Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

It is fun to play, especially with great new 'old' stuff. Love that rocker- and the polka-dot fabric is so you!

Sheila

Love what you've done, Kim! I'm crazy about that mirror. It is the bee's knees!

XO,

Sheila... running between raindrops!

When I peek at the little "blogger inbox" of blogs that I like to read, my heart starts to pitter patter if there is a new Daisy Cottage post. I feel like I did when I was a little girl standing in the Brabie Doll isle. Giddy!

Vanessa

Looks great!! Kim, I really love your "colorful" life style. Please help bring some of these color to my home! Great job! Sincerely, Vanessa

I do the same thing, I'll get a bee in my bonnet one morning and change everything around:>) I think the living room looks great with your pretty yellow couch across from the fireplace. Love your dining room and the whimsey and bright colors!

Hi Kim,
I hear ya girlfriend!!! LOL!!! I am always moving and moving and moving things around. I can't help myself...I think it's a gene I was born with. I am pulling in more navy and khaki and white for summer, so yes I am playing too. I can't wait to see all your transformations.

Hi Kim
That's one of my favorite things to do. I've even switched entire rooms, the living roombecomes the dining room etc. It was such a pleasure to visit with you today. Everything looks so pretty and orderly. A visit with you is just what I needed after all of the confusion here the last couple of days with the trees falling down!

Kim,
Happy Memorial Day week-end to you and your family and friends. We are having our loved ones over for a barbecue so I am happily rearranging to have more room. In my new home I have learned to trust my instincts and it is working! In one month we are almost done except for do-dads. I do have good judgment and much of my inspiration comes form you dear Kim. So paint or not to paint... as in the past you will know.

Nancy

Thanks for sharing your day Kim. I love re~arranging and putting new vinettes together. I n 2 weeks we will be up at our MI home for the summer. I look forward to my month home of playing house. It really is so much fun! Have a wonderful safe Holiday week~end!

I can't get past the yellow sofa....I love that! I've been wondering about that mirror, whether you would paint it or leave it. I guess maybe you're just "living with it" for now, until you decide? I know that's what I do! Have a great weekend!

Kelee Katillac

Hi Kim!

Been playing today myself! Working on my porch....found an amazing vintage glider at a thrift mall.

Your vignettes are sooo pretty! Have a great holiday!

Kay

Hi Kim & Miss Maggie,

Is Miss Maggie on vacation? I haven't seen her. Did she help you "play" ?
It's funny you call it play, I always call it work when I move things around!:) I guess if I had some muscle around to help me maybe it would be play.
Anyhow, I love what you've done and LOVE the red/white rocker! I'm so jealous of your great finds!
I plan to rearrange my living room this weekend. I have a huge china cabinet that my dad made years ago. It weighs a ton & is very tall but as I move it this weekend I will pretend I am playing and will be thinking of my dad, who is in heaven, looking down and probably getting a good chuckle of me moving his furniture around in my house! I will probably rearrange all the things in my china cabinet too, some mine & some of my mothers things. She too is in heaven. Ahh lots of happy memories of my parents this Memorial Weekend.
Have a great weekend and enjoy your playing!

Happy Memorial Day week-end Dear Kim! I'm sure everything is going to look gorgeous where ever it lands. That new chair is scrumptious and looks so comfy. I adore your new photo on the left sidebar. ♥

I wondered if you would think about painting the vagabond ... I think it would look good any way you choose! It's beautiuful.

Jean Eakin

Kim, playing house is the most fun, isn't it? I love all your changes, and I know you are having too much fun doing it. It is great and money saving to shift things from room to room. Hope you have a good holiday weekend.

Adrienne

Hi, Kim -
I love to play and change things around but my little house is small enough that it's hard to do much changing with the big things. So I change the small things often. I love your yellow sofa. Your rocker is so pretty. It reminds me of the sweet rocker my sweetheart's grandfather gave me when we had been married for just a few weeks. He had purchased it used in 1917 or 18 for his young bride. She rocked her babies and grandbabies in it - my father-in-law and sweetheart and their siblings. I was thrilled to receive it and rock my babies in it. It needs to have the seat recovered so I can use it again soon. It's on my project list. I wonder about painting it white but haven't decided yet. Thanks for sharing yours today - it's an inspiration to get mine done. Joey sends his love to Maggie!
~Adrienne~

Leah

Rearranging the furniture and the blog! I like both the changes for a change,ha,ha!I have sooo much fun visiting you, thank you! Leah

Kathy

No matter where you move things, they always look like they belong. That's because everything flows so well in your home. Beautiful, just beautiful.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend. It's rainy here in the sunshine state. Sigh! I've had a busy week though, so I'll use the weekend to catch up on my rest and my blog reading.

Hugs!

Rose - The Center of My Self

Yes, that is one of the best things about cottage style, the flexibility and fun! With formal, fancy rooms that are designed *just so*, you can't really do that because every piece has its assigned place. Your home is just brilliant because all the rooms coordinate exactly with one another and so easily be re-imagined and re-created. Love the little blue table behind the yellow sofa!

Tracie~My Petite Maison

Hi Kim,
Moving things around is so good for the soul. I've done it ever since I had a doll house years and years ago, now it just takes a little more elbow grease. Have a safe, happy weekend too.

The Pleasures of Homemaking

Hi Kim, "playing" is such fun and doesn't cost a dime! The rocker was such a great find and I love the fabric you used on it. I've always loved that tablecloth! I want to learn to sew better so I can make cute stuff like that! I'd paint the mirror frame - red is a great choice!

Have a great weekend!

Manuela

Good morning sweet Kim :)

Everyone loves it when you move things around, because you do it so very well. I love the buffet switcheroo and the rocker is so cute with it's polka-dot fabric!

I think I'd paint the mirror too ;) It looks cute in the dining room and well, anywhere!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Give Miss Maggie hugs from me.

Love to you too,
rue

Our homes really should be a reflection of ourselves...always evolving. Rearranging furniture is such a therapeutic excercise.

Love all that color!

Sarah

I just love it when you give us lots of pictures of what you are doing! You have such a talent for putting everything together and really have created the most charming home I have seen. I ADORE your couch - I wish I could find one just like it. What did you do with your piano though? I think I am going to paint and play today! :) Thanks for all the cheeriness and inspiration you bring to all of us.

Oh Kim you make me smile :) It all looks wonderful, and like so much fun. I love that rocker-- I was all set to go yard sailing myself, but there were only 3 in the newspaper, maybe because of the holiday weekend? Now I'm forced to go finish wallpapering my bathroom... I wish I thought that was fun! Well when it's done it will be!

rue

What a perfect place to put the piano! I'm glad you added more pics. More is ALWAYS better ;)

love to you,
rue

Sarah

Oh! I logged back on to see some of your colors and saw you posted more ~ the piano looks great in the corner. But, maybe I'm confused - so is the dining also behind the couch on the other side of your office room? I love your dining room. I also have a mantle that I use in my dining room as a shelf. It's my favorite place to decorate especially with the different seasons. I put part of an iron gate in front but I love the wicker basket that you have. I am a huge wicker basket collector - actually, I'm obsessed. :)And with the close up shots of your couch ~ I love it EVEN MORE!!!
Happy Holiday! Sarah

Donna

I love your happy home!

Brenda Kula

It is so much fun to play "let's move around the furniture" isn't it? I love to do that. I AM IN LOVE with that rocker, for I love red and white polka dots. LOVE IT, I tell you! And the one word that comes to mind when I see your sweet, sweet house is: Exuberant. Your colors bring vitality and exuberance to your Daisy Cottage, Kim.
Brenda

jennifer

Is there anything better than home?
I think not, and yours is so charming.
My Mother always like to move things around so therefore I received that gene too.
Daddy always used to say that when he came home from work (he worked the night shift), he didn't know whether he would be sleeping in the chest of drawers or the bed. :)
You too have a great weekend!

Allison

Very very cute! Your house makes me so happy :) I love your tablecloth! I love toile! I like how you've moved things around. I think painting the mirror red would be cute!

All the best,
Allison

Catherine

You're simply amazing! I would love to see the mirror painted red!

a girl after my own heart....there are stories of me moving things around from when i was just little....it makes me happy....love all your yellow sunshine you add to your home..

Bobbie Lynn

Love the photos and your colors are great. I need some bright colors in my home too. My home was built in 1959 and so it is small but cozy. I think the kitchen and laundry room are way over due for an up lift. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Memorial weekend too.

Erin

Hi Kim,

Goodness - gracious - how fun that you are playing house again (one of my favorite things) - don't you just love it that we can create a new look using what we have. You are for sure the Repurpose Queen of Blog Land and always give us great ideas with the use of color.
I like your wonderful new mirror and don't think I would paint it -it really anchors your room left natural wood.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Memorial Day.
Blessings,
Erin and a tail way to Maggie from Bentley.
P.S. Bentley is rooting for Oliver in hopes he will win the shy Miss Maggie and is painting a lizard scarf for Oliver.

I like your changes!! Please leave the mirror frame in the wood tone, it not only looks good, but the wood is beautiful! You have done a great job!! Is it still raining??? I know you probably got more than you needed, but poor Florida has been so dry!
Have a good week.

  • "I just discovered your blog and am blown away with the comfortable, almost nostalgic feel of it...almost like finding a long-lost friend after many years apart...somehow familiar, but all so exciting and new." ~ Jane

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "Oh my! I have just stepped into heaven. A nostalgic, magic, getaway place where folk love one another and life is sweet. Kim, you will probably never know just how many hearts you have touched with your site. " ~ Francesca

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "What I love best about Daisy Cottage is Kim. I love the way you appreciate every good thing in life and embrace joy in every moment." ~ Rose

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
