Yes you can have a dollhouse even though you are a grown up.
Yes you can put your dollhouse WHEREVER you want to put it.
Even in the dining room. ;-)
Remember, you CAN do anything that you want with your house.
It is YOUR house.
Try to throw the rules out the window. It is SO much fun to play house that way. Whether you long to surround yourself with simplicity, serenity, sophistication, or quirky juxtaposition - you CAN do it.
Serenade your house to your hearts' content.
If you love your house it will love YOU back.
Speaking of loving a house...
I LOVE this little glittery house that Mandy SO SWEETLY gifted and made for me!
It is precious! Thank you Mandy VERY much!
I hope you have a beautiful day and remember ...
YES YOU CAN!
Love,
Kim
I always promised myself that when my sons grew up and moved away :-( I would set up a doll house......of course I never did, but seeing yours makes me think about it again. Love your blog and your dog.....thanks for all the ideas and fabulous photos.

I applaud to that! Decorating Should's out the window. But I do think that doll house much like bird houses are actually quite fashionable as home decor!

I am in awe.
Thanks for all the inspiration.

I love how it looks like your house, that is so fun! I think I might have to start looking for furniture and have my hubby build me a house!

Good Morning Kim,
Thank you for reminding us to express ourselves, to explore, to create and to enjoy our homes. Also thanks for inspiring us to see unlimited possibilities. I will be keeping my eyes open for inspiration.

Hi Kim :)
Oh how I want a doll house! I always coveted my best friend's that opened at the top and had real lights.
Your dollhouse is perfectly you and perfect for Daisy Cottage. I think the new family that lives there will be as happy as you are in your home. How could they not be?
Love YOU too,
rue

Thanks for posting this. I needed the encouragement. It is so easy to slip into making your loves bend to fit with what everyone else is doing until you don't even recognize your own space anymore.

Hi Kim! I read your post last night and I just love the little shots of your neighborhood. Can I be your neighbor? It looks so charming. Good job on your dollhouse. It definitely has your daisy cottage flair. I love your little upholstered chairs. You'll have to let us know when you find a nice family. I can't seem to locate cute families for my daughters dollhouse. They all look a little strange to me. Anyways hope you have a lovely day, thanks for always making ours nicer. :)

Every lady needs a doll house (in my opinion too!). Your posts always make me smile, Kim. Have a lovely day and give Maggie a kiss from me and Zeke.

Thank you so much for the motivation! I try and tell myself these things every day. When people come over, they act like my house is "weird" "Why can't it just be simple?" some ask. Because I'm not simple! My home is a reflection of my mind and soul and it makes me happy! Simple is boring.

Mandy's little house is adorable, Kim, and so is Daisy Cottage II. I love it right where it is, but if it wanted to move to the LR, I'd love it there, too, or on the porch for a day! ;-)

Sheila :-)

Hmmm, what a concept...I can play house any way that I want. I'll give it some thought. I'm already trying your advice for puttering and cleaning..."I get to do" not "I have to do." It's so much better that way!

Thanks Kim....I really needed this post and the one with your sisters home. SOOO inspiring! I'm a very quirky all over the place decorator....but somehow with so much HGTV I got lost along the way. I started questioning myself and rethinking my every move. Thank you for helping me realize I need to be me :) I have pixies and fairies flying in the powder room.....i really like it that way :) xo

Thanks so much for this post, Kim. I really need to remember this. As I am in the midst of a major design shift, I have started what I term my "Happy" files - both notebook and computer. I clip things that make me smile and am keeping them to evaluate what I really like now, and how I can re-do some of my existing things. I copied your "Let Your Home Be Your Heart", and have it front and center in my notebook! Your blog has certainly been an inspiration to me. Thanks!

Such a sweet post, Kim, I am trying to decorate my little cottage the way that I like it, but the lack of funds keeps getting in the way. But, it is coming along! Hugs ~cindy s~

Yes, we should celebrate our differences and not conform to "rules" in our decor. Love and fun and personal style should influence our decorating, not a magazine or blog or show. I love that you're having such fun with that wonderful, magical dollhose!

Hi Kim,
Oh gosh, I love your doll house. You and "Cherry Hill Cottage" have inspired me to put touches of red in my home. Red was my favorite color as a little girl. Many years ago I even had my Dad tile my girlhood bedroom floor in red and white tiles. As the years went by I started to favor blue and white. But I have always loved red. I, too, never had a doll house and have always wanted one. I sort of stopped thinking of one - thinking it would take up too much space...but now maybe I will rethink of the possibility of decorating one someday.
I had a very nice day today (thank you for asking!) even though it is humid here in NE PA. I bought the materials to make a Wedding Cake centerpiece out of white towels, white roses and blue ribbon (check out the blog "A Little Loveliness" which inspired me) for my niece's bridal shower in August. It turned out nice and I can't believe I did it. Even my hubby said it looked nice. Love, love, love your blog and dear Ms. Maggie!!!!

Oh Kim! I love your dollhouse! Years ago I lived across the street from the sweetest cottage and in the window was a dollhouse that matched the exterior. I always thought that was the most creative idea :) Aren't they fun? I adore all of the tiny furniture.

I believe in whimsey, it's one of the reasons everyone loves Daisy Cottage! I always thought I was a bit strange with my painted chairs and teapot lamps, I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole commmunity of other women who shop the side of the road , paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsey and fun.. What a relief! We aren't alone, I'M not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim:>)

You know what!? This is probably the single most amazing post I have ever read. Thank you. I needed this.

I adore it! I always play with my daughter's dollshouse (which is a massive Victorian terrace in pink and takes up half our loungeroom whilst we are decorating. I have often thought how dollshouses look wonderful in any room. You are an inspiration the way you have done yours however. Hats off to you, Kim! A brilliant job! (When are you going to put a Daisy Cottage book out! It would be wonderful to have projects like this in hard copy to sigh over.) What a terrific thing to pass along to your children and then theirs. xx

What a beautiful blog. Your music reminds me of my grandmother, it was her favorite song. I just finished reconstructing my childhood dollhouse for my girls. I wanted to finish it for them, since I never got to play with it. I find it magical and a true treasure. Thanks for your post!
