Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

So I have this outdated "brass" chandelier in my dining room that I have been thinking about selling at the yard sale this Saturday. Now? Not so sure. I'm thinking green.....

Love the color of the yellow checked curtains that you found. Great for any room. Love the colors you in your home. Very happy colors. I need to start going to Goodwill/thrift shops more often.

Cassie

Kim, I just love visiting your blog. The photos and the music take me to some magical place...it's better than looking at a magazine! I love your style and I'm totally smitten with your furry little friend, Maggie! Thanks for sharing your life with us.

Brenda Kula

Makes me wish I had a sister. Love your colorful displays, as you're so good at that. You know, I saw in an old magazine the other day where someone had taken old hankies, turned them "on point" and stitched them together along the top. They must have then put a little piece of fabric along the top back. Because they used it for a window valance. It was lovely.

I love our Goodwill in Lakeland. If you search high and low, you can find some really neat stuff. Love the curtains you found, they will look great in your cottage!

Kimberli

I absolutely LOVE the color of that chandelier!!! I was going to paint mine white but, oh my goodness I love that color!!!

Toni

Love the curtains.....When I lived in California, there was a Goodwill in Roseville that I shopped at often. It had such wonderful treasures. I never failed to find something. I love visiting your blog, you give great inspiration to all. (Your one of the reasons I recently started my blog) Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos.

Adrienne

Hi Kim -
Love your 'new' curtains. Can't wait to see where they will hang. Isn't it fun to find something special that just has to come home with you?
~Adrienne~

Mom in High Heels

I love your blog. It makes me happy every time I pop over for a visit.
I'm doing a 100th post give-away over on my blog. It involves German chocolates!

Patty

I love the curtains and all the other treasures you seem to find at Goodwill. We need a Goodwill in our town. I love the color you put on the chandelier! Do you share the brand and color name? I'd love to paint a small outdoor table that color!

Tracy

Just bought a vintage tablecloth in the same pattern as one of your yellow curtain sets! Sadly I found a hole in it too late...now I'm thinking it might be cute as curtains with vintage trim :0) Thanks for sharing!

Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Those are beautiful, Kim!! And I love that bright blue chandelier! I painted mine white, but after seeing yours I'm thinking a pop of color up toward my white ceiling might be perfect! And I also love your bluebird figurine. I have one styled very similar that has a music box in it... I just love bluebirds even though I've never actually seen one 'in person'!! Have a wonderful week!... Donna @ An Enchanted Cottage

Kathi

Oooooh! Love those curtains! I just found a king sized bedskirt on Craiglist that I'm going to use as top trim on MY new drapes.
It's white with RED flowers! $7 too!!!
Yippee!

Kathi

Where did you find that turqouise spray paint for your chandelier? I love it!

Kelly Bergsing

Those curtains are great!! I love the yellow colors!! :) They are so very happy!!

Betty Jo

Kim those are darling finds! I see some of the curtains still has the price tag. I adore your turqouise chandelier. I found a small white tureen recently at a flea market for only $3 that is almost identical to the one you have sitting on the books. The handles of mine are shaped a bit different but basically the same otherwise. I so love it. ♥

BTW I'm moving my blog so will add a new link below!

Leah

The curtians are sweet. I'm at least going to take mine down and wash them...doing some spring cleaning...Leah

Joyce

Not only is your blog beautiful, your photography is superb! I can't get over the beautiful, close-up pictures you get. Gosh, you can practically see every thread. And I can't get over the amount of comments you get! Very impressive. You must be proud, rightfully so!!!

Jane

Your thrifted curtains are lovely, I like the yellow and white check most of all. I love the cushion cover in your new chair in the granny room. Was it crocheted. Jane x

Donna Warrington

Love the curtains, love that color....sorry I didn't win the aprons, I do have several and I wore one the them other day while making fried chicken...yes, we still make fried chicken, my aunt from Alabama showed me years ago, I make the best fried chicken ever...or at least that's what my husband says.

Love the blog.

Nancy

I just love your blog! It is such an inspiration. In fact it inspired me to paint my boring studio sunny yellow like Daisy cottage!

andylynne

Oh curtians! Are there enought windows in the world? No not nearly enough. Those are darling finds. I bet you will find the perfect spot for them. I could see those sweet pale yellow trimmed ones in a cozy bath. But I think Maggie whisperd that she really would like them in the dog chateau she is thinking of having you put out back, for her summer vacations. You decide it will be fun to see where they end up.

dotsie

You are always inspiring with your color! Love the curtains, and the chandelier color ( my daring bathroom color). I don't know how you find what you do at your Good Will.

Randee Willmore

Love your curtains. After finding your blog and visiting often, I now go to my Goodwill at least once a week. Thanks for the inspiration. I like the Jade color.
Have a great Thursday.

I love your blog, your ideas & MAGGIE. I am going to use a vintage apron for a curtain on my kitchen door. It has red & turqoise in it so I hope to incorporate torquoise into my home. I'm looking for curtains for my kitchen windows but may start collecting vintage aprons for those also. Kathy C in ILLinois

Nancy Omachi

Audrey

Hi Kim! As alway, I love reading your blog! I haven't been able to read it the last couple weeks because my computer stopped working! (Not fun at all!) Anyway, you inspire me with your decorating and I was wondering if you could help me out with a couch...We need a a new one, but I am having a very hard time figuring out what I want! Any suggestions??? Oh, my walls are bright yellow like yours... :) My mom loves your blog too by the way (Linda @ kindlelightblessings)

sarita

congrats to erica for winning the apron!! how fun to win something wonderful and USEFUL!!!

Diane

Don't you just love to play house? I think the fun of thrifting is that you can add the extra touches that you might not have otherwise.

Linda Witte

Hehehe...I painted one in "RED" to hang above my dining table. I found it on Craigslist for $5 and it's very old with all of the original glass prisms...what a deal!! Love the turqoise one you painted!!
Linda

Sharon~Serendipity

Oh boy...I have a BAD dining room chandelier that could do with a nice coat of turquoise or red paint. Hmmm....good idea! I'll add it to my list. :)

Colleen

You have made me want to go on the hunt for cute aprons!

Lallee

Ha! I was going to ask what the paint color was, and there it was already as I scrolled down. Thank you! I've been looking for a good aqua for some things I want to paint. Those curtains are wonderful. I can't wait to see them in use. What perfect finds for Daisy Cottage. Congratulations to the apron winner!

Kathi

Rustoleum "Jade!" I'm off to find a can (or two!) Thanks!

Tina in Duluth

What great finds! I can't wait to see what you do with those yellow checks.

Good morning sweet Kim :)

I must have channeled Daisy Cottage when I painted The Becky Chair and I think I will again when I paint the chandelier in the breakfast room ;)

The new curtains are perfect for Daisy Cottage and I can't wait to see where you put the yellow trimmed beauties.

Thank you for always putting a smile on my face and for letting me know I can count on you to be there for me. You know you can count on me too :)

love you bunches too!

Hi Kim,
Love the curtains. Well, actually I love everything you do! Easter greetings from Long Island! Hugs, Rosemary~

Kathy

Hey Kim,

Just hopped in to wish you a Happy Easter :)

All the best,
xo Kathy :)

Carol

I think those curtains will look fabulous! I love the color you painted the chandelier. I remember you had painted your metal table outside a similar color. Can you tell me if that is the same color as the chandelier? I fell in love with that table when you showed it, and wanted to paint my own boring black table. I've always wanted to ask, but I was just a lurker at the time!

Carol

Sorry, it's Carol from the question above. I forgot to add my URL so that you can answer my question! I'm new to blogging and posting, so I think you can see my e-mail address when I add my URL? I'm a newbie!! Sorry if I sound silly!

Daisy Cottage

(((Carol)))
You can ask me anything any old time that you want to and YES, this blue is the same blue that we used for our backyard iron table!

xo,
Kim

Good Evening Kim,

I am just stopping in before I delve in to my pile of homework. I always feel refreshed after visiting your warm and comforting cottage :) Oh and I love your pretty curtains too!

Why can't I find the perfect curtains for my kitchen? I've been planning on making them from old Wilendur tablecloths but still haven't gotten around to it. I already have the fabric, now I just need to get inspired. Maybe this will do it! Thanks for sharing all your loveliness!

Missy Severson

That turquoise color is divine!

Kathi

I am SO excited! I found two yellow gingham curtain panels at me fav thrift store yesterday! THEN I found yards and yards of a really cute RED striped (vintage looking) fabric that has YELLOW flowers!!! I am SO looking forward to making my "new" curtains!! I guess my weekend disappointment was leading me to these great finds! Again, and again thanks for your inspiration!!!

Vanessa

I just loved the yellow curtains!! So pretty!

  • "I just discovered your blog and am blown away with the comfortable, almost nostalgic feel of it...almost like finding a long-lost friend after many years apart...somehow familiar, but all so exciting and new." ~ Jane

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "Oh my! I have just stepped into heaven. A nostalgic, magic, getaway place where folk love one another and life is sweet. Kim, you will probably never know just how many hearts you have touched with your site. " ~ Francesca

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "What I love best about Daisy Cottage is Kim. I love the way you appreciate every good thing in life and embrace joy in every moment." ~ Rose

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank you Joy!

  • "Your blog has helped me start to see the beauty in life again." ~ Joy

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Tracy!

  • "Your words and thoughts of encouragement help me see myself with value. You are a blessing. Thank you." ~ Tracy

Thank you Karen!

  • "Your humble spirit has not changed through your many posts here in Blogland. You have been blessed with a special gift and I am very thankful you share it with us." ~ Karen

Thank You Betty Jo!

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
