I still love my knitty things ...
And I still love my green table ...
And I still love my green mirror ...
And I still love my orange lampshade and needlepoint pillows ...
And I still love my floral paintings ...
BUT the sofa in the granny room has to go. The time has come and its' little life here at Daisy Cottage is, I'm afraid, done.
There are rumblings that it isn't comfortable - actually I've heard through the grapevine that it is VERY uncomfortable and some even say that it is quite UGLY, right Shannon?
;-)
So I am on a mission to find a thrift store sofa that is comfy AND granny-cute. That shouldn't be too hard to find, right?
Wish me luck! ;-)
Love,
Kim
I'm so jealous of your beautiful home! I've been by here before, but it's been a while. Love Miss Maggie, too. We recently got a Dachshund! So far, she is fitting in so well with our family - with the exception of Mini, our Chihuahua.
I scored a gorgeous pink semi-circular sofa (for free) a while back, and am trying so hard to hang onto it. I'm really bad at figuring out how to place furniture in our awkward space.

Hey Kim!! SO neat to run into you in the coffee shop!! What an awesome "coincidence"!
A "granny" room! Now that's a new one for me... but something tells me you pull it off with real style! :)
Good luck on your quest!
Take care, friend!

My grandma had a sofa made from the same fabric as your chairs in the living room. Maybe you'll find that on your hunt :).

Hi Kim,
I wanted to let you know how much you have inspied me the past couple day. My Dh is very ill and has been in and out of the hospital for the past 3 months. On one of his stay he had major surgey. He can never be cured so we are trying to adjust to a new normal. Yesterday I needed to get away from doctors, hospitals and medical test and just feel some sense of being normal. I came to your beautiful blog and oh my goodness I feel so refreshed. I spent yesterday afternoon and this morning spurcing up Turtle Cottage. I had so much fun moving things around and playing house. The Cottage no longer looks like a Mash Unit.LOL When I get to bring my dh home he will be so surprise to see all the changes. You and I are kindred spirits. Our taste is so much a like.I have so enjoyed your magazine articles and Fifi is so wonderful too.Thank you for being there when I needed a lift.
Blessings,
Elizabeth

Kim how funny on the sofa because I actually think my grandmother had one just like your's except it was covered in vinyl or plastic, whatever covered it you stuck to it every time you sat on it...boy does that bring back childhood memories.

Hi Miss Maggie,
I have so enjoyed my mommy reading to me about you and seeing your pictures. You have your mommy trained so well like I do. I lay on back and wave my paws at my mommy too till she picks me up. It is so wonderful to a sucker for a mommy isn't it.LOL When you have time stop over at our Cottage and visit me.
Love,

Good luck on your quest. I know you will find just the right one for you little cottage. The hunt is so much fun and then that moment of "yes, yes yes when you find it. I have a sofa and love seat that are comfortable but I hate the color, and yes I picked them out. I think my body and mind was somewhere else when I made this selection, but I am going to be living with them for quite a while. Happy hunting.

Kim - I wish you the very best of luck. I seem to have the same situation at my house and yet have been able to find something. I am moving toward recovering what I already have - at least I would learn something new that way. I will be watching for your success! ~Kelly

Hi, Kim! Good luck on your hunt. When I was visiting FL in March, my daughter and I went to a Goodwill store, and I was amazed at the good pickings down there. I told her sometime I will have to drive down in my little CRV, so I can bring home some of the larger things I saw. I just love that lampshade!

Oh Kim- I love the granny couch but understand about the comfortablity factor. I hate it that some of the most awesome looking older furniture is not comfortable at all - guess it was meant for the formal sitting rooms so visitors would not stay too long :)
Good luck on finding a new one and I am sure it will look amazing.

I believe I have the perfect sofa in my attic. It's a bright cottage-y green and I bought it because it reminded me of my Grandma's sofa.
unfortunately the original fabric began to dry rot soon after we brought it to home. We have plans to recover it one day, but for now it's gathering dust in the attic. :(

Try Craigslist. I was recently looking for some shelving for my studio and just randomly opened up a listing for a chair and ottoman that blends perfectly with my family room furniture and has NO wear (dual income couple with no kids and clean pets) for just $250. My mom is thinking of redoing her dining furniture, so we've been prowling listings and I've seen a few really good antique sofas today.

Good Morning all,
I am amazed how you find new spaces in DC to show us. The yellow in your room is a cheerful expression of you Kim. We will be watching and waiting to see the new comfortable couch in your living room. One thing may lead to another as you know. I would love to see your redecorated bathroom one day.
Have a fun day,

Hi Kim
I have been looking for a granny sofa in white for a long long time, it has to be a certain size to fit in a little corner in the sitting room which is proving a sticking point
I'm sure you'll find one soon
oh and couldn't leave without saying how much I like the blankets and the LAMPSHADE, wowza I'd love that in a white, mmm mmmm

Would love to see a close-up of that orange lampshade. Is it macrame?
And your "knitty things" in the second picture? All crocheted, ma'am. All crocheted. Unless you have the knitted stuff folded at the bottom of the stack...
