Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Hi Kim~ I agree, I love to get into my bed when it's made~ and I almost always do make it~ but yes, I admit it, there are days when I am rushing out of the house for work! Sorry, Mom! :) Love your bathroom with its splash of red! Please come by.... I'd love for you to visit my blog~ Have a wonderful day!

Mu Hubby made ours this morning.
He has that military training and does a much better job than me!
(He had fabulous laundry folding skills too!)
Love those sweet red additions to your bathroom, you are Loved!!

You're the cutie! ;)

Yes, nice frame and wonderful shower curtain. What a great way to save some money! Those things are so expensive.

beth daggett

I love the frame! We just have builder's standart medicine cabinets in our house right now, but plan on replacing them with something cuter someday. Also, love the red! It is ONE of my favorite colors. :)

Lea Harper

U R obviously well loved.

Love it all.

Hey, Kim! We were on the same wavelength today. Love what Kevin did with your red frame. It looks great! I hope others will come & see how easy it is to frame out those mirrors, esp. using the corner blocks like I did. Thanks for the linky love, girlfriend! xoxoxo

The red is fabulous. Wish my hard working hubby had more time for projects...

The Blue Ridge Gal

I love, love, love the red shower curtain with the yellow rick-rack! My neighbor brought me a bag of fresh lemons yesterday from her lemon tree and I thought of you.

Your house is so gorgeous you don't need to make the bed LOL.

most mornings I make our bed but sometimes i forget. When i was little my mum would always have to remake the bed because i was such a shuffler that everything would come undone. Loving your red touches to the bathroom. Jane x

Pat@Back Porch Musings

I'm working on making a "new" bed, at our house...all because of a 75% off sale. Love those kind of sales.

Your new red frame is very pretty, Kim.

Looks great Kim....I just came from Rhoda's....GREAT minds think alike !!

It looks great,
Kathy :)

Kim, I love your mirror (good work, Kevin)and shower curtain (good work, Sis)! And you deserve to be spoiled! :-)

I have some information for you that I promised. My vet sells an over the counter dog prodcut called Micropearls that has Dermal Sooth Anti-Itch Shampoo, Dermal Sooth Anti-Itch Cream Rinse, and Dermal Sooth Anti-Itch Spray. They also sell a product called Tropiclean, and the Neem version of that is for itchy skin.

My friend's dog uses a vet prescribed spray called Genesis Topical Spray made by Virback Animal Health Dermatology. She said it worked well for Shadow who before was itching to pieces. Email me if you need more info because I have the vet's name, etc.

Hugs to you and sweet (hopefully not itchy) Maggie...

You are too cute ...I just got back from physical therapy and what did I say...? I always make my bed? ...Well it isn't made yet;-)
Your mirror is wonderful and I also enjoyed Rhoda's post about hers. Your home always looks so cheerful to me:)
Gotta go make my bed!

Barbara @ Southern Lady's Vintage

Love the mirror frame! My hubby did one for me around one of our downstairs bathrooms, but wouldn't let me paint it! He said can't you just leave it like it is? Hmmmmm.... will have to let it alone for just a bit.
I think your red looks great!

Lisa ~A Cottage to Me

The frame and the shower curtain look great! I almost always make my bed.....except for today, ha,ha! BUT, it will get straightened before I get in it tonight. Just makes for a better sleep!

SoBella Creations

The frame looks great! I love your bed cover. Is it vintage?

Alison Gibbs

Mmm.... yes I always make my bed. Sometimes not til late morning. Those are usually the mornings unexpected visitors drop in. What must they think?? Who cares - they should be coming to visit me not to see how much housework I have or haven't done!!

suzanne urban

Simple pleasures are the best-I have a sign in my studio that says: "Do one thing everyday that makes you happy."

Good quote!

Lavender Dreamer

Thanks for the link! I desperately want a red frame in my bathroom! I have been RED crazy lately! Love your are so smart!

Penny @ Lavender Hill Studio & The Comforts of Home

Oops! I missed the last post...but here is my answer. I make the bed 99% of the time. Our master bedroom is right off our kitchen nook and you can see the bed. So if I don't make it, I see it...:-)

Love the frame around your mirror!

Jean Eakin

Kim, The punch of red around your mirror is fantastic, and what a sweet sister you have to sew for you. Could I just borrow her for a little while. You have a great evening.

I do actually make my bed every day... not always in the morning, but I have to make it before I can sleep in it!

I enjoyed the whole making bed thing, and all the responses, I *try to make my bed every day but don't haha, story of a lot of things in my life

What a sweet hubby, Kim! The mirror is so pretty. I just bought a $14.99 table from Goodwill (with two leaves that fall down on either side) and I am planning on painting it red. I'm so excited about it. I think your colors are all so happy! :)

Being spoiled is so nice! love the frame! and the shower curtain... so pretty.

I can't go to work without a made bed--i just can't!

Esther Sunday

Oh, Kim - just always love everything!!! I don't miss a thing with you with my lurking around! By the way, about Maggie, sorry I haven't read all the responses and you didn't mention this in your post - I assume the vet has checked her liver? I ask because I have a friend (not a dog, but it would make sense) that has a liver condition (something to do with the hardening of the ducts) that causes severe itching. Liver emzemes were up so high and it was then diagnosed with a biopsy. This is just a thought. Love ya! Esther

I bet that even when you don't make your bed it's still adorable. ;) And I love the red frame! Your hubby's a dear. You are so much more daring than I in choosing colors. I want to oomph up the color in my house, but I keep picking "safe" colors. Drat! I guess I humiliated myself beyond repair when I chose mauve carpet in the 90's. Need to update, eh? Maybe then I'll feel more adventurous. Mauve carpet is so unmotivating!

Have a lovely night, Kim!

Oh, the red frame and shower curtain are just gorgeous! Red is my favourite colour and, I agree, it certainly does add a "punch" of colour to a room.

You'll be happy to hear that I made my bed this morning. Good girl.

You're welcome. BTW, beds are made MOST of the time in our house ;)

Love love love the red mirror!

I didn't make my bed today. After my Super Bowl party last night, I had to hop out of bed this morning and hurry to the tennis court. I'm glad I didn't make it since I needed a nap this afternoon.

BTW, did you see the Super Bowl decorations I ended up doing? I was happy with it all.

Kim, I love the red mirror frame....and yesterday, I didn't make our bed either. We were on our way to College Station and the phone rang about nine the bed and a few other things got left undone. They will be there the next day....time with my husband is more important than a "made-up" bed.

I think your bed looks gorgeous unmade.
I love, love, love the red frame and shower curtain. I think you deserve to be spoiled!!

I was told the same thing by my mother and passed it on to my daughters.

The red frame is so pretty! Love the red, white and black colors.

  • "I just discovered your blog and am blown away with the comfortable, almost nostalgic feel of it...almost like finding a long-lost friend after many years apart...somehow familiar, but all so exciting and new." ~ Jane

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

  • "Oh my! I have just stepped into heaven. A nostalgic, magic, getaway place where folk love one another and life is sweet. Kim, you will probably never know just how many hearts you have touched with your site. " ~ Francesca

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "What I love best about Daisy Cottage is Kim. I love the way you appreciate every good thing in life and embrace joy in every moment." ~ Rose

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank you Joy!

  • "Your blog has helped me start to see the beauty in life again." ~ Joy

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Tracy!

Thank You Betty Jo!

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
