Happy Sunday! I hope yours has been a wonderful one!
My hubby and brother-in-law, Jim, were very good boys when they brought home two vintage bathtubs that they found for $25 each at a local horse farm. The tubs were being used as water troughs for the farm's horses. My sister and I wanted them for our gardens and today we filled ours with dirt and flowers.....
Do you remember this? I couldn't decide what color to paint it and it eventually made its' way to our garden. When we entertain I'll put candles in it and light them for fun ambiance. I love cottage gardening because it is lighthearted, playful AND very forgiving for gardeners like me who do NOT have a green thumb! ;-)
I LOVE your red Gerber daisies!!! How appropriate! I can not wait until the weather is good for a garden here. I think I will actually try vegetables this year so I can make yummy salads. And I'm thinking about Gerber daisies now too..thanks for the inspiration!

The bathtub flower gardens are adorable! I've been looking for the galvanized steel troughs to use as a raised vegetable garden. Now, if I see a bathtub before I find the steel troughs I know that will work, too!
Thanks for sharing! It's really charming!

that just made me SMILE. Love that look. 1 question...how did you deal with drainage?
Posted by: traci | February 24, 2008 at 04:22 PM
Thank you!!!
Traci - there is a hole at the bottom of the tub so we lined the bottom with rocks and the tub is perched on a few bricks to help with the drainage... hope we did this right! ;-)

My Grandparents had a claw foot tub like that when I was a young child. I love taking baths in it.They remodeld and got a modern tub and then they had it in their flower garden until it just got to old. Thanks for bringing back pleasant memories of my childhood.

those daisies look so cute in there. Your husband is a sweetie pie..can he bring me one too? My mother had a old clawfoot tub in her yard too..she always meant to plant flowers in it, but I do remember it made a nice watering hold for a duck we had named Stewy. Then I acquired the tub when I moved back to their house as an adult but had to leave it behind...soo sad...so I always keep my eye out for one...that I can keep. I love the flowers you chose..perfect for Daisy cottage and I think that candle stick is perfect for a garden party.....

Seeing flowers planted in a tub just makes me smile, I can't wait until spring time rolls around here, the snow is slowly melting.

The sun came out at last here in Southern California--only someone from Florida could understand how days and days of gray skies can so quickly change a sunny mood to something less. Your sassy bathtub did the trick yesterday. Today, I was at the nursery scooping up the last of the one gallon ranuculas to fill in the open spots in the yard. Thank you, thank you for your happy take on the world just outside our doors. perryjane

Oh Kim,
I love that tub! The idea of candles is a great one - how fun. I love your comment about cottage gardening and it being forgiving, thank goodness for that - I've got the same kind of thumb as you - I think it's somewhere in between green and brown!
Happy day sweets,

Hey Kim, I LOVE the tub....hubby was so great to get it for you. It is perfect for Daisy Cottage! If you don't mind, I need advice about my blog...how did you get the playlist on your blog. I have taken all the steps, but it won't work for me. Could you or some of your lovely readers help me? Your songs add so much charm to your already charming blog. Thanks a bunch. Vicky

Kim, I love your bathtub and it's inhabitants--gorgeous flowers!
What a great idea for a tub. When we had our first home, we redid our bathroom and a neighbor asked us for our old tub. She used it in her garden, upright, with a statue in it. Clever and charming.
Good work and ideas.

I loved to see your claw foot tub planted, as I was looking on the internet for ideas to plant a similar claw foot tub. one that my mom had in her backyard. When we sold her house this year I refused to part with it.... my mom had tulip, daffodil, hyacinth bulbs that we had given her that would come up every spring along with mint and various other herbs. so now it is in my back yard, my son wants to paint it although I haven't decided on a color for the outside yet...... may be a nice yellow, I have been thinking of putting lobelia (blue), which will flow over the sides alyssum, stock, yellow daisies and I just bought a pink jasmine( that if it isn't contained will spread all over the back yard) I do want to put a shepards hook into the tub prior to filling it with the potting soil so I can hang a humming bird feeder or a small wind chime over it.....love your tub already planted...... can't wait to get mine done.. I have really enjoyed checking out your wonderful site. Your pictures are beautiful. I live in northern MN and my backyard is covered with 2 feet of snow and the weatherman has predicted an additional 5 inches tonight! Your pics give me hope that spring is coming someplace--but not for two more months here. I am very happy that you had the opportunity to contribute to such a beautiful magazine. Let's believe that it is just the start for many more similar opportunities to come!
