I don't know about you but my mind never seems to stop. It has always been that way, ever since I can remember. It races, it wanders, it drifts, and it ponders.
I can't even see a little weathered penny without thinking ...
Where has it been? Who has held it in their hand? And how did it come to be - here, with me?
And as I take the time to REALLY look at this penny, I can see that life has indeed weathered this once perfectly round and shiny copper token with its' teeny tiny value, as life tends to do to all things and to those of us with heartbeats too.
But you know, this one penny DOES have value, especially on its own. Every little mark and every little flaw makes it unique. There is not ONE other penny in the whole wide world that looks like this little penny. It is amazingly beautiful - like a work of art.
Like you and me.
And now I want to protect it and keep it with me.
Time has been this penny's friend. It has given it character and depth. It has transformed the penny into a most exquisite thing. No matter its' past and no matter that it probably spent much of its' life being used, discarded and forgotten - it is still here as a symbol to gently remind us...
We ARE worthy. We ARE beautiful. We ARE strong. We WILL survive.
So I am going to keep this penny on my desk in honor of all of us. May we always remember OUR value and how precious each of us truly are.
I love you little penny.
And I love YOU too.
Kim
we love you too Miss Kim! -Sarahlynn

Odd to think of all the places that little penny has traveled. Could have been all over the country and then some. And it found its way to you, who not only took notice of its mere existence. But gave it a rightful place of honor. You are special, Kim.

I love postings, "musings" like this. You have the gift of seeing things beyond their surface. Oh how I wish others would recognize we all have that gift and put it into practice. There is so much beyond the surface of all that we see. Thank you for such a wonderful post. Sea Witch

Thank you for re framing my mindset - small coins bouncing around in my pocket usually irritate me, now I will appreciate them for being little pieces of history instead of just annoying monetary objects. Cool boots.

Oh Kim,
What a beautiful post! My hubby thinks I am crazy because I save pennies. My Daddy always saved them and every time I save one I think of him. I have three large vases - one in the living room, one in the dining room and one upstairs and all are filled.
I want to thank you so much for being my FIRST FOLLOWER! When I noticed it last night I got so excited. I haven't set any of my favorites to follow yet. I'm waiting for my hubby to help me with a photo to use. Thanks for making my day!

You have such a beautiful soul and way of looking at things. I have always said that when you find a penny, it is from an angel looking after you. An angel was looking after you that day!

That was so nice...I too enjoy thinking about where and when an old coin was used, where it's been. I save them when I find them, and keep a really old one (my birth year -ha!)in my coin purse for luck.
Loooove those red boots, how fun are they?!!
It's so great to come visiting here. Hope you can stop by sometime, too.

I love these thoughts. I always pick up pennies and this morning my hubby was out and about and when he came in, he had a found penny for me. I call them my lucky pennies and keep them in a special place. Silly but fun.

Thank you. My neighbor and I were walking back from a meeting and found a penny. She says, 'a found penny is a reminder that God is watching over you.' i had never heard that before. Amazing what we all grow up with. God is watching over you Kim. Blessings, Janet

I love your sweet heart and the way you think and feel and how you express it...and that you pass on the joy to all of us who love you.
My son doesn't like pennies so he literally drops them once he's outside a store or restaurant. He says he has made two people happy...him for getting rid of them and the person who finds them! LOL
Hugs!

I cannot agree more ...we all have value no matter our past or where we have been or what we have done. The Name on that precious penny tells us so in Matthew 3:16
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.
Kim you are sooo talented! Thank you for sharing your many gifts.

How beautifully written and on a day I needed to hear it! Tell us MORE about those red boots, please!
Posted by: Leigh | November 17, 2009 at 05:26 PM
Two thoughts on this lovely post:
- The face of every penny says "In God We Trust," so whenever I see a penny on the ground, I choose to believe that it's God reminding me of his presence and to always trust in His path for my life. I've been unemployed for 7.5 months and see a penny regularly on my daily walks and I'm reminded that In God I Trust.
- In the spirit of Oneness in this world, it's interesting to think of how we're all interconnected. The very air we breathe has also been breathed by billions of others, even Buddha, Christ, and all the saints and holy figures throughout time. That penny has probably been through the hands of people who are happy, sad, struggling, joyful - we are all connected.

Your post reminded me of the time I was chatting with a friend who had just lost her husband and out of no where a penny fell to the floor. We knew it was him telling her everything would be alright. Pennies do fall from heaven. I would like to think that.
Bless you.

Ah, you are just too sweet sometimes. I love your way of seeing life and the living. I was looking at a few gray hairs today and thinking how I deserve those, after nearly 52 years, they say that I am surviving, living, breathing...still. Thanks for the precious reminder of our value, today. Hugs, Cindy S.

When I see a penny I pick it up, to honor the Holy name of God.
No place else on the earth I think,(could be wrong) has the name of God on all the currency-- the name to be trusted for Saving Grace.

ps my mom would love your boots. She has a pair and that is ALL she ever wears, on her feet. Everyday.

Hi Kim,
Oh how I love your insight, I find myself doing the very same things. Nothing is insignificant and we all do matter and usually it is the smallest things that can make the biggest impact on us.
"In God We Trust" ~4 words that have such a powerful impact when acted on.
Love the Boots and the shawl (of course:) is that mohair? Gorgeous!
Blessing and Hugs,
