Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

I'll bet it's something wonderful. Your little dollhouse is coming along nicely. Mimi

Oh, that is way too cute! You know, I love the miniatures! :)

So, what's in the box? ;)

what a sweet little candy heart and little gift box and......
have a great weekend.

Mr. Dollhouse gave her his heart...

Nancy Hutson Maisenbach

So, so cute and so you Kim! But of course it is you because you created every nook and cranny. I have been wondering about your miniature Daisy Cottage. Thanks for sharing it with us. Reminds me of a favorite Golden book. The one where Chip and Dale help themselves to Donald Duck's miniature railroad and village. I have not thought about that in ages.

I Love your dollhouse! and that adorable tiny spoon!!!

What a sweet little lollipop, and adorable dollhouse! I'll bet he gave her . . . something she had her heart set on!

It's like a mini Daisy Cottage. It's just the sweetest wee place I've ever seen.

Love your little dollhouse! Your tiny apron is so cute!

Kathleen Grace

This is the cutest doll house EVAH! I love every teeny detail:>)

The itty bittiness is so adorable. I love the crochet items. Do you think there are teeny tiny little chocolates in that bitty box?

Everything is so sweet, Kim!

Jolie Anne

Hi Kim,

Adorable as usual! I love your dollhouse.
I have been wondering how you find the time
to even have a dollhouse but it is such a wonderful way to create things for all of us to look at and enjoy!
I have been wondering what all the other readers of your blog have been reading?..Can you tell us what YOU have been reading in between writing and creating? I am always
reading and looking for good decorating books to read and look at the beautiful photos. Of course, I have Tara's blog book and loved that one! I find that HomeGoods is a nice resource for decorating books at times. The obvious resource is Barnes & Noble but I am lucky to find books at thrifts sometimes, too.
What are you reading, KIm?
Thanks, JolieAnne

Kim Nichols

Hi Kim, you have the cutest and most colorful blog. I have been reading your blog for some time, but I don't always comment. That is going to change. I started a blog recently and have so much to learn. I hope I can make people smile like we do when we look at yours. The little dollhouse with the story made me laugh. What a creative person you are. Thanks so much for sharing and making me smile...Kim

There's a dutch song about someone that wants to put his loved one in a tiny box. Only to keep her save. I know, it might sound a bit strange, but isn't it what we all want: to keep our loved ones save?!
Love, Nina.

Mrs. Dollhouse is one lucky gal! Best dollhouse ever!

Pamm Muzslay

OMG! This is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Please keep us updated on the ongoing lives of Mr. and Mrs. We-have-the-most-precious-little-house-in-the-world Dollhouse!

Amazing. Just absolutely amazing. If we didn't know better, we'd think these were pics of perfectly decorated home!! Amazing all the things you've found to decorate your doll house with!!

The Pleasures of Homemaking

So adorable! You must be having lots of fun with that dollhouse!

Jennifer D

Oh this is so much fun! I have got to get a dollhouse.
I think Mr. D got Mrs. D a new camera. That is what she really wanted.;-)

I so love your blog. I love your dogs, especially Miss Maggie the princess... I love your dollhouse saga. It's fun, and it is delightful just sensing the thrill you get out of it. You know Jayme over at Tales from the CoopKeeper is also getting us involved with her dollhouse renovation and makeover. It's ALL fun. My sister and I had a dollhouse when we were young (yet old enough to treat it well). My dad had converted an old TV cabinet for us. It had three floors. My great aunt ( an "old maid" doctor) absolutely spoiled us sending us beautiful little things for that dollhouse...when she heard about it. WE so loved getting those boxes with trinkets in it. Glass lamps, silver services, velvet chairs , kitchen goods.. oh me oh my. What fun.... So, I do really wonder ....WHAT did Mr. dollhouse get Mrs. dollhouse??? hmmmmmm... lovin' the little lollipop. have a fun-filled weekend.

I think it's a box of sweet hankies ;)

I love your new painting. I don't think a signature is important either. I love what I love, no matter how "important" something is.

Enjoy your weekend sweet friend!

love you,

Kathleen Gauthier

That is the most darling doll house I've ever seen. I have always loved red and yellow...maybe because those colors evoke happiness in me. I adore your style. This post makes me want to buy myself a doll house!

Catching up on posts Kim! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your bathroom and the dollhouse!! Wow! I am inspired to get busy on mine.....but sadly...just not enough time. One day......thankfully the house just sits and waits..........

Everytime you post one of these "Dollhouse" post, I just about swoon. I always wanted a dollhouse when I was a kid...didn't happen. When my daughter was little she just wasn't interested, although we did get her the leggo one and had lots of fun building it. I know I will get myself one, one of these days but until then I'm thoroughly enjoying yours! It makes me more and more determined to fulfill my own little dream! Bless you!

Kelly McMaster

Oh how I adore your little doll house and all the precious bits inside! I think it's a box of caramels and nutty chocolates!xo

Cutest post EVER, Kim! And sweet as that heart lollipop!

Sheila :-)

Nancy Omachi

All I can say is.....ahhhhh, so sweet!

Hi, Kim,
Oh,me, Oh,my!I will be on pins and needles til the Valentine surprise is opened!

Kate Reddan

You make me feel so young and silly!!! I love being silly. I think Mr. D gave Mrs. D the moon. Isn't that what Jimmy Stewart told Donna Reed in the movie-It's A wonderful Life,- "Do you want the moon Mary, Why, I'll give you the moon if you want it."
Love that little Daisy Cottage and the big one too!
Love you!!

The Tablescaper

So sweet!

Just wondering.....Do Mr. and Mrs. Dollhouse have children? I volunteer! I would make a wonderful little Miss Dollhouse. Would you please inquire? Then, I could be your neighbor! What fun we could have! love you and your curious, wonderful nature.

Lynn Cliburn

CUTE!!!I LOVE your little dollhouse, too!
Sweet story, Miss Kim♥
Maybe it's a little pair of red slippers???Lol~~

You are too much Miss Kim. I told my husband I need a dollhouse but I think he was kidding. Do you make all your tiny stuff or just find it different places.
Hugs, Mary

Daisy Cottage

Thank you EVERYONE!

This is even MORE fun because I get to share it with you..

Dear Mary, I made the little curtains and the bath towels. I painted the house inside and out (still need to do the floors) and painted most of the furniture and fireplaces. I use doilies for rugs. I made the wainscoting for the bathroom out of little craft sticks. Some of the tiny stuff has been found at Goodwill, thrift stores, and yard sales. I've also received little treasures from many of you and those are my favorites! I treat the dollhouse to little lovelies from Etsy and Ebay every now and then too. Stay tuned for my latest Etsy treasure from one of our DDC family members soon...

Hi Kim

I'm guessing it's a gold heart-shaped pendant and chain.

I just don't know how much longer I can hold out before I HAVE to have a dollhouse, Kim. This is so cute!

Oh I'll bet it is a copy of "Little Women" because he knows it is one of her all time favorite reads. Sigh....I just love your dollhouse decor Kim. It's as sweet as you.

Oh, Kim! I missed a couple of days and boy, o boy have you been busy! I just love your dollhouse! I had one when I was a girl. My father built it and my mother painted, papered and carpeted it. Then Mum helped me collect and sew and make and fill it. I think of it lots and wish I had kept it. Why are we in such a hurry when we grow up? Don't we know we'll just come full circle and cherish everything we try so hard to leave behind?
Beautiful post, Kim! Thanks.

A box of minature chocolates - I'm sure!

OH!!!! It's a cliff hanger!!! adorable. You are very creative :)

Something small and sweet I'm sure!
This SO reminds me of a mouse house I did for our daughter!
It's a wee bit of heaven...

I think Mr. Dollhouse got Mrs. Dollhouse a pretty red and white polka dot sweater to wear. He knows how she likes polka dots.

Photos of your dollhouse always make me so envious. If I had one (Oh, and I will!) I would play. And life should include some play, don't you think?

That is too cute!

D. @ Outside Oslo

Too adorable! I love how a dollhouse makes an imagination spring alive. Thanks for letting all of us live vicariously through your dollhouse adventures!

Patty Boyd

I adore the apron!

I love your dollhouse more than words can say and i think about it more than an adult should.

I want one, and it will never happen.

LOVE your pics of it, every time I giggle like a little girl.

Thanks, Kim, for keeping me in touch with my itty bitty side.

Jayme/The Coop Keeper

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "Oh my! I have just stepped into heaven. A nostalgic, magic, getaway place where folk love one another and life is sweet. Kim, you will probably never know just how many hearts you have touched with your site. " ~ Francesca

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "What I love best about Daisy Cottage is Kim. I love the way you appreciate every good thing in life and embrace joy in every moment." ~ Rose

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank you Joy!

  • "Your blog has helped me start to see the beauty in life again." ~ Joy

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Tracy!

  • "Your words and thoughts of encouragement help me see myself with value. You are a blessing. Thank you." ~ Tracy

Thank you Karen!

  • "Your humble spirit has not changed through your many posts here in Blogland. You have been blessed with a special gift and I am very thankful you share it with us." ~ Karen

Thank You Betty Jo!

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
