tour of your friend's home and equally as delightful is your giveaway. Everything is sooo sweet. I will consider it a 'Happy Day' indeed if I'm lucky enough to win.

Oh my, Beth's garden and grounds is a little bit of heaven for certain. Gosh.... I'm nearly speechless. I'm dealing with some stress in my life now and this is so helpful..To come to your site, Kim, relaxes me for a time...and the music... ah....I so wish I lived "down there" in the midst of all those darling sweet homes and nature. It's unusually warm here in Indy but I would love to be "there".... and in many ways I am on a daily (or more) basis because of your site... Love love love it and love you dear Kim!!
I LOVE Lily of the Valley... have my whole life...Hubs and I are HS honeys and attended our first formal dance our soph year. He asked what my fave flower was.... I told him and his mom arranged for a nosegay of, you guessed it, Lilly of the Valley. NO ONE else had them! I wore a dark green velvet dress that I made and it did look pretty with it. Of course this was in the winter time so they had to fly these flowers in just for me..and this was just a tiny burg in Indiana... I loved them of course.. I married that boy in May of '78. Lily of the Valley come up and bloom for a very short time in May...I had them in my wedding bouquet, of course...IT will be 32 yrs in a couple weeks !! Thanks and big hugs to you, Kim... Have a wonderful wonderful day...

Tracy Barkett

Hi Kim-loved this post! The weather is still changing in New England...so flowers have to wait for now. Seeing your friends beautiful gardens made me look forward to planting in my flowers boxes in the next couple of weeks. Gerber Dasies are one of my favorite espically when they are any shade of pink. I also love bells of Ireland. The color combo of pink and green is so beautiful!

Diane

Beautiful photos and Beth's house is just gorgeous. Favorite flower ~ hydrangeas.

Cute give-a-way. Sign me up.

Hi Kim, What a beautiful garden! Wishing it was as warm and sunny where I live. I like most Spring flowers, lilacs are my favorite...tulips, lily of the valley, and peonies are next.
Your blog makes me happy!

Mary Borntreger

I am definitely inspired. What a lovely home, you can tell a family loves it! My favorite flower changes like the wind. Currently I am growing Bachelor Buttons and can hardly wait for the first bloom. They are a happy reminder of my childhood gardening memories with my family. Love your blog. Thank you Google for the cottage find. Your music is some of my favorite too. I'm from the Sarasota/Bradenton area, so "Howdy beautiful neighbor".

Lynn Paterson

What a small world it is indeed. I am holding my baby dog, Lexi as I type this to you! My favorite flower is the Iris....because my Mom gave me a bunch of bulbs from her yard. She has since passed away. So every year about this time in Spring, the whole side of our house it beautifully covered w/ purple and brown iris's. Yesterday would have been her 89th birthday. In celebration of it every year I cute a huge bunch of iris's and place them in a vase in my kitchen. She would have loved that. Tomorrow is my birthday and I think I'll cut another big bunch and bring them in! Love the bird salt and pepper shakers! Thanks for doing a giveaway!

Lisa Potter

Beth's garden is just beautiful! I'm afraid if I were there I would never want to leave. You can't get any closer to heaven than a garden of God's creations! My favorite flower would have to be a Hydrangea. Being a born and bred southerner they stir memories of my grandmothers yard in Mississippi. They are full of southern charm. Please include me in your wonderful giveaway.
Blessings,
Lisa

Hey Kim! Thanks for sharing Beth's garden, it is precious!
My favorite flowers are impatiens. My Dad has a nursery called Grey Rock Nursery and he has such a magical touch with flowers. I, on the other hand, do not, but I can plant some of his impatiens and they grow. Thanks for the chance at winning all those great things!
~Lorrie

Vicky

So beautiful! Thank you for sharing and the chance at your giveaway :)... I love all flowers, but my favorite is definately Blue Hydrangeas and Peonies. To have the yard engulfed with them feels like coming home to a big happy pillow!

Rosemary

Oh my...so many choices. Like so many others, peonies, lilacs and tulips are up there for me. However, I love hydrangeas and carried them at my wedding. Lovely giveaway!

Laura

Beth certainly loves color! Her garden and porches are so cheerful! Love Charlotte's tea towel! I would have to say that lilacs are my favorite flower....lots of sweet memories associated with them....
Thank you for a chance in your give away!
Have a great afternoon.
Laura :)

Kimberly Ann L.

I love her gardens. Daisies are my favorite flower, Shasta Daisies to be precise.
Thank you for the tour. I am a new reader, and am really enjoying your blog.
Oh, by the way, my name is Kimberly Ann!!

Susan O.

Beautiful gardens and I love dahlias. They are so vibrant, colorful and gorgeous. Happy Earth day to all!

Andrea @ Big Creek Cottage

Oh what a lovely garden tour...I really enjoyed it. Choosing a favorite flower is not easy....I guess I would always choose hydrangea....or tulips...I can't pick.

Jennifer

Thank you for the tour! I just love the tea towel and other items in your giveaway. My favorite flower is paper roses. But I did not spy the lizard...

Brenda@Coffeeteabooksandme

I just came inside from planting our raised bed garden and what inspiration to view these lovely flowers. I can already see some ideas I'm going to "borrow" on my deck.

My favorite outdoor flowers are a tie between red geraniums and yellow-white daisies. I guess it is that love for yellow and red again. :)

For special occasions, my husband sends me yellow roses since that is what I carried at our wedding.

When I think of favorite flowers, I always think of the line from You've Got Mail about daisies being her favorite flower. :)

Renee

Beautiful garden. Thank her so much for sharing with us.

I can't do it I can't pick just one garden flower because I love so many. I love roses. I love the azeleas that are coloring my back yard now. I love the impatiens that brighten the shade.

Well, if I had to choose one it would have to be a rose.

Kimberly

I can only pick one? I'd have to go with tulips. Love your blog!

susan

How to pick ONE favorite? That is mighty difficult since I have so many favorites. I guess, it would have to be the hydrangia. My grandmother had them in her front yard and when I see them, it reminds me of her.

Cindy

Hi Kim,
The outside of Beth's home is just beautiful!! Her garden is gorgeous!! Oh my...the porch and the patio areas are so pretty and inviting!! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Looks to me like the little lizard is peeking at you from the side of Mr. Frog's head. Too cute!!
My favorite flower is Geraniums, but I really love Hydrangeas too.
What a wonderful giveaway...love that adorable towel!!

dotsie (aka podso)

The little fella is doing pushups on the big green frog. That makes me think Florida but the rest of the place does not have so much of a tropical look. Thanks for posting the lovely photos!

Prudence

My favorite flower is a daisy because it was my mom's favorite and she passed away fourteen years ago. But then again I LOVE peony's, I looked forward to them blooming, I love how BIG the buds get right before they bloom.

Amie

Hi Kim, beautiful pictures as always! Makes me want to wish spring here in the Northeast to speed up (even though it's been lovely weather!). My favorite flower is the hydrangea, followed by the beautiful peony, both of which grow in my garden.

Amie

PS - I spy the lizard in the frog picture ;)

Elisa

Wow - what a beautiful home and porches. SO pretty!! This definitely inspires me to get to work. It looks so magical. :)
I have 2 favorite flowers: the first is a sunflower - they are just so sunny and happy and make me smile. The second is a hydrangea.

hello,

thank you for sharing and thank you paul and beth - i like what you said the hostess with the mostest, that was cute, it made me chuckle - what a beautiful way about you and just to share this moment in time is re-freshing - and having a garden is like taking in a big breath of fresh air, so crisp and clean, and to see Gods wonders big or small it makes an impact in my life - to know people care and take the time for others is just a blessing - and kim that's what you do and others you come across do and i just want to thank you all and the bloggers that give so unselfishly. wim or not - i love you all for who you are and that comes from the bottom of my heart - maria - cottage feel xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxox oh,what flower i like is the rose it, comes and goes but, it's loyal in my garden and gives me more blooms years after year and gets more beautiful as time goes on - can't wait to read tomorrow.

I love it! It is very difficult for me to choose a favorite flower...I just LOVE flowers! At the moment, I'd say tulips, then daisies, then a jillion others.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Wonderful eye candy! Perfect inspiration for my porches at my mountain resort for summer decorating! I'm loving Sun Flowers today!

Hi Kim, Question: Does she clear everything out when there is a hurricane? That would be a tremendous job, but have been through 5 of them, I realize, you have to do that. Can't wait for your answer. You are doing a terrific service by giving us the most beautiful pictures and conversation. I love Tulips and Lilacs. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talent with us. Blessings, Janet

Hi Kim, what a lovely tour. I live in Kansas so we are just now beginning to see spring pop up and
starting to plant. I'm so excited. I love flowers but I think I would have to say I love geraniums (red) of course.
Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for your awesome blog.
Your giveaway is charming this time.

Linda Walters

I love all flowers but I think my big favorite is dahlias. They just seem to burst with color.
Strange, I just purchased two sets of the cute bird salt and pepper shakers at Pier 1 to give as gifts at a tea!
Linda W

Gail

It's obvious that you and Beth are of kindred spirits to eachother, as you both love the same color palette, of which I love by the way. Thanks for sharing your walk in her yard. I absolutely love it and will have to go back and visit again more slllooowweeer. I have a hard time chosing one favorite flower, as that all depends when and where. For instance, I love the smell of the large fresh dewy carnations of my home town SF. I love the smell of mock-orange on a warm day in Oregon. I love the hydrangas in the garden, spring, summer, and fall. Oh I can just ramble on...

CIELO

Oh yes, I see his perky head poping up on top of that gigant frog... ;) Cute Lizard... he is saying "who are you"!

Thanks for the chance to win.

Beth's place is Lovely...just wonderful.

Jennie

HI!

I have two favorite flowers. . .
when I was little I had a passion for forget-me-nots which grew EVERYWHERE in my Grammie's garden. I believed the fairies lived in them.
when I got older I fell in love with hydrangeas: the colors and the way they dry just fill me with joy!
Today I am lucky because both grow in my garden!

Sarah Friedrich

I LOVE your blog! My Mom and I discovered it the other day, when we were in the middle of a snow storm. My favorite flower is either a Shasta Daisy ( really, really) or a Sunflower. I hope God blesse the rest of your week! :)

Susan G

I LOVE gerbera daisies - I bought some the other day and took FOREVER to pick out the color.

Thanks for all the gorgeous pictures!

Mona

I absolutely love the tea towel! I saw it on Charlotte's blog and wanted to get one. I hope I win!!! My favorite flower is still the rose. Mona

Kate

I have to say, my favorite flower is any that will bloom in my neglected flower beds...I'm excited to see the lily of the valley bells, iris' soon to bloom, some lilies, and peonies. this has been a lovely post, thanks for sharing!

Esther Sunday

Anything that stands up to my black thumb!!!!

I have fallen in love Beth's home and may consider leaving Artie for it. Sam Elliott, no, but Beth's home - yes.

Sue

Kim, In Michigan the weather is so cold for so long when I see the daffodil poke its pretty little head out I know the weather is going to start getting warmer and it makes me happy. I love the hyacinth for its color and smell. The lilac tree I had when my kids were growing up I though was a goner for sure when my dog chewed it down to a nubby core, but it just brought it back to become even larger and more beautiful. So that's it, daffodils, hyacinths and lilacs. With all the other posts I kept thinking "oh yeah, I LOVE that one" but I had to narrow it down to just a few. By the way, I love yellow and red, is your entire cottage -your office, yellow for the wall colors? LOVE your blog.

sarita

i don't think i can pick just ONE flower as my favorite. everyone is special and has something about it to like. thank you for the chance to win something of yours.

Danielle

Crossing my fingers for this one! My favorite flowers are gerberas or "gerber daisies." I love that they are friendly like daisies, but also colorful and interesting (kind of like me!). I spotted that lizard and the wasp too (I am a Florida girl and know just where to look ;)

Stephanie

Kim, Your blog is the first I go to everyday. You give all of us a hug with your sweet words.I love all flowers but I think one of my very favorites is the Daisy. It has a friendly simple looking face! Thanks for showing us Beth's place...I love the porch!! Kisses to Maggie!

Stephanie

Sylvia

My favorite flower - let's see, rose, ranunculus, hyrdrangea, daisie, peonies, .... I LOVE all flowers !!! Can't get enough of them.
Love your blog, and this giveaway,
Sylvia

Blondecarol

What a thought provoking question! As I try to decide, I realize that as I think of every person dear to me, a certain flower comes to mind. A rose for mom, her favorite.
Tulips and hydrangeas for my grandmothers. As for me, nothing I ever planted did well until I tried the Gerber Daisy. They are so bright and pretty. I guess I love them best beacuse they loved me in return.
Blessings to you Kim for loving us and sharing your joy.

Sami Melton

Kimberly Padilla

Hi Kim. You are right. The house and garden are just lovely - very beautiful and peaceful. I will have to agree that it is a small world, as well. I am from Tennessee, and had an internet friend from New York. A few years I moved to New York (about an hour or so from her home). We kept in touch briefly, but not too much and finally lost touch. One day my doctor ordered an ultrasound done and lo and behold, she was the ultrasound technician that did the test. You can imagine the excitement that went on in that imaging clinic that day. Thank you for sharing your beautiful friendship. As to my favorite flower - I just have to say a bouquet of wildflowers - daisies included! :)

P.S. I thank you for visiting my blog and becoming a follower. I admire you so greatly and have been following you about a year now (though it took me some time to build up the courage to start commenting), and it's an honor to know that you are also that interested in me. I am apart from my husband right now (as I had to travel back to Tennessee for my dad's funeral) and told him (he is a fan of yours too) on the phone last night that you had actually become a follower of my blog. That made him so happy.

Love,
Kimberly ♥

Lilacs! and Irises!

My favorite flower is a carnation. I love flowers and I love your blog :)

What a sweet giveaway! Although I love all flowers I especially love roses (pink being my favorite). xoxo

I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
