Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Amen to that !!!

Kathy :)

Susan Ramey Cleveland

I add my prayers as well for those in danger, both human and beast.

I know I am so worried about many of our California blogger friends. Our prayers are with them all. I am so glad your friend is safe!

what a sweet post, Kim. I pray and hope that everyone stays safe and the fires end soon.

I have been following Willow on her blog and she posted photos of the smoke...they are not even close enough to be in danger but are affected by it. I will join you in offering up prayers of safety for everyone. These things dwarf all the other little worries of the day!

Debbie L.

Amen Kim. I will be praying for their safety and much needed rain to quench these devastating fires. My heart just aches for them all.

Kim I am thankful your friend is safe.

Debbie L.

Teresa Alber

Very beautifully said.

Elaine L.

How sweet of you, Kim. I'm 30 miles away from 3 of the fires and lucky that the winds are blowing away from my town, so we aren't getting smoke.

This is an unbelievable tragedy. Currently one million people have evacuated their homes.

God Bless the Firefighters!

Thanks Kim, that was so nice and thoughtful of you. It's pretty bad for alot of people here. I can't imagine losing my house. Just keep praying for those who are in harms way.

Prayers for all involved!

I'm praying for all the folks and animals affected by the fires. How devastating!

What a sweet and thoughtful post.

My husband and I were just talking about this earlier this evening. It's so sad and scary.

Carrie@OakRise Cottage

Great post. I too, am concerned about the people in southern California. I was thinking today that when I lived in southern California we did'nt face any fires. How terrible it must be.
Thanks, Kim for expressing what many of us feel at this time.

Coming from Australia I really understand and I would imagine some of our firefighters will be called upon to help you all soon ,like we have before. It is all over our news.
Stay Safe everyone in CA

Betty Jo

I'm so glad your friend and her family are safe. My friend Kathryn who lives in CA and owns one of the stores where I sell, was evacuated but is now home again. Her home, and her mother's home were spared thank God. The devastation of those fires is so very sad and truly breaks my heart. We are getting some rain finally, so perhaps we won't have fire here in our mountains. I wish I could bottle the rain and send some of it to CA. Your photos in this post are gorgeous, as always. xoxo

Hi Kim, I'm catching up with all your recent posts and what some lovely things I have missed!

We have heard of the fires and can only imagine the horror of them.

Clare x

Hi Kim,
What a lovely post. I spoke with Heather Bullard yesterday from the Present Past Collection and she and her family are ok, but it's scary. Her home backs up to an open canyon. I am worried about all of our CA blogger girls and wish them safety during this nightmare.~ xo

The California fires have been uppermost in my mind, Kim. It's good to know you've heard from your friend!

My thoughts and prayers are with the people of southern CA.

So glad your friend and her family are safe. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone there. To lose a home is so much more than just losing a roof over your head. We blog every day about making our houses a home filled with comfort and memories -- I cannot imagine losing all that!

Daisy Cottage

I know Mary, I can't either.

A wonderful thought. I just heard about the fires on the news.

devastating! the news here and the photos heartbreaking:( such a beautiful part of the country...I pray for all involved.

Hi Kim,

That is so sweet of you. We're safe where we are (about 25 miles from Malibu) but my heart goes out to our neighbors in the surrounding cities. The smoke in the air is unbelievable. At this point the fires here are looking like they are calming. San Diego is getting the worst of it now.

Thank you Kim for creating a post where we can join our hearts together for those caught in the fires.

xoxoxo Elizabeth

my friends are one block from the evacuation area. They are flying into houston today, for quilt market. i hope their home is okay while they are gone!

Now, what is that plate in the last pic with the red flowers! Rose

Thanks for the wishes!!
We here in Southern California appreciate it.
So glad your friend is safe.

It is pretty smoky and nasty! I feel for our dear friends who have lots their homes....two of our personal friends here have lots homes so far.....six others are evacuated! cousin's husband got to fly our Mr. Schwarzenegger to the scene the other day! Hope the winds die down soon! We can smell some smoke here, several hours away!

Kim...yes let us keep all of those people in our hearts and prayers...Thank you for your thoughtfullness. Rose

What a lovely post, your words and photos are so endearing. Yes, let us all send out thoughts and prayers to those in CA right now. My daughter lives just outside Orange County, so I've been in constant contact with her. It's just so sad to see all the devastation! I wish and hope that all will be safe!

Alison Gibbs

Lovely post Kim. Here in Australia we are also seeing the tragedy unfold. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the fires.

Sweet Cottage Dreams

Beautiful...thank you for doing this. It is tragic to hear that so much of our state is on fire and to know that so many families have lost their homes. So heartbreaking. I am glad that our Gov. Arnold is so supportive!! xo, Becky

Mary Isabella

Beautiful. I am still praying for all in the path of these fires. Blessings Mary

Thank you Kim for starting this post....God bless and care for all of our California family and friends. Remember "Sometimes God calms the storm, and sometimes He allows the storm to rage and calms His child"...
Blessings and calm to everyone,

What a lovely post, Kim! My sentiments exactly - I have been very concerned for all my blogger friends and my niece and her husband who live down there. Peace and love to all!

It's so like you to be thinking about others, Kim; you have such a caring nature. My office is just a few miles from one of the fires; since Monday, our office has had smoke inside that we've been breathing and smelling, eyes red and irritated, coughing. It's nasty. Co-workers have been evacuated. I've had a headache since Monday. My car looked like there had been a light snowfall when I left yesterday, dusted entirely with ash and soot. As I left home this morning, flakes of ash as big as my fingernail were falling from the sky.
Our firefighters and other service personnel (officers going home to home to evacuate people) are true heroes. So many homes lost, so many tears, so much sorrow. I've posted a bit about it on my blog, too. ( - The Center of My Self)

Thanks so much for your's so devastating. I have been calling and checking on friends all week...but found out last night that my brother was finally able to get through to his house and nothing is left my ashes. No one died..thankfually but I so hope he was able to get our family pictures out. My Mom lives with him and has all of the family photos of when we were growing up and several scrapbooks I have given her over the years as gifts...if they all burned I feel as if my history would be erased but thankfully they are safe. thanks again for your thoughts.

I love that little bird!

We have so many friends in San Diego from our Navy days and some in LA as well. Several were evacuated in SD. One came so close to losing everything. I will remember the fires the Summer we lived in SD. This year's are just horrible.

Many hugs to you dear Kim. I do hope your friend and her family are well.

Thank You Dena!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Jeanette!

  • "Sigh.... between your music, red and yellow mellow feeling and wonderful writing I just feel so calm. What would I do without you in the morning with my cup of coffee." ~ Jeanette

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "What I love best about Daisy Cottage is Kim. I love the way you appreciate every good thing in life and embrace joy in every moment." ~ Rose

Thank You Lisa!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

  • "I am so touched by your words and photographs. Whether in happy or sad times, you inspire my heart and soul. We all need each other's light and you offer us that dose of sunshine." ~ Pamela

Thank you Joy!

  • "Your blog has helped me start to see the beauty in life again." ~ Joy

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

Thank You Tracy!

  • "Your words and thoughts of encouragement help me see myself with value. You are a blessing. Thank you." ~ Tracy

  • "Your humble spirit has not changed through your many posts here in Blogland. You have been blessed with a special gift and I am very thankful you share it with us." ~ Karen

Thank You Betty Jo!

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
