My daughter and her friends like to refer to our family room as the "granny room" seeing as how it is filled with older furniture and lots of knitty things - like sweet doilies and colorful comfy throws. And even though I have been busy with Christmas shopping, I am NEVER too busy to check in with my beloved Goodwill store. So I was THRILLED when I found this old granny chair there the other day. And YES, I'm probably the ONLY one in town who would think that it is cute... but I can't help it - I really do! I mean for $25, how could I NOT bring it home???? ;-)
Now I don't know if SHE thinks it is cute or not, but obviously she thinks it is comfy..
Sigh. Maggie, Maggie, Maggie. What AM I going to do with you?????
I think your new Granny chair is very cute! Don't you just love to imagine the little lady who must've occupied this chair and wonder what she was like?

This chair must have "good bones", right Maggie? THe chair looks so comfy and just right for your room...
Don't you just love Goodwill!!!

I do wish I had a Good Will like yours around. I have the SA and VV, but neither have such lovely things as you find. BTW, I think your granny chair is lovely. So nice that it found a home where it will be loved, by you and Maggie!

Looks like Maggie has already claimed that
chair as her own. Who can blame her, it
suits her to a tee.
The afghan and chair also seem to be a
good match. What a cozy nest she has found.
Reminds me of our little dog--we found a
used wing-back chair and he claimed it as his own.
I was glad that he had such a comfy chair
for his last few of years of life--
still miss him.

Once again, you came home from your Goodwill with a winner! I remember having drapes made out of fabric very similar to this fabric. I always thought they were so pretty. I had them in Nashville TN...I had maple furniture, very "Early American"...this was the early 60's. I loved it. When I see a piece of fabric like this or maple furniture it always reminds me of when I lived in Tennessee.

Kim,
That chair is great, you have the best luck at Goodwill.
I think Maggie's just checking the chair out for you to make sure it's comfortable, she's a "working" dog like mine - always there to make sure things are just right!

LOL Jill!
No, I move things and rotate them around ALL the time.. this granny chair bumped the brown wicker chair into our bedroom. I also trade off with my sister alot of times too.

I have never found a good upholstered chair at my thrift store and now you have found ANOTHER one (I still remember the blue/green one in one of your posts). Pretty fabric, cool shape, and it looks comfortable...wow!

Wow Kim, that is the best find ever!!! I'm with Maggie, it's very cozy and worthy of some snuggle time being spent right there with that blankie :)

I cannot believe the great stuff you find at Goodwill. You inspired me to go to my local Goodwill one day and it was horrible.
Also I love the new font and color on the blog!

I love your new "granny" chair! Can't help but wonder how many books were read while sitting in that chair, or how many afghans were crocheted. . .what stories she must hide in her folds and crevices. Maggie, I believe, must live by the same creed as my little doxie Brigitte - "if I see it, it is mine!" Therefore, we must peek under every quilt, throw and pillow before we sit down to make sure we aren't about to sit on a little angel sleeping.
Merry Christmas! and Happy Thrifting!

Oh my, Kim, another great find at your Goodwill. I'm with Nikki....whenever I read/see the wonderful treasures you and Tina from Cherry Hill Cottage find, I always head to my local Goodwill and what a nightmare!!! I don't think even you or Tina could find something there worthy of taking home!! Of course, it could be my less than creative vision, too. I probably wouldn't have even given your little "granny" chair a second look and it is sooooo cute in your home~~~~~of course, it could be because of adorable Maggie resting so peacefully on it!!!! Our doggies and kitties always like to try out anything "new" that comes into our home! I'm sure Maggie is just testing it for you to make sure it is nice and comfy! I enjoy seeing pictures of your home and, especially, sweet little Maggie! Has your "baby" made it home?? I can remember those days waiting for MY "baby" to get home for the holidays!! Merry Christmas, Kim, and Happy Holidays to you and your family! Becky

Well this Granny thinks you found a really cute chair for Maggie - she looks so comfy in it. It sure fits your cottage to a 'T' Kim - the style and colors. You certainly find the bargains.
Have a fabulous Christmas with your famils - and blessings for the coming year.

Hi Kim! I love your granny chair! a few years ago, I found a granny chair of my own at our local Goodwill.I have a lot of "grandma-esque" things in my house as well. It's such a wonderfully cozy feeling to be tucked into a home that reminds me of the long ago days of my childhood and visiting my grandmothers' homes.I love reading your blog for this very reason. Merry Christmas!
Posted by: Marge | December 18, 2007 at 05:50 PM
you really do have the best Goodwill ever! i like the chair, too, but i never find anything that nice at my goodwill :( i'm learning to knit, so my whole house will likely be filled with knitty stuff, too, although, I think I'm going to tackle some crochet blanket/afghans first. :)
Posted by: Diana | December 18, 2007 at 06:34 PM
I'm a HUGE FAN of Granny Chairs too! That one is too cute - I love the colors! It's amazing how we can always make room for one more....I can never pass them up either - just makes things more cozy!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Kim,
I get inspired to go to Goodwill....so last week I went on my lunch hour and what a mistake, the place stunk of old...and everything was just junk - can you send some of your Goodwill treasures to our store? HAAAA!!!! I didn't find one thing, left there in a hurry!
Hugs,
Rose
PS - Your chair is soooo adorable!!!!

Dearest Kim,
I had to go back and reread three times that I understood you bought this chair for 25 cents. I still can't believe it. You can't even buy a paperback at Goodwill anymore for 25 cents. I swear you have a "guardian angel" watching for you. LOL
Maggie looks adorable in "her" chair. LOL She take such a cute picture.
Love the granny chair - being a "granny" myself and an avid reader, I would very much like to try that chair out.
Hugs,
Connie

Great chair and in such good condition.
Goodwill must widely vary from one city to another. Ours is pathetic and the prices are
high - definitely no $25 chairs.

I'm new to your blog but I think I've found a kindred spirit with Goodwill stores....I'm a confessed addict....I have found so many treasures throughout the years.....sometimes I count things in a room that came from Goodwill and wonder about the people and the stories they could tell...as many as 20 different things....
Merry Christmas to you....I'm showing my home this week on my blog...Betty @ Country Charm

Kim, I'm envious of all the great "finds" you find at the "Goodwill." Ours are nothing like this. My parents winter in Florida and told me that they have the best Thrift stores (unfortunately, due to the elderly population - whose family just come down and get rid of all their possessions when they pass on).
Maggie seems to be the kind of pup who would be comfortable anywhere as long as she's with you.
Blessings,
Sher
