I bought an old buffet, made in 1914, from my neighbor Ashlee's estate sale. This belonged to Ashlee's great-grandmother, Kate, who lived on Sanibel Island, Florida, way back in the day when you could only get to the island by boat. I love knowing the history of vintage pieces. Kate also had this buffet in her old house for many years in a neighboring town. Now it is in its' new home, our dining room. I promised Ashlee that we would love it dearly.
And, as these things usually go, the arrival of Kate's buffet prompted some rearranging. The other dining room cabinet was moved to the opposite wall from the buffet and the red mirrors were rehung... I'm looking for more of these plastic mirrors to paint red and add to the grouping -
Moving the cabinet has now given us a nice blank wall. My dear, sweet, kind, generous sister is going to paint us a "daisy painting" for the space! Of course I'll share that with you when she is done. I've been busy going through old linens and filling the new buffet with freshly washed glasses and serving pieces. I've also been having fun playing with the flowers and cushions that Fifi passed along to me and setting out different dishes. The little black & white dish is from Target. They have these on their seasonal shelf and they are sold individually, so they are nice and cheap! We'll be hosting Thanksgiving here so I'll be clearing off the table and resetting it for the holiday, but until then I'll enjoy the changes AND ESPECIALLY Kate's beautiful buffet!
How wonderful to have the history of such a piece of furniture. makes it even more special. Love the red mirrors, Do you have to seal the plastic frames with anything before you paint them.

OOh I do love a bit of colour in a home! Lovely side board, and the red highlights on the wall finish it all off beautifully!!

Such a nice piece! I am sure that Ashlee is delighted for you to have the buffet in your home knowing how much you love it.
Love your decorating sense and I'm still loving the music...takes me away as nicely as anything ever has. :)

The buffet is so pretty! I love the roosters that you have displayed on them! I am a rooster kind of girl! And as always, the pops of red color are perfect!

Oh, such clean, classic lines in the buffet. I know Ashlee is glad you got it instead of some stranger.

I LOVE your buffet. My Grandmother had one that looked exactly like yours. I know it was made by an old furniture co. in Philly. Wow to think the life your buffet has lived. Don't you feel like you adopted a new member to the family...all that history.
Best,
Kathy

I love both your buffets! I love how you combine painted and nice stained wood furniture.
I LOVE your mirrors and would never guess they're plastic. I wish I could find some of those. Are they painted "Richly Red"?
The black, white, yellow, red and green in your home go together well and look so rich.

How very pretty! When I was a child, we used to vacation in Ft. Myers Beach Florida. We would always pick a day to drive to Sanibel Island. It was such fun -- the seashells that you could find there were amazing. I would love to go again someday and take my children. I wonder if it's still the same? Thanks for stirring up some fond memories.

Your new buffet is beautiful, and it's so nice that it has found another home where it will be appreciated for another generation. Your painted mirrors are one of my favorites of your decorating, and the Target plate is a sure winner for Daisy.

gorgeous! I love the red and black and white! The red frames on the mirrors are really pretty too! I am getting ready to iron my Thanksgiving tablecloth- the brown with white appliqué. Let me know if you see any white porcelain turkeys anywhere when you are out and about!
