Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Am I really the first to comment. Wonderful pictures. The door knobs are gorgeous. I love those glass ones.

Mockingbird Hill

Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos! My office is in Mount Dora and the old downtown area is just like's such a wonderful place. Woudn't it be great to hear the stories these cottages could tell? These charming neighborhoods are not so easy to fine here in F-L-A!

The feathered nest

Love those door knobs! Those lucky people! I was happy to see the rain barrels. They looked really nice and blended in well with the house and landscaping. That was a fun tour!

Wow! What a stroll! Thanks for taking us all along with you. My great aunt of many years ago had all those glass door knobs.
Brought back pleasant memories. Life was so different back then wasn't it?

Mary Alison

Thanks for taking me along. And I thought I was in Arizona all day yesterday. Who knew? What fun are precious details like doornobs.

That was so much fun. Historic House Tours are my favorite. Unfortunately when we have them her, they don't allow inside photos. Come visit me sometime when you have a minute. I am just learning, but hoping to improve.

Those door knobs remind me of my husband's mom's old house. She had every single one and now I wish we'd taken them before she sold that place! Thanks for the tour, that was fun :)

Have a wonderful Sunday.

How nice to join you! It's a lovely neighborhood, and that grey cat looks exactly like my Sophie.

Oh so lovely! I love St. Petersburg and that neighborhood is fabulous. I am ready to pack my boxes right now and move! What lovely pictures, thanks so much for sharing your tour. xo, suzy

It looks like my cat made it all the way to Florida from Washington state to sit on that sunny fence. I'm glad she's back at home now :) Those are beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing.

i just discovered your blog and i absolutely love it! i also love your sweet doggie :)

my grandfather (who passed away before i was born) took one of those doorknobs and turned it into a ring, making it look like a giant diamond. my brother used it when he proposed.

wonderful pics!!

Love those pics! I love those glass door knobs. I have a few rooms in my house that I would love to have those knobs on the doors of! :) Looks like you had a wonderful time and got to see lots of beautiful houses! Have a wonderful Sunday.

Jen @

Well, what a nice "walk" on an early Sunday morning - thanks! I love door knobs and all sorts of architectural details. When we were in Jackson Hole this past October, I took photos of old doorknobs - most people just looked at those and said "huh - you took pictures of doorknobs??" They just don't get it - "bless their hearts"! Anyway, nice to know I'm not alone in my appreciation of all things old, rustic, photographic and good!

Hi Kim, thanks for taking us along. I know I certainly enjoyed the tour. Those glass door knobs are so priceless. Very special find in a home these days.

jean @sweet nothings

Thanks for the wonderful tour. I do love those kind of tours more than any others. Not nearly as interested in new constructions.
I also love your ability to see "pretty" in so many things...from kitty cats on a porch to the brick steps. Awesome ability!

Thanks for taking us along, Kim. This was fun, you captured all the wonderful details.

You really got me envy your trip. So many lovely houses. I especially loved the door knobs (we don't have doors like that here in Sweden) and the bathroom with the old tub. Wouldn't it be great taking a bath there LOL?
Hope you have a great week.
Love Elzie

Such pretty eye candy...what wonderful pictures!!
Although Miss Daisy is the Queen hands down!!

Oh Kim, you were literally no more than 5 minutes from me!! You had to drive right past the avenue I live on if you took the 4th Street exit off I275. Wish I had known you were coming; it would have been fun to meet up with you. And you could have stopped in to see my new RED bedroom, totally inspired by your darling office! :D

Rose @ Classic Charm

Kim - thanks for the tour, I really enjoyed it....especially the sweet kitty! Rose

Yay - the best way to take a tour! My feet don't hurt at all, and I know you picked the best parts to photograph. Thanks! :)

We are lucky enough to have many of the original (1930's) doorknobs, although we've had to buy some reproduction ones too.

Hi Kim,
Thanks for the wonderful tour! What a great place. Loved it.

nikki brey

Thank you!

I loved going on the tour with you! Let's do it again sometime. My favorite? The purple door and chimney. It was all so wonderful. Thanks for the invite. ~Adrienne~

Robin~Thrifty Miss Priss

Oh what fun! Thank you for sharing all the beautiful photos! My favorite was the yellow cottage with the downspouts going into the rain barrells! Also the claw foot tub with the sun shining in....just beautiful!

Alison Gibbs

Kim, thanks for taking us on tour with you. The details in your photos were fabulous. I loved the letterbox that is the same as the house!! perfect. So many wonderful things.
Thanks Alison

Great Post Kim! You have to visit the Bungalow Heaven neighborhood if you are ever in Pasadena, Ca. We love our bungalow and love to see others when we travel. Aren't they just warm and welcoming houses?

Hi Kim! I have loved glass door knobs since I was a little girl. My grandmothers' and Aunts all had glass knobs on their doors. I grew up in Phoenix and there was not a lot of these around. We'd vacation every year in the Northwest, where my family originates, and the first thing I looked forward to was seeing those beautiful crystal knobs that looked like giant diamonds.Years later, I relocated back to the Northwest and guess what...I have a house with glass knobs! Thank you for the tour, I can't get enough of historic homes especially the cottage variety.Your blog is fab!

Just beautiful, thanks for the tour. The trims on my house are the same colour blue as on one of those houses. Wish I could reach the higher windows so I can finish them off!

thanks for the tour! how much fun you must have had. i loved that clawfoot tub, and the sweet little kitty!

Now that's a gorgeous neighborhood! You really captured the ambience & wonderfulness of it all. those kitties were sweet too!

Enjoyed the tour! Love the pretty glass doorknobs and that great old honeycomb floor tile.

Greetings from Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands! Since discovering your site a few weeks ago, I've become addicted and keep checking it every day! I feel we're truly kindred spirits! My home, Sea Spray Cottage, is on the edge of a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea and I get up every morning thanking God for my many blessings! I recently bought a cobalt blue glass doorknob set from Antique
Hardware and Home at as I'm about to start building a small one-bedroom cottage for my retirement years. I'll keep on reading as long as you keep on writing!

Thanks for posting these -- I really enjoyed looking at all the little details and collections! And the kitty pictures made it perfect!

Kevin (DH)

I'm blown away with your ability to see what others overlook. I obviously missed a lot of eye treasure yesterday...

Penny @ Lavender Hill Studio

Betty @ She's Sew Pretty

Beautiful, beautiful tour. I can't decide which picture I like the best. I love those old black and white tile floors. I have an old glass door knob tucked away in a box somewhere. I'll have to find it now.

Thank you for the tour! Everything was just lovely! Have a great week!

Barbara @ Southern Lady's Vintage

Thanks for the trip Kim! Love the stained glass in the one house and all the beautiful glass door knobs. Beautiful!'
Thanks for sharing the photos!

What a lovely way to spend a day, my favourite picture was of the wooden cupboard and i loved the cats too. I'd love to live in one of those beatiful houses.

Now that was fun! Since I spent the day being sick, I am glad to know I had some fun sometime during the day! I loved the purple doors and the cats!

Thanks for posting all those lovely photos!

Thanks for the tour. I have glass door knobs but have never thought to take pictures of them until now. I tried to pick a favourite photo from the tour but they are all so good that it is not possible to pick just one. Great photo's Kim.

Susan Ramey Cleveland

Wonderful tour. Thanks. I love door knobs. Who was it?--the guy in Peter Pan, maybe, who had lost his marbles--who loved door knobs and was bad to snitch them???? Do you remember?

Oh Kim, I love those old doorknobs! What beautiful houses -- thanks so much for taking us along on the tour. I am amazed to see all the flowers still in bloom in Florida, and I loved seeing all the kitties!

All the beautiful colors!!! And I have ALWAYS loved glass knobs...they remind me of my grandma's magical almost. I would have loved to take this tour...thank you for posting so many great pictures so we could see too! I love all the kitties too ;)

So lovely, magical and fun! I think Daisy Cottage needs a mini Daisy Cottage birdhouse!

Thanks for taking me along...I had a fabulous time!! Cheryl

I so love glass knobs to and collect them, I also love the porcelein ones too. I have some mini glass ones..about six...they came out of an old manision they were redoing. Smiles to you...

What a delight for my tired eyes. Can't thank you enough. Thanks for including the bathrooms -- I'm needing ideas and there is so little on the net.

Thanks for taking us on a tour of the vintage homes.

Hey Kim.... WOW - I've been to (and love) Mt Dora - but until I saw your beautiful area and now this one, I had no idea that Florida has such quaint communities....

Hmmm, I might just have to rethink moving to the Tampa area..... You'll be my "house hunter" won't you ???

Oh I loved the tour!! So much fun and so much to see. Thanks for being our photographer.

Kim: Thanks for the photo tour. It was lovely! My best friend lives in Palm Harbor and I've been to St. Pete's many times with her. I think I may have seen one or two of the houses on your tour. They also own a condo in St. Pete's. One of our Pgh sports legends has a restaurant there...Dan Marino?

The photo tour is a delight. Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures. I, too, think door knobs are the perfect cottage accessory. I love them!

Wow thanks very much for the tour - I just loved it!! I really enjoyed your blog!

That Jill

It was such a wonderful day! Seeing it all from your perpective is like having a totally different experience. You are such and artist with your words and your photography.
Can't wait to do it again next year!

I have several of those knobs in my own house and I, too, love them!
When we changed some out to newer models, I saved the old glass knobs.
I also try to buy them at flea markets, they're just beautiful!

Shabby Rose ~ Sandra

Wonderful pictures, I feel like I just had a mini vacation.

Thank you! That was lovely!

Hi Kim,
These are such beautiful pictures! Thank you very much. It's always a delight to stop by your blog.

I love bungalows above all style of homes. It was such a treat to see these! One of my sons rented a bungalow in Thornton Park in Orlando for a while. I loved seeing all the restored homes there on the brick paved streets.

Thank you for a flash of home!! I am from DeLand and have spent lots of time in the Largo, St. Pete and Tampa areas!! Loved the flowers and the kitties!!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
