Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. Where are YOU?

You know how much I LOVE red and yellow.  And of course, I love green too. You also know that little touches of blue have been appearing here, there, and everywhere in Daisy Cottage. Our world is filled with gorgeous color - it really is SO fun to add some of it to our homes, don't you think?

I wanted one of our rooms to be blue and I decided that, while I have enjoyed the "travel room" and its' coppery brown color, I felt that I wanted a change. I picked a bold Laura Ashley blue and my daughter's SWEET boyfriend painted the room for us. Thank you Austin!!

But my hubby only dreams in black & white!

Hmmm.....

Now she says that she dreams in color too ...

And why do I keep dreaming FOR YEARS that I'm trying to make it to class before the bell rings and I can't find the classroom?

Sunday Stroll

As you know, we live downtown.  Weekdays bring hustle and bustle to our street as people go back and forth to work and wherever else their destination may be.  While I enjoy watching the cars go by, I REALLY love Sunday afternoons in our neighborhood.  The commuters are home and hopefully enjoying their nests and we "townies" are left behind to enjoy the old-fashioned ambiance that is SO special and dear to us - a treasured benefit of living in a historic neighborhood.  The birds seem to chirp a little bit louder and the sound of old porch doors slamming and children playing fill the air.  Neighbors on foot greet each other, stopping to chat at garden gates. Porch swings sway back and forth while neighborhood dogs, in all shapes and sizes, strut their stuff and escort their owners down to the lake and back.  It's a wonderful life - living in this neighborhood that is just a lake away from downtown - and I LOVE each day that I get to live here.

So since it IS Sunday, I thought I'd grab my camera and walk down to the lake and back and enjoy the new blooms and fresh air.  And may I say that today is an EXTRA beautiful Florida day and I hope wherever YOU are you are having a gorgeous day too.

Thank you ....

"You are the sunshine of my life ~ that's why I'll always be around."

Thank you SO much for everything. I love you all very much.  And I know that you completely understand the loss of someone that you loved.  So what do we do?  Well, we breathe in and out and we breathe deeply.  We wake up each day and whisper "thank you" and we treasure the moments.  We remember our loved ones and we carry on - and we do the best that we can, one day at a time.  We honor them by embracing every single second of this life and loving each other every step of the way.  Thank you for holding our hands and for being there. My Mom thanks you from the bottom of her heart too.


After spending one of the early days in the hospital with Dan, I came home to Daisy Cottage and there was a package from sweet Rue waiting on the porch.  She painted the most ADORABLE birdhouse for me and I melted as soon as I saw it.....

Her amazing attention to detail touched my heart sooooo much...
