Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Devilish Southern Belle

I'm so jealous of your beautiful home! I've been by here before, but it's been a while. Love Miss Maggie, too. We recently got a Dachshund! So far, she is fitting in so well with our family - with the exception of Mini, our Chihuahua.

I scored a gorgeous pink semi-circular sofa (for free) a while back, and am trying so hard to hang onto it. I'm really bad at figuring out how to place furniture in our awkward space.

Daisy Cottage

ahhhhhhh congratulations on your new doxie!!! I'm so excited for you DSB!

The Beautiful Life

Hey Kim!! SO neat to run into you in the coffee shop!! What an awesome "coincidence"!

A "granny" room! Now that's a new one for me... but something tells me you pull it off with real style! :)

Good luck on your quest!

Take care, friend!

Kristen Smith

My grandma had a sofa made from the same fabric as your chairs in the living room. Maybe you'll find that on your hunt :).

Can't wait to see it Kim and I love your pillows!

I just know you'll find the perfect, family friendly sofa! If you are like me, you just LOVE a project.
Have fun!

Becky G.

Ahhhh, Kim, you know it's all about the thrill of the hunt! Have fun, and good luck! Becky G.

Hi Kim,
I wanted to let you know how much you have inspied me the past couple day. My Dh is very ill and has been in and out of the hospital for the past 3 months. On one of his stay he had major surgey. He can never be cured so we are trying to adjust to a new normal. Yesterday I needed to get away from doctors, hospitals and medical test and just feel some sense of being normal. I came to your beautiful blog and oh my goodness I feel so refreshed. I spent yesterday afternoon and this morning spurcing up Turtle Cottage. I had so much fun moving things around and playing house. The Cottage no longer looks like a Mash Unit.LOL When I get to bring my dh home he will be so surprise to see all the changes. You and I are kindred spirits. Our taste is so much a like.I have so enjoyed your magazine articles and Fifi is so wonderful too.Thank you for being there when I needed a lift.

Kelly Ann

Kim how funny on the sofa because I actually think my grandmother had one just like your's except it was covered in vinyl or plastic, whatever covered it you stuck to it every time you sat on it...boy does that bring back childhood memories.

I have no doubt that you will find the perfect sofa for the granny room. Goodwill comes to mind!!

Miss Candi ( For Miss Maggie)

Hi Miss Maggie,
I have so enjoyed my mommy reading to me about you and seeing your pictures. You have your mommy trained so well like I do. I lay on back and wave my paws at my mommy too till she picks me up. It is so wonderful to a sucker for a mommy isn't it.LOL When you have time stop over at our Cottage and visit me.
Miss Candi

Good luck on your quest. I know you will find just the right one for you little cottage. The hunt is so much fun and then that moment of "yes, yes yes when you find it. I have a sofa and love seat that are comfortable but I hate the color, and yes I picked them out. I think my body and mind was somewhere else when I made this selection, but I am going to be living with them for quite a while. Happy hunting.

Kim - I wish you the very best of luck. I seem to have the same situation at my house and yet have been able to find something. I am moving toward recovering what I already have - at least I would learn something new that way. I will be watching for your success! ~Kelly

Right now I have a comfy boring brown leather sofa and chair. I'm wishing and hoping to find an old sofa too. Have fun with your search! I know you'll find the perfect one!

Mary Lou

Hi, Kim! Good luck on your hunt. When I was visiting FL in March, my daughter and I went to a Goodwill store, and I was amazed at the good pickings down there. I told her sometime I will have to drive down in my little CRV, so I can bring home some of the larger things I saw. I just love that lampshade!

Oh Kim- I love the granny couch but understand about the comfortablity factor. I hate it that some of the most awesome looking older furniture is not comfortable at all - guess it was meant for the formal sitting rooms so visitors would not stay too long :)
Good luck on finding a new one and I am sure it will look amazing.

Morning Kim,

Oh I just know you will find the perfect replacement and I can't wait to see the transformation!

Andrea at Opulent Cottage

How I wish I was close enough to go thrifting with you girls!!! Can't wait to see what you find.....

I believe I have the perfect sofa in my attic. It's a bright cottage-y green and I bought it because it reminded me of my Grandma's sofa.
unfortunately the original fabric began to dry rot soon after we brought it to home. We have plans to recover it one day, but for now it's gathering dust in the attic. :(

Hi Kim
Have fun finding that new sofa! I wonder what color you'll find.
Hugs, Rhondi

Kelly~Rose Vine Cottage

Good luck on your mission, I hope you find a super cute granny couch! I can't wait to see what you come up with(;

Bobbie Lynn

Good luck and hope you find what you are looking for. Love the photos too. I'm glad I popped on to your blog, it's been a while. I need a little uplift right now.
Can't not wait to see what you find.

Hi Kim :)

I wish you all the luck in the world, but I don't think you'll need it. The perfect couch will find you, just like all the treasures in Daisy Cottage ;)

love you,

I can't wait to see what you find, and I know if will be perfect. After all, it will be happy to go to it's new home filled with love.

Try Craigslist. I was recently looking for some shelving for my studio and just randomly opened up a listing for a chair and ottoman that blends perfectly with my family room furniture and has NO wear (dual income couple with no kids and clean pets) for just $250. My mom is thinking of redoing her dining furniture, so we've been prowling listings and I've seen a few really good antique sofas today.

happy thrifting:)

Brenda Kula

Can't wait to see what you come up with, Kim!

Nancy M.

Good Morning all,
I am amazed how you find new spaces in DC to show us. The yellow in your room is a cheerful expression of you Kim. We will be watching and waiting to see the new comfortable couch in your living room. One thing may lead to another as you know. I would love to see your redecorated bathroom one day.
Have a fun day,
Nancy M.

Kathy funny is Shannon !! Every woman needs a daughter to "tell her like it is" she sounds like my Jacqui.

Go Grannie go, I know you can do it :) Happy hunting...

Have a great week-end....

Kathy :)

Good Luck on the hunt! If you ever decide to get rid of your yellow couch in the front living room ~ I will drive to Florida and pick it up! :) Can't wait to see what you find.

I wish I were there to go sofa shopping with you. Not a doubt in my mind that you will find the perfect one!

Jeanette Carlstrom

I have no doubt you will find the sofa we will all "need" after you post it. Seems like since I found you blog I see yellow and red color everywhere I go... Thanks for sharing

Cheryl Bass

I, too, love your green table and green mirror! Slipcovers and more cushions?

I'm sure you'll find the perfect sofa for your granny room, Kim! Good Luck!!!

Hi Kim

I have been looking for a granny sofa in white for a long long time, it has to be a certain size to fit in a little corner in the sitting room which is proving a sticking point

I'm sure you'll find one soon

oh and couldn't leave without saying how much I like the blankets and the LAMPSHADE, wowza I'd love that in a white, mmm mmmm

Would love to see a close-up of that orange lampshade. Is it macrame?

And your "knitty things" in the second picture? All crocheted, ma'am. All crocheted. Unless you have the knitted stuff folded at the bottom of the stack...

Thank goodness for your sunshiny blog, because I live in Northern NJ and if we have anymore rain I will slide right down to your sunshiny Florida!!!!

Can't wait to see what you find. Happy sofa hunting!
xo Colette

Daisy Cottage

I stand corrected Lynn!
Can I say "crochety things"???

Well the sofa looks gorgeous but it's not comfortable... How will he bear being expelled from Daisy Cottage? That will be the saddest sofa in the world! xx

Everything is soooo cute. Can't wait to see the new sofa.

Good luck finding a perfect sofa for your room.

I love everything else in the room so very much. Especially the orange lampshade and the flower paintings. So charming.

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "What I love best about Daisy Cottage is Kim. I love the way you appreciate every good thing in life and embrace joy in every moment." ~ Rose

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Betty Jo!

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
