Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

I think your new Granny chair is very cute! Don't you just love to imagine the little lady who must've occupied this chair and wonder what she was like?

This chair must have "good bones", right Maggie? THe chair looks so comfy and just right for your room...
Don't you just love Goodwill!!!

You find the best things at your Goodwill! Another perfect fit for Daisy Cottage & yes, I think Maggie approves. She's so adorable!

Christmas hugs,

I do wish I had a Good Will like yours around. I have the SA and VV, but neither have such lovely things as you find. BTW, I think your granny chair is lovely. So nice that it found a home where it will be loved, by you and Maggie!

Your new granny chair is fabulous! Maggie looks so cute all snuggled up in it :o)
Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Maggie has already claimed that
chair as her own. Who can blame her, it
suits her to a tee.
The afghan and chair also seem to be a
good match. What a cozy nest she has found.

Reminds me of our little dog--we found a
used wing-back chair and he claimed it as his own.
I was glad that he had such a comfy chair
for his last few of years of life--
still miss him.

The only thing you can do with Maggie is kiss her, hug her and love her. All the things you probably do abundantly........

Daisy Cottage

I just love those kind of treasures!! Maggie knows how to make the chair feel at home.
Happy Holidays!!

Once again, you came home from your Goodwill with a winner! I remember having drapes made out of fabric very similar to this fabric. I always thought they were so pretty. I had them in Nashville TN...I had maple furniture, very "Early American"...this was the early 60's. I loved it. When I see a piece of fabric like this or maple furniture it always reminds me of when I lived in Tennessee.

Raised In Cotton

I think it is Granny Cool Kim:) Love your sweet pet pictures:)

That chair is great, you have the best luck at Goodwill.

I think Maggie's just checking the chair out for you to make sure it's comfortable, she's a "working" dog like mine - always there to make sure things are just right!

Does your house magically grow whenever you bring treasures home? You seem to always have space for everything!

Daisy Cottage

LOL Jill!
No, I move things and rotate them around ALL the time.. this granny chair bumped the brown wicker chair into our bedroom. I also trade off with my sister alot of times too.

Kathy :)

I think that chair looks perfect...and so does Miss Maggie !!

Merry Christmas Kim,
Kathy :)

kim, that chair is a great find, it looks like it is in great condition and has a great shape to it. I love it!

julie (jane's apron)

I have never found a good upholstered chair at my thrift store and now you have found ANOTHER one (I still remember the blue/green one in one of your posts). Pretty fabric, cool shape, and it looks!

Wow Kim, that is the best find ever!!! I'm with Maggie, it's very cozy and worthy of some snuggle time being spent right there with that blankie :)

nikki brey

I cannot believe the great stuff you find at Goodwill. You inspired me to go to my local Goodwill one day and it was horrible.

Also I love the new font and color on the blog!

That cozy little chair is darling and so lucky to be a part of such a cozy home. I really like that old fabric..that always looks so homey. Great find!

Great find!! I love the upholstery!! My granny chair is in the same yellow-gold as your throw, hehe!

LOVE that chair! Your cottage just gets cuter every day! Thank you for sharing it with us!

I love your new "granny" chair! Can't help but wonder how many books were read while sitting in that chair, or how many afghans were crocheted. . .what stories she must hide in her folds and crevices. Maggie, I believe, must live by the same creed as my little doxie Brigitte - "if I see it, it is mine!" Therefore, we must peek under every quilt, throw and pillow before we sit down to make sure we aren't about to sit on a little angel sleeping.

Merry Christmas! and Happy Thrifting!

Alison Gibbs

Love the granny room

Love the chair. I hope you get a turn to sit in it, put your feet up, and enjoy your beautiful surroundings this Christmas season. You are such a lovely person! I do hope you have a wonderful time with your family over the holdiays.

Sweet Cottage Dreams

Well, the "granny" chair looks like it is in tip-top condition and just right for Daisy Cottage! I love the colors in it, too.

Give Miss Maggie a little kiss on the forehead from Doogs and I.

What a darling chair! You have great taste and are so good at finding great stuff!

Merry Christmas to you!

Penny @ Lavender Hill Studio

Hi Kim,
Love, love, love the chair! I would have grabbed that in an instant! Obviously Maggie has wonderful taste too :-).

Thanks for the sweet post about Barbara Jacksier's Blog on my mosaics!!

The Decorated House

LOL, If it has Maggie's approval then it must be cute!

Hi Kim

What a sweet chair, and beautiful! You are a wonder at finding the goodies!

Becky from TN

Oh my, Kim, another great find at your Goodwill. I'm with Nikki....whenever I read/see the wonderful treasures you and Tina from Cherry Hill Cottage find, I always head to my local Goodwill and what a nightmare!!! I don't think even you or Tina could find something there worthy of taking home!! Of course, it could be my less than creative vision, too. I probably wouldn't have even given your little "granny" chair a second look and it is sooooo cute in your home~~~~~of course, it could be because of adorable Maggie resting so peacefully on it!!!! Our doggies and kitties always like to try out anything "new" that comes into our home! I'm sure Maggie is just testing it for you to make sure it is nice and comfy! I enjoy seeing pictures of your home and, especially, sweet little Maggie! Has your "baby" made it home?? I can remember those days waiting for MY "baby" to get home for the holidays!! Merry Christmas, Kim, and Happy Holidays to you and your family! Becky

Well this Granny thinks you found a really cute chair for Maggie - she looks so comfy in it. It sure fits your cottage to a 'T' Kim - the style and colors. You certainly find the bargains.

Have a fabulous Christmas with your famils - and blessings for the coming year.
Hugs - Mary.

P.S. Tracey's 2007 Holiday House Tour tomorrow - hope you stop by my cottage!

Hi Kim! I love your granny chair! a few years ago, I found a granny chair of my own at our local Goodwill.I have a lot of "grandma-esque" things in my house as well. It's such a wonderfully cozy feeling to be tucked into a home that reminds me of the long ago days of my childhood and visiting my grandmothers' homes.I love reading your blog for this very reason. Merry Christmas!

you really do have the best Goodwill ever! i like the chair, too, but i never find anything that nice at my goodwill :( i'm learning to knit, so my whole house will likely be filled with knitty stuff, too, although, I think I'm going to tackle some crochet blanket/afghans first. :)

I'm a HUGE FAN of Granny Chairs too! That one is too cute - I love the colors! It's amazing how we can always make room for one more....I can never pass them up either - just makes things more cozy!

I love that chair. I would like to have 2, just like it. You really have a great Goodwill and you probably know about when they get new things in. You do find wonderful treasures!

that is not a granny chair - its a Maggie Chair!

Just love your new chair! I love it that Maggie is testing it out for you too! She looks like just the sweetest little dog. What personality that little stinker has!
Have a Merry Christmas!

Rose @ Classic Charm

I get inspired to go to last week I went on my lunch hour and what a mistake, the place stunk of old...and everything was just junk - can you send some of your Goodwill treasures to our store? HAAAA!!!! I didn't find one thing, left there in a hurry!
PS - Your chair is soooo adorable!!!!

Dearest Kim,
I had to go back and reread three times that I understood you bought this chair for 25 cents. I still can't believe it. You can't even buy a paperback at Goodwill anymore for 25 cents. I swear you have a "guardian angel" watching for you. LOL

Maggie looks adorable in "her" chair. LOL She take such a cute picture.

Love the granny chair - being a "granny" myself and an avid reader, I would very much like to try that chair out.

Barbara Jacksier

Looks like someone besides YOU loves the chair. That's what pups specialize in -- seconding our perfect opinions.

I love your Granny Chair! I love it even more with your Maggie snuggled in it!

Cottage Contessa

Great chair Kim, looks a lot like one we have here. Maggie looks very comfy in HER new chair! lol If you get a chance Kim, pop by my blog to enter the 100th post give away!

I love your sweet Maggie. Merry Christmas

What an incredible treasure! And another find at Goodwill -- very well done indeed! And dearest sweet Maggie -- that is surely her chair now! Bless her!

Jan at Rosemary Cottage

The chair is gorgeous, would not have guessed it came from a goodwill store. You are so clever.:)

melissa @ the inspired room

Maggie knows that Grandma chairs are the best for getting cozy! What a great chair!

Elaine L.

Great chair and in such good condition.

Goodwill must widely vary from one city to another. Ours is pathetic and the prices are
high - definitely no $25 chairs.

Oh Kim, you always find the greatest things! And how perfect does Miss Maggie look ensconced in that chair? I think you need to make a little pillow that says: Maggie's Chair!"

Ah, Miss Maggie knows a good thing when she sees it! The chair is lovely! I would have bought it too if I had room to put it somewhere. Looks great!

What a wonderful find. It seems Maggie always has the best spot in the house too.

Happy holidays!

Barbara @ Southern Lady's Vintage

Looks like Maggie thinks it's the best! Great find! Gotta love Goodwill!
Southern Lady's Vintage

Maggie let me know that you really DID buy the chair just for her! She looks perfect in's a dog's life!

Maggie let me know that you really DID buy the chair just for her! She looks perfect in's a dog's life!

I'm new to your blog but I think I've found a kindred spirit with Goodwill stores....I'm a confessed addict....I have found so many treasures throughout the years.....sometimes I count things in a room that came from Goodwill and wonder about the people and the stories they could many as 20 different things....

Merry Christmas to you....I'm showing my home this week on my blog...Betty @ Country Charm

Love that Maggie. I think my Asta could fall for her.

Sher's Creative Expressions

Kim, I'm envious of all the great "finds" you find at the "Goodwill." Ours are nothing like this. My parents winter in Florida and told me that they have the best Thrift stores (unfortunately, due to the elderly population - whose family just come down and get rid of all their possessions when they pass on).

Maggie seems to be the kind of pup who would be comfortable anywhere as long as she's with you.

You certainly are the Queen of thrift shopping!
how do you do it!! Do you ever run out of space in the cottage!!
Maggie sweet Maggie...just love her!! Cute!
hugs hop along NG xo

I would love to visit your Goodwill, I never find the treasures you do but I do keep on looking because you never know when you'll find something special.

I am having a GIVEAWAY at Bren's Little Cottage, please sign up..

:) Bren

Great bargain, Kim. It looks like it fits well in your granny room. Your critters cerainly seem to enjoy the chair even if no one else does.

I think your granny chair is cute. Maggie seems to really like it.

Angela (Cottage Magpie)

Too cute! And I love hearing about thrift store scores--it's proof that there's good thrifting karma out there!
~Angela :-)

That is so cute! I think Maggie has claimed that chair Kim.

sweet Maggie wrapped in crochet......
tracy x

um, send her over here to snuggle with me in my granny chair. anytime. xoC

Debbie (Andrew's Nana)

Hi Kim,

Just writing to wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas! It is snowing here and looks so pretty! I remember those days of Scott coming home from Florida Southern for the holidays. Enjoy your daughter being home. It's like that old Folger's commercial! You would just love the vintage store that I manage. Our website is 10,000 sq. ft. of bargains!!!! Love the chair!!!!!

good gosh!!! i have got to get to this goodwill! i can't stand it! don't you just love love love goodwill???!!! : ) happy holidays, karri

I like that and I love your test in decorating, come and visit me.I'll be glad to see you there

25 $? Wow, what a great find! I would have taken it right away! It's adorable, it's lovely, cute, beautiful, whatever. Love it, and the throw as well! By the way, Maggie has an exquisite taste! :-)

The chair has Maggie's stamp of approval - so it must be great! (It IS great - what a find!) Have a wonderful Christmas!

Oh Kim, you DO find the most wonderful things at Goodwill!! I am very glad Maggie approves, too! She is so precious!
I wanted to thank you so much for your beautiful words regarding my Henry. They mean so very much to me, Kim!
Hugs from the doxie girls and Nan to you and Maggie.

Hi, I actually like the wall color in this picture. Can you tell me the color and where you got it?

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Tracy!
