Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

A sweet friend referred me to your blog. I'm now an official fan :) I was looking at one house tour when another one (Cindy's) was posted. I am still visually disecting each photo. Your tours are like a comfy magazine TIMES TEN! You give the interior decorator in all of us just what we, pictures and more pictures! Who needs a magazine subscription when we have your blog! I need to get back to my disecting...and then I've got to check out your archives AND links....Whew! I'm gonna be a busy gal! <3 Thanks!!

* Your Cindy has, without a doubt, the most warm, welcoming, inviting, charming, comfy, creative, TRULY PERSONALIZED & FULL OF LOVE, HOPE & JOY home I've seen in a long, long time... And her love of home and family is evident everywhere, without being "mushy"!!!

WOW...Cindy's house is truly a feast for the eyes! It's exquisite & styled so perfectly. Kim, your photos are fabulous, as usual. This post should definitely be in a magazine, or, as I've said YOUR book!

Julia @ Drawn to the Sea

Mercy. I'd love to have some fireplace birds like that. What a comfortable home :-)

Happiness reigns in Cindy's house! ~xo~ Janet

Good Morning! First, I have to tell you that your photography is so superb when you do these shoots for us. You really capture the feel of each room. :) And . . . .I LOVE Cindy's home. It seems so warm and cozy and she has a few pieces that I would die for!!! :) Is that a crate she's using in the kitchen with the bowls? Love how it's so simple but charming. It's put together so well but not in a matchy designer way but like she's loved everything for years. Just like your home. Can I have the chair next? :) You have a very talented group of friends ~ thanks for sharing!

Another beautiful home. You must live in the happiest neighborhood, bright and cheerful colors everywhere.

I love this home and I don't think I need to explain to you why. I'm sure you aren't surprised.:-)

All the rooms are gorgeous. But I particularly love the office. Oh My Goodness!! And that ottoman! WOW! And of course, I absolutely love the mantel geese/swans! No surprise there, either.

Thanks to Cindy for opening her home and thank you, Kim, for sharing it here.

Wonderful photos of a beautiful home! Thanks to you and Cindy for sharing it with us.

Cindy's home is just darling! One of my favorite things is her bathroom sink. I have never seen one like that. Gosh if Cindy were my friend, I would just sit on her front porch swing for hours and enjoy that beautiful home. Thanks Cindy for sharing with us. I can certainly tell you have put your heart into your home.

She has indeed a lovely home! And i like that chair passing through all of you. That is such a sweet thing! Hope you have a great day Kim:)

Janet Caldwell

Borrow away girlfriends!!!

That's what it is ALL about - inspiring and helping each other and then creating our own nests with OUR heart and spirit!!

Very cute house. They are so inspirational. Keep em coming.

Another winner Kim!! You have the best friends with the absolutely best houses. I still think you should publish a book with your house, your sister's house and your friends' houses. It would certainly be a best seller!

Your friends have the loveliest homes Kim! What a wonderful tour ~ Thank you.

love it! the house is down here in florida and like your house doesn't look like the typical florida home! so many of the homes down here have the condo look. all of the homes that you show and especially your's have the special inviting look that makes you feel like home even if you are miles away. thanks for sharing so much with us!

Lavender Dreams

I can't even begin to mention everything that I saw that I like! But....when can I move in? Her house is simply lovely. I am always trying to figure out how to display things and have them look so neat and orderly. I have 3 really worn out quilts that I have been trying to decide what to do with and now I think I will fold them and stack them! That's only one great idea I can use! Thank you! Wish I was close enough to hug all the wonderful ladies that are showing their homes to us! HUGS to YOU and ALL of them!

The Pleasures of Homemaking

"Happinest" I love that! Cindy has such a pretty home. It feels so warm and welcoming even in photographs! So in real life it really must be cozy and inviting!!

I love the colors she used throughout her home and it was sooo nice to see a small bathroom that looked stylish and pretty! I couldn't get a double sink in any of my bathrooms unless I got rid of a tub or shower!

Thanks for tours! I'm really enjoying them! Your photography is fabulous!

Mary Ann holmes

wow!! What a wonderful way to start my day!!! Another beautiful home in a wonderful town. We lived in Lakeland on the lake by the library when my husband and I were first married and then again when ours girls were young and we loved it. Lakeland is still my favorite place! Mary Ann

I wish you girls lived closer to WV and could help me decorate my living/dining area!

Yay, another home tour! So many wonderful details--I didn't want to miss anything. Cindy had me at the front porch, but her home was a treat throughout. Thanks for showing us around!

Thank you for sharing such a beautiful home, really a home sweet home.

Thanks, another colorful home--it brings smiles to my face!

What is it with you gals in Florida? It must be something in the water. You all have such wonderfully amazing homes. Not too "froo froo", just incredibly beautiful but liveable. Cindy's home is no exception. Just lovely. And the green bead board in the kitchen! I'm drooling here! Can't wait till the next house tour. Keep 'em coming!

black eyed susans kitchen

Kim, That was one of my favorite house tours. Cindy's home is full of comfort, and things that delight the eye. I especially loved the calm yet happy colors the house is decorated with, and then you go out what I am guessing is the back door and bam...bright, happy in your face colors...I just love it! Pat on the back to you for taking such wonderful pictures.
♥, Susan

thank you cindy for opening your house to us. thank you Kim for the lovely pictures that you took..

Happinest is so full of character! Thank you for the wonderful tour! I hope you don't mind that I will be returning when I have more time to savor the beautiful pictures again!

Hello Sweet Kim & Cindy, too!

Charming, charming and oh so charming!
Watch out! By showing these fabulous homes in your neighborhood, you might cause that town to double in size.

Thank you for sharing such a special home.

Hi Kim
Thanks for showing us another beautiful house. Oh how I would love to live in a neighborhood of old houses with front porches
That is fun how you trade things in your homes. My mother and sister and I used to do that too!
Hope you have a great day today!!
((hugs)) Rhondi

And thank Cindy for letting us have a peak into her lovely home!

Odette Bragg

I love that little swing arm wall lamp in the living room. Would you please ask Cindy where she got it?

Thanks for the wonderful pictures. I got many good ideas for my own home!

Such a warm and comfy home; thank you for sharing it. I love the paint colors - would Cindy share the names and where to buy them?

Simply devine.....the red poppy painting in her bedroom and how she carried out the poppies by her dad's Navy photo...I also have a similiar photo of my dad in his Navy uniform. Thanks for sharing with us!

Thanks for sharing this with us.

oH WOW!! Loved it... another cottage full of black and white... and I love it.. I could move right in! Hugs and happy day to ya!

I love all the details in this darling house. A Home created with love. I love her office and I love the fabric that her red couch is made of. I used that Fabric to make my kitchen curtains, that's where my husband made me stop ....I could have gone on....and on... Anyway, thanks for the tours.

Cindy's home is beautiful! Thank you Kim (and Cindy)!

Nancy Hutson Maisenbach

Cindy your home is lovely. Thank you for the tour! The office walls proves that brown can be very warm. What a glorious feast for the eyes. I love the simple dressed up look. For instance that little stool with the lacy doily on it.
I love the master. The bed looks so pretty with the window treatment behind it.
The picnic basket stack is so cleaver and effective.
Love the old photos and toys scattered about.
I could write a book but you get the idea. I love your home!

Thanks for letting us visit Cindy! A beautiful home. I have to say though that my favorite was the guest room. I LOVE that room!

You know I just love it, but I admit I am a bit biased! Thanks for your friendship to mom. You are very special to her and this has lifted her spirits in stressful times..

That was fun! So many pretty rooms!

Julie (from mid-lifemama previously)

Thanks so much for inviting me in! What a divine home to have. An absolute dream. I truly enjoyed my visit.

Wow!! Thank you Cindy for sharing your lovely home. I adore the black & white and red color decor, its beautiful and elegant. You named it appropriately... Happinest :)

The office drapes and bathroom shower curtain are divine as well as your lovely china. I haven't seen an ALL laundry pail for many years. If I had to pick a favorite room, possibly the office but every room is decorated with welcoming warmth and lots of love.

And, thank you Kim for taking us along and sharing your wonderful photos.

I already left a comment on Cindy's beautiful home but I need to know . . . how do all you ladies hide your tv's? I wish I had a seperate room for the television but I don't and it's in the living room right when you walk in the front door. I do have an armoire but maybe you all have a different idea? Kim, is yours in the granny room?

You have the loveliest comments -- because you have the 'eye' and the 'skill' to be a professional photographer. I've noticed that your photo's play up the best everywhere you go. You are the best advertising (for a business) they have. . . you should consider. . . I loved the tour, thank you so much and thank Cindy for sharing too. Blessings, Janet

Daisy Cottage

Good Morning!

Yes Sarah, it is in the granny room - and it needs a cabinet!! Hubby wants to build one - that is on our to-do list. For now, it sits on a low table.

Thank you Jan!!! What a generous compliment! ((((hugs))))

Okay, back to chores!

~ Wendy

Cindy's home is gorgeous! Just like you, I love all of her rooms. Every one of them looks so cozy and inviting.

Mary Lou

Hi, Kim! I am sitting here with a nice cup of tea. I just finished sanding the walls in our family room in preparation for painting this weekend. I am dog tired (don't tell Maggie, though!), and thought, "I know what to do - visit Daisy Cottage!"
Cindy's home is beautiful! I think my favorite is the lady's office, but gee, it's really hard to pick a favorite. You did such a nice job photographing it, too. That is so nice of Cindy to open her home for us. Thanks to both of you.
Mary Lou

Good morning Kim :)

I finally had time to sit and visit you! What a beautiful home Cindy has! The details are amazing and I love how she makes every corner feel cozy :)

Can you ask her where she purchased her wooden (?) geese? I've been looking for one and haven't had any luck. Thank you for sharing her home and Cindy for letting you :)

What a beautiful home made by a beautiful woman!
love ya

cindy h @ Happinest

I could have the wooden swans everywhere as they are one of the reasons I moved by the lake here.
The swan in the study was found in an antique shop in Ohio
The swan in the dining room is handcarved driftwood and I bought it at the big Antique Extravaganza in Mt Dora
The swan in the guest room is from Home Goods. They had many different ones when I was there last week.Really had to pry myself away from that section.
Thanks for visiting!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands.
