  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. Macaroni & Cheese, If You Please!

And if you don't mind, I'd LOVE for you to share YOUR macaroni & cheese recipe with me.  My dear and long-time friend, Jill C, is going to give me her mother's recipe and I plan on trying it too, but last night I had a serious comfort food craving so I decided to go ahead and make the recipe on the back of the Mueller's Elbow Macaroni box. Here is the version that I made, except I added a half a bar of cream cheese.  (We'll worry about the calories another day, okay?)


Old Fashioned Baked Macaroni and Cheese


8 oz (1/2 package) Mueller's Elbow Macaroni

1/4 cup margarine or butter

3 T all-purpose flour

1/8 tsp dry mustard
*didn't add this*

1/8 tsp salt

1/8 tsp black pepper

2 cups milk

2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese

1 cup croutons
*didn't add this either!*

 

Cook Elbow Macaroni for 9 minutes.

Drain, cover and set aside.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

 In medium saucepan, melt margarine or butter; blend in flour, mustard, salt, and pepper.

Cook until mixture is smooth and bubbly; gradually add milk.

Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture boils; simmer 1 minute, stirring constantly.

Gradually mix in cheese.  Stir over low heat until cheese is melted.

Add pasta; mix together lightly.  Pour into 2-quart casserole.

Top with croutons.  Bake 25 minutes.

Now, this was actually pretty good!  I was quite proud of myself, BUT, it was still missing a little something-something. And I don't think it was the mustard and croutons either. ;-)  What do you think?  More cheddar cheese? I don't know. 

I'll go inside and get a fork for you to try it, and in the meantime, I hope you will share YOUR favorite macaroni & cheese recipe with me - if you please!

Out the Door

I've finished paying the bills, making the beds (yes - I promise that I did!) and swiffering up all of the daily hairballs that like to flutter and tumble into every corner of our home. And now I'm on my way, out the door, to get the laundry soap that I just discovered we are completely out of.  Oops!  I am the worst at making shopping lists.  Sigh. I am the BEST at making to-do lists, but not shopping lists.  How about you?  Are you a list maker? And if so, what is on your list today?

Color Blooms on the Back Porch

You know how sometimes all it takes is one new thing to start a whole new transformation?  Well, my SWEET daughter, Shannon, gave this to me for Mother's Day ...

And of course, I LOVE it!  It is so fun and so cute!! And the back porch is the perfect home for it too! I love doing laundry there, but as you know, I LOVE color too! So, with the addition of my happy new light fixture, I thought it was time to freshen up the back porch for the summer that has already arrived here in Florida! What better way to do that than with new, colorful blooms!
