Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

I love your mirror collection. I've thought about doing that, but always had the notion that they needed to be similar - all wood framed, all frameless, etc. I like how yours are all so different and look so good together. I'm going to have to starting keeping my eyes out for fun mirrors....

I never knew Daisy Cottage had a second floor. From her front she looks so petite! Love the wall color too.

Esther Sunday

It's so lovely. We have a stairway landing that has baffled me for years because I don't want it clashing with what's going on in the entry way. Yours looks great.

Kim, you are a decorating genius! Your little touches are truly inspirational!

Susan Ramey Cleveland

Your house is so pretty. Makes me want to get to work rearranging and sprucing up everything here. But, sigh, I must quilt.

Hi Kim, I love the staircase and what you've done with it! How long have yall lived in that house? Its very pulled together :) Rosemary

Your photos are always gorgeous. Everything looks wonderful.

Dear Kim:
I´ve enjoyed reflections of your stairway!!!
You have a good taste!.I really love your beautiful and cozy home.
Hermosa casa!!!.

I always enjoy every lil thing you show me!xo

Daisy Cottage

Gracias chiquitas!
(Is that right? You'd think a native Floridian would know!) ;-)

Rosemary, we've been here for two years this month! :-)

I would love to do that in my stairway. Curious as to if you got the placement of the mirrors right the first time......just adding as you got them.....or are you mortal like the rest of us and needed to tweak the arrangement? Please pass on your secrets......we all want to be like Kim :-)

Daisy Cottage

Thank you Rosie!

I hang them as I get them.. and haven't moved one around yet. They go up the right side of the wall on the bottom part of the stairway, then they go up the left side of the wall on the second half of the stairway.

Sher's Creative Expressions

Kim, I love the sage paint color. Do you happen to remember the color name and brand? It's so warm and cozy.

That light from the estate sale is just beautiful. Very vintagy.

Your mirror collection is beautiful. I never thought about combining such different colors and finishes. The landing is so inviting! Everything is beautiful. Cheryl

Daisy Cottage

Thank you everyone!
Sher, the paint is Laura Ashley's "Olive #4" by American Traditions and can be found at Lowe's. :-)

Hi Kim! How BEAUTIFUL! Your "cottage" is so wonderful! I love your site and Cherry Hill Cottage and visit every day. You and Tina are amazing! I love the white!! By the way, I also love your music....Last Date and the theme from A Summer Place are two of my absolute favorites. We must be kindred spirits. :)

C. Stower

Oooooooooooooh!!! I love it! It is so picturesque, dear Kim. How do you do it?!?! You are one talented gal. Cindy

Beautiful! Beautiful!! Beautiful!!! The "Stairway to Heaven" of decorating. Love it all (as usual) right down to the color-coordinated books!

Oh I have missed this place! I was so excited to be able to sneak on and stop by to peek. I love that light fixtue and that table is just so cute! What finds.

Just wanted to pop in and say Hello :)

Just when I think Daisy Cottage can't get any more charming, you post something like this! It's wonderful! I enjoy visiting your blog.

Hi Kim,

Your home is so delightful. I love peeking in to enjoy your beautiful decorating style. The warmth comes through like a big cozy hug. I love your stairway and those mirrors are perfect.

Hope you are having a great day!

Looks so pretty! I love that light.

Oh my gosh, I love, love old mirrors. Well mirrors that are ornate anyway. This looks very inviting!

Good Morning Kim....

Did I ever tell you that I LOVE surprises LOL, what a cute post I'd forgotten there was an upstairs @ the cottage !!! Thanks for the peek....

Kathy :)

Kari C.

Just beautiful! I love your wall with all the mirrors. I've started collecting some mirrors for a wall in my bathroom and love the look.

Angela (Cottage Magpie)

Goodness, you're amazing! That stair wall is absolutely gorgeous--and I love the table at the top with the urn of flowers and the shells. I'm jealous! My old house had a stairway, but my new one doesn't. It's better for living, but not as charming. Great photos! ~A :-)

Hi Kim. I am here again.
Yes, It is correct to say: "Gracias chiquitas"!. And you can also say ..gracias chicas!!!.
I came back to see your wonderful white table.XOXO. Marcela

jean conklin

I love your mirror wall. I have one in my long, narrow entry and painted all the frames white. Right now, I have a white wall there, too, and want to paint the wall to make the mirrors show up better. Cindy over at MY ROMANTIC HOME has a beautiful collection of mirrors, as well. Thanks for sharing yours with us. I hope you will come over and see me sometime.

I LOVE the white on white theme. And the mirrors - how perfectly sweet!

Amanda (aka Cottage Contessa)

Kim, you've done it again!Gorgeous as always. I got so excited to learn that dear Daisy Cottage had a second floor! Double the fun & beauty right?! I especially love the light fixture and the white you've got me thinkng.....inspired.

I like you stairway it is adorable. But I really love your book selections on the table I sense a kindred spirit in the reading department!

Jennifer Grey

Great photos! Thanks so much for the inspiration. I especially loved those frames above the stairs. Fabulous!

I love it when you post pictures of an area of your home! So pretty!

Ohmylord, please come thrifting with me to cute-up my little house! :)

Your stairway looks wonderful. I love all the mirrors and especially the shells on the books. Beautiful!

Oh, Kim, pretty, pretty, pretty! I think every square inch of Daisy Cottage is just dripping with charm. You are truly my design guru! :)

The thing about Daisy Cottage is that your home is beautiful but it's more than the beauty Daisy cottage gives off a feeling of complete peacefulness and I and all your readers feel like we could come for a visit and drink iced tea with you on your porch and feel completely at home.
It's not just the home that makes us feel that way, it's also your complete hospitality.
Thanks for always being you and being so creative. :) Bren

The feathered nest

Love the thrifted mirrors and vintagey light! You're so lucky that your husband doesn't make you wait for projects to be done!!

Great pictures. Love the reflections. You are very creative.

So pretty!! I love the light fixture. My husband is good about those things too.
We are lucky.

oh, i just love that table, the mirrors, all of it. The urn that you have fifi's flowers in is so nice. I found one almost exactly like that at a tag sale for a dollar. Mine is ivory and looks like iron stone. It is truely the best way to find a treasures if i do say so myself!

tea time and roses

Hi Kim...

I love all your mirrors, and the light fixture is just lovely... I have missed so many of your beautiful post while out sick, and I have some catching up to do... You and your family have a wonderful week...

Loved you stairway reflections! Very pretty...and the light fixture is beautiful.

Just to say thanks for coming to see me today. I love that you like my kitchen. Our doors on the cabinets were just plain, solid plywood. I really hated to spend the money for new doors so, after pouring over magazines for months, I asked hubby if he could use his router and make them look a little like beadboard. I couldn't believe how much it changed the whole kitchen...added a little depth as well. Our house is a 1950's ranch..too old to be pretty and not old enuf to be interesting.'s home.

I particularly like the shells you put on the white table... I just re-read "Gift from the Sea" by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and thought of you...and here are some shells, just like in her book! If you haven't read it, I think you would like it.

Barbara @ Southern Lady's Vintage

Very nice! Love it!

Love ALL of it! Thanks for sharing.

Betty in Oklahoma

Love, love, love the white against the green. Great lines on the table too. As always...perfectly lovely Miz. Kim!

Alison Gibbs

Hi Kim, The mirrors look great and what a fabulous find that white table was.Fifi's dried flowers look so pretty in the white urn. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet Cottage Dreams

Miss Kim, you have such a way of pulling everything together is such blissful harmony. Always a treat to visit you and your charming home! Lovely light fixture and glad to hear that your husband doesn't mind his "honey do's."

Elaine L.

I would love to see a head on shot of the wall with the mirrors.

Elaine L.

I would love to see a full view of the wall with the mirrors!

You find the best "finds"! That shabby light is perfect, just the right ambience for your wonderful cottage and those Goodwill mirrors too, items loved once again - just the way it should be.

It is so sweet to hear Stranger on the Shore again!

love the mirror collection and it makes me want to go op shopping to find some vintage treasures. I am just in the process of painting and distressing my old pine furniture white and it is good to see your white furniture. It looks great with the green.

Penny @ Lavender Hill Studio

Lovely - and glad you have your Dad's song playing again :-)

Rose at Classic Charm

Love what you've done with the staircase...truly beautiful. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us! Rose

A lovely home - a lovely lady! You have "the touch" and I love to stop in and see new things. A dear friend of mine has a mirror wall up her stairway and a special table on the landing. Such a great idea. ~Adrienne~

Diane Duda

Very pretty! Especially the lighting fixture. I have the same exact one on my landing. ;)

I love your white table... it's so shabby chic... your collection of mirrors is lovely. Everything is wonderful!

How do you find these owesome things??? Wish I have the same luck.

How utterly charming!

Love your hallway, mirrors and your small white table is perfection. Just another unique spot in Daisy Cottage. Your vintage light is beautiful too. I hope I get to stay long enough in Florida to get to your Goodwill store. LOL

Thanks for another peek inside your little cottage. I love that you share your ideas and your love of treasure hunting with us all. You are a true inspiration to those of us who were innoculated with the "junque" bug at a very early age.

Your stairway reflection reflection is beautiful. . . and how very female of you to have all of those beautiful, little mirrors with NOT ONE single full length mirror among them that might reflect the side effects of our second passion - that of baking and sampling goodies.

God Bless!

Ooooh, Ahhh, kim! What pretty pics, I had no idea you had a little stairway. Must go to the attic. That little white table just speaks my name, I love it & all the things on it.

Gorgeous! Simply charming stairway dearest Kim! And your darling hubby did a great job hanging that pretty vintage light too!

Happiest Halloween! Jan at Rosemary Cottage

The Decorated House

Hi Kim,
I love it when you move furniture! LOL
The little table is so charming there. Your collection of mirrors just keeps getting prettier, especially with such a lovely place to reflect.

Love the mirrored stairway-beautiful.

Lovely Kim!! I *heart* that side view of all the frames on the wall. :)

This all looks so pretty Kim.
I love it all.

Always drooling when I come by! I have a wall that I arranged various mirrors!! I would feel very much at home in your cottage!

I absolutely love what you've done with the stairway. All those mirrors together look great. As does the little table. Have you thought about becoming an Interior Designer or Stylist? You really have the talent for it.

Thrift Shop Romantic

Oh what a beautiful stairway-- I love seeing areas like that that look like a million bucks but actually were thrifted or flea marketed. The landing has such a lovely upbeat vintage atmosphere.

I'm always amazed at how wonderful your mirror collections look!

I adore your stairway. I love the way those mirrors look. I really want to do a similar grouping in my own stairway some day.

melissa @ the inspired room

Hi Kim. I do love your little stairway! I am just beginning a mirror collection so it was inspiring to see them all hanging there so beautifully together! I'm not waiting until I have my whole collection to hang them, I just hung the ones I have so far at random, so they are still in their "awkward" stage! Yours is definitely lovely!

Kim, it's perfect!!!! It really does! I totally love it! You inspire all of us and I just want to say "Thank you" for that.

Kim - HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands.
