Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Beautiful photos! I could sit on your porch for hours and hours just admiring your new garden!

I plan to come out to play just as soon as it stops raining here! Thank goodness May is just around the corner...April showers have turned my basement into a sodden mess! Glad I can enjoy the sunshine here:>) I can never keep Gerbera daisies alive and I love them so! Now off to see Michele:>)

I would LOVE to come play Kim! Your red daisy looks perfect in that darling pot :)

Michelle did a wonderful interview with you and I loved your answers.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I hope your mom is doing okay.

much love,

Pretty pottery!

I wouldn't even mine the chores if I were wearing that apron! :)

Hi Kim
I'd love to come outside and play with you and sit on your lovely porch. What is the yellow item with the birds across the top? I've never seen anything like that before.
Have a good weekend.
Hugs, Rhondi

Sure! I'll come out and play with you!

I love the fiesta pitcher and the apron!

I LOVE that apron! Also love how you are incorporating that beautiful shade of blue on your porch.

Sad to say, but many of my indoor chores are sliding, due to all the time we're spending outdoors!

Your home is so colorful and inviting - have fun doing your chores!

Great pictures! Your welcome. I wish I could play today, but hi ho hi ho it's off to work I go!

Gorgeous. I love all of your turquoise. Have a wonderful weekend.

Thank-you for all of your loving support. Just visiting Daisy Cottage lifts my spirit. The porch is adorable. And Maggie below--Oliver is working on catching those lizards for her! HE will be her HERO!!

Again thank-you for being an authentically, fully expressed you!

You have a great weekend, too.

I just read the article that Michelle did and learned some new things. Thanks for doing it and thank you for the link.

Gosh, I love the colors in here.

I adore the photos! That apron is wonderful and I see a Fiesta pitcher that I purchased one just like last weekend in Pigeon Forge. What a lovely collection of items! I have always wanted some Fiesta, so I finally bit the bullet and started my collection. It felt so good to make that first purchase! Thanks for inspiring me!

Hi Kim! I'm a browser and love taking a break often with your site...always so lovely and full of fun ideas!
But oh my!!!!!! could we please have a tighter shot of that yellow platter on your red dresser? That is so awesome but I cannot figure out exactly what it is...
Also, how do you keep the furniture on your porch from getting gross from mildew and bugs? Is it an enclosed porch?
Oh prolly clean often, eh? Hmmmm...yeah, that's prolly what I need to do more often!! Heh.

Daisy Cottage

Good Morning Birdies!

I'm swiffering through my office and just saw that some of you are asking about the something-yellow-thing on the dresser. That in its' former life was a dingy resin slate thing that you could use chalk on to write a message - I had it on my back porch before. On a whim (as usual) I sprayed the whole thing with yellow spray paint. I think I might paint "Daisy Cottage" on it or apply a big daisy to it OR paint some other words or saying on it. What do you think? It would be cute as a welcome sign too. Thank you for asking AND for looking! Back to my dusting now!
*Hi Janey! I love browsers! ;-) *

I would love to play outside...but the weather is not cooperating here, rain, rain and more rain so I shall have to play inside today.

Aw I wish I could go out to play on your porch! So lovely!

All the best,

Florence Muma

Kim I love your bold colors and yes I would love to come and sit on your porch and look out at the garden. We in the Pacific NW are all waiting for the nice weather to stay around so we can get our flowers growing abundantly.

I love your porch and all the vibrant colors

I'd love to come outside its beautiful in the garden at the moment. I love your yellow panel with the birds on it reminds me of the swallows sitting on the telephone wires in late summer. Jane x

Betty @ She's Sew Pretty

Spring on your porch is just so pretty! I think I need to find something red to add to my patio and then something blue and then something yellow! Do you do makeovers? LOL

Enjoy yourself. We're having a yucky day here and can't come out today.:(

Gabriela Delworth

Hello Kim,

These colours are amazing!

~ Gabriela ~

I would love to play, Kim! And your porch is just adorable. But alas, I have to get very busy on chores that are backed up to Kingdom Come. But there's joy in finishing a task, and I will revel in that as you enjoy rocking in the beauty of Daisy Cottage...

Sheila :-)

Yes, I can come out and play! I'd love to join you on your porch and spend time enjoying your flowers and pretty things there. Oh, how I wish I had a porch! Maybe someday - I can imagine what it would look like on my dear little home. Dream on. . .

Red Writing

You have used the ultimate trifecta of color--red, yellow and turquoise! Words can not adequately express the giddiness I just experienced while scrolling through your porch photos. Absolutely breathtaking! Seriously--made my day.

Hi Kim! I love your sight and have been visiting you for years! Thought it was about time I stopped and said hello, and thank you for the beauty you bring to my days! After I have been on your blog and then go to Mum and dad's who have 2 mini longhaired Doxies (both boys), I always say to them "I saw that pretty little dark haired lady today - you boys would love her!!" (referring of course to Miss Maggie) LOL! The would love her!
Anyway, you are a treasure Kim, and I really love your blog so much - it truly does brighten my day!!
God Bless you Kim!
Hugs to you

Funny you should do this post, because just yesterday I started working on my front porch. There's a black wrought iron table and two chairs, and that's about all right now, but I have a pretty fountain I want to move out there from the back, and put potted plants around it. And I have a candle-lier that I want to paint and put out there over the table. I have an old tablecloth with a pretty clover design chicken feed sack from the 50's on top, A vintage British 'Post' box with magazines, and a couple of vintage aprons, but now I'm stumped. Of course inspiration comes from the oddest places sometimes! I'll do a post on my blog when my porch is finished. Thanks for sharing yours! Becky

Beautiful! I'm loving all of the red, yellow and turquoise. LOVE the mirror, it's so ornate.

I so much wish I had a front porch. You decorated yours beautifully.

I wish I could go to FL then go outside and play in your garden,ha,ha! Could pull the weeds out of mine I guess....Have a great wk end! Leah

Thank you, Kim for sharing your sweet home with us. Your color scheme is just so bright, homey, & refreshing. Oh I would love to have a front porch! Hugs, Sue

There's nothing like relaxing on the porch! I've been painting some of the furniture on the porches, and sewing cushions and pillows. Too rainy and windy today to sit on the porch swing. I love your red mirror, and that sweet apron. How's the view of the new garden from your porch?
Happy Weekend!

I'll sit on the porch with you. We can have some tea and enjoy the cool Spring breeze.

Have a joyous weekend!

Oh how I love to sit on the porch and watch the world go by! Especially once my chores are done and dinner is baking wafting yummy sents into the air! It is hard to give up and go inside sometimes-isn't it? Enjoyed your post very much as usual Kim-Smiles~Tam!

Rose - The Center of My Self

Isn't it fun to be playing in the dirt? I love my pretties. I cut a small bouquet of sweetpeas today and can't keep my nose out of them. I adore their deliciously sweet scent!

And I adore your heart-lifting happy photos and stories. Have a great weekend, Kim!

Oooooooooooo! I so love your red daisies. I have a pretty pot, but haven't had the time to shop for plants. I hope to plant geraniums. I'm in a new place now and will have to see which plants do best on my semi-sunny deck. ♥

WOW!! Your porch is amazing, I would love to stop by and play. Stunning.

Hi Kim,
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave your sweet comments about my COTM!! I t means soooo much to me! Your porch looks amazing, if I lived just a little bit closer we could sit and chat(;

Brenda Kula

I've been "playing" outside all morning. Except it was hard work! Trimming plants and shrubs, cleaning bird baths. But then, it is my chosen "work." And I love it. Happy to see some red daisies!

I would love to sit on the porch today. It's raining here. I'm looking forward to "porch days"!

Kim- you wield color like a magic wand! Your porch looks absolutely delicious, as always. Hope you're having a great weekend!

I love the turquoisey blue and red color's what I'm going for in my kitchen! :) You have a great weekend too, Kim!!

OK.....I've got to have a lil tray like that yellow one. I'm on a mission. Going to hit local flea markets and antique shops today to find something like that. Don't you just love it when people take YOUR ideas and make it their own? Heh. I think it's the lil birds on top that is doing it for me.....or maybe the bright, shiny color.. When I find one, I'll send you the image!!

La Donna

What beautiful colors! : )
La Donna

Such Happy and Bright colors. I love it!

Daisy Cottage

Thank you EVERYONE!!

Janey, I LOVE it SO much when our ideas are shared and embellished on... that's what it is ALL about.

And remember - a can of spray paint creates wonders! A dingy something-something gets a fun new life when spray painted - especially in bright yellow! ;-)

Diane Stephenson

Of course I'd love to play with you, out on your porch! Thanks for the great pictures, Kim!

What a bright, fun porch! I'd love to know the color of the red dresser and how you painted it - I am wanting a red cabinet/hutch/something-like-that in my kitchen. If you have time I'd love to hear the kind of paint, etc. abbiemknaub (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
