Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. If You're a Good Girl at the Doctor's...

What does a girl do AFTER she survives her annual visit to her gynecologist, a couple of blood tests, an EKG, and a flu shot?

Why she treats herself to a hot cup of coffee AND a quick visit to her favorite clothing consignment shop!  ;-)

I'm hosting a bridal shower here at Daisy Cottage for a friend of mine and even though I never wear dresses anymore, when I saw this one hanging on the rack, I knew that it would be PERFECT for the afternoon shower..

See the daisies???   ;-)

And it appears to never have been worn!

Now, I'll have to "dress" this up a bit, of course, and will do so by wearing it with my red boots and a red sweater.  Oh, and maybe a red necklace.. or two...  or three!  ;-)

Oh So Fun!

We got back last night from spending a WONDERFUL weekend with our daughter, Shannon.  It was "Parents' Weekend" at her college and we had such a great time with her and her roommates - they are all too cute for words - and we saw a fabulous football game.... especially because we won!  ;-)

Shannon and I got in some thrifting time, of course, and I found a vintage red pocketbook in one of our favorite shops that I just love!!  I know, I know, it's not for everyone - but it is for me!  ;-)

Cookies from Erin

Buried underneath a pile of bills and lists of things to do, I was totally absorbed this morning with numbers and dates, when my neighbor and friend, Erin, knocked on the door.....

She SO sweetly brought over a tray of home-made DELICIOUS fall cookies... just because!

Oh yes - we LOVE Erin!

*Updated to add that Erin generously agreed to share her recipe with us!*

Erin's Great Grandma Ortner's Cut Out Cookies

1 cup butter

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1 egg

2 1/2 cups flour

Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla.  Beat in egg.  Add flour slowly and mix well.  Chill 2 hours.  Roll thin on floured pastry cloth.  Cut out and bake @ 350 for about 10 minutes or until edges just start to brown.  Cool and frost.

Erin's Frosting Recipe

1 cup butter

Approximately 3 lbs. of powdered sugar

Add cream or milk until the consistency is right

Add vanilla until the taste is right

*makes enough to frost a double batch of the cookie recipe*
