I am so happy that many of you have found your color. I am so happy that you are coloring your world with what makes YOU happy. So so so so so happy.
I would like to think that this crochet blanket is happy now too.
My sister and I went yard saling yesterday and we luckily stumbled upon several awesome ones. I found a few paintings for our stairwell, a few vintage ceramic roosters for the kitchen, a shabby pink clothes hanger with the cutest pom-pom, AND a blanket.
The blanket was at a very sad, neglected house. A slightly built man, who seemed to be intoxicated at 9:30 in the morning, was yelling obscenities at his wife as she placed the yard sale sign on their lawn. The wife was scattered and seemed somehow detached from her surroundings. The sale was being held in their back garage which was dark, clammy, and somewhat scary. There were old pieces of furniture, glassware, and other things, but I really couldn't focus on any of them as I simply felt sad for their situation and humbled by what I know so many unfortunately seem to endure.
But then I saw this sweet sweet blanket that had been carefully spread out on an old vinyl couch that was piled high with drab things that were also for sale. I asked the lady how much she wanted for it and she told me $5. Between my sister and I, we had $5 left in our coin purses and I paid her the money while her eyes never looked at mine. She quietly took it and said thank you.
I walked away with the blanket folded under my arm, noting its' happy colors and innocent pattern and wondered about its' story, as I always do with the treasures that I bring home.
But this one is different. After I washed it and let it dry in our gorgeous fresh air, and as I placed it on my favorite chair, I thought about the house that it came from and the man and the lady.
And I will remember them every time I glance the blanket's way. And I will hope that the man and the lady are doing okay.
Love,
Kim
