Beautiful Book!

Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Beautiful daughter, beautiful evening...wonderful memories!

Love Shannon's red shoes!!

Back Porch Musings

I see a beautiful and loving daughter raised by a beautiful and loving mother. Sharing and making beautiful memories to store away in your heart for years to come -that's motherhood.

Love DD's pictures and the red shoes.

Thanks for sharing this precious moment with us.

Goodness gracious she is a doll! The Day looked perfect. What a wonderful idea for the kids to eat in instead of going out. Im sure it will much more memorable as well. Hope they had a wonderful time. Tracy

She is just stunning, and I bet just that way on the inside as well.

Daughters are just so special aren't they. My baby is getting married at the end of July and its been so great spending extra time with her planning things.

The Feathered Nest

She's a beauty and I love her red shoes! I've cried at every major event of my daughter's from the first day in a Mommy's Morning Out Program, kindergarten, 1st ballet recital, everything! I'm sure I'll also be shedding a few tears when she goes off to her Prom (at least that won't happen for another 3 years). What a sweet post.

What a rite of passage. It must all feel so bittersweet for you. She looks like such a sweet person. You must be so proud of her :)

She is beautiful! It's so hard to see them grow up and leave. What wonderful memories you must have. Love those shoes!

I have a sophomore in high school I hear it goes by too quickly. Your daughter is lovely and I covet those red shoes!

You have good reason to be proud Kim...She is very pretty!

Oh how I understand those bittersweet feelings...our babie growing up...change...
What a lovely young woman. My baby is now 21....and she loves red shoes as well. Daughters are such fun! New banner? Love it!

Mrs. Staggs

Your daughter is beautiful Kim.
My son's prom was 2 years ago and I know what a bittersweet time you're going through. I've learned though, that the young adult years are bringing just as many wonderful moments...different, but really nice all the same.

What a beautiful girl! Buy stock in kleenex -- you're going to need it. You still have graduation(s), wedding .... the list goes on. Tears and mothers -- they just go together!

You have a beautiful baby Kim. I hope her evening was wonderful. Hugs for you mom!

You know I will never be completely away from could I?

Thank you for doing everything you could to make my prom so special...

This post means a lot to me...

I love you!

It's a Mom Thing

She looks beautiful! I love the dress and sassy red shoes. It's been fun going downtown the last few weekends and seeing all the guys and gals dressed up for prom.

I love the idea that they had dinner hosted by a friend's mom. That's so cool!

Angela Redekop

She is just a beautiful young woman. I had tears in my eyes, lol. My son Randan is also graduating from highschool in June. My goodness gracious, where did our babies go?
May God be gracious to your precious daugther and bless her and make His face shine upon her as she moves forward to new horizons and brigher rainbows. amen amen amen

Betty Jo

Oh My Kim! Your daughter is absolutely gorgeous, and I'm sure she takes after her mother in more ways than her love of red. I cried when my son went through all of these events, I am sure I would have cried even more if I had had a daughter. I so wish Shannon all the best in the exciting days ahead and wherever life may take her. Thank you for letting us share in these special moments and life-events of yours. xoxo

Robin Sherwood

Diane Duda

Your daughter is gorgeous! I love my boys but they don't giggle much like girls do and, well, they never wear pretty gowns! ;(

Belle Ah

Oh my, I would be all teary eyed as well. My dd is just finishing up her 1st year of high school and sometimes I find myself in a panic attack over what is to come and how I will cope as she lifts those wings ever so much closer to flight.

Your dd is just lovely and I send best wishes for all the wonders she will experience!

Shannon is gorgeous! and those red shoes, wow! I would have broken my neck, I agree with Meredith, the 80's were a nightmare for prom dresses.

NIcole Reed

How proud you must be Kim! She is just gorgeous, and looks like she will have the brightest future ahead of her! Anyone with such great taste in shoes will go far!

Seems like just yesterday that we were doing the same thing in my house. I passes too quickly. Nothing made me happier than on her wedding day when all her high school friends and some new ones from college were at our house getting ready to be her bridesmaids. All the hustle and bustle felt good again. Enjoy these moments but know that there'll be new ones to come along.

Your daughter is absolutly lovely!!!! I remember prom nights and all the excitment that comes with it. All four of my children made me cry when I saw them all dressed and glowing with excitment on their prom nights. There will be tons more special memories coming your way as you watch your daughter grow into a woman who loves red shoes just like he Mom.

Good Lord! What a stunningly beautiful daughter you have!! I bet she looks just like her momma!

charlotte lyons

She is so beautiful, you! That senior year is a rough ride, but the memories carry you a long way after. Nice to see that you are enjoying all of it. xoC

What a BEAUTIFUL daughter you have! You must be sooo proud! I would cry at the thought of my baby leaving the nest too! This is the second blog today I've read which discusses their daughter's upcoming high school graduation (Corey's was the other one). =)

Dorothy have much to be proud of. Not just a beautiful daughter, but a beautiful soul that shines through even in an image. They grow much too fast, in my opinion. Yes...cherish every second. Thanks for sharing this precious moment.

So pretty!!!
I loved those days too. My daughter will be getting married in October, the ultimate prom.

How fun. Your daughter looks lovely.

Stunning is all I can say--wow! How very lucky to have you for a mom, such a loving tribute to your little girl. xoxo

The Decorated House

Shannon, you are beautiful! Drink it in, and enjoy all those compliments. But more than how pretty you are on the outside, you have the same inner beauty as your mom. And we know where you got it from. Thank you for letting us see your sweet note.

Gooooo Seminoles! I know you are going to have such an amazing time at school. And your mom has us to keep her company so she won't go bonkers. :)

It's so fitting that Kim did a post about Shannon's senior prom and how she felt that evening. I have long said Kim is the absolute best mom on this planet. Her instinct, sacrifice and intuition are unmatched. Her parental love and guidance are every child's dream come true. Kim is the perfect mom and Shannon has a wonderful head start through life because of her.
Love, DH

Very pretty. Congratulations to her!

oooh, that brings back memories. it seems like yesterday they were babies and you blink, they are grown... i'm teary eyed. debbie

Baby Tease

You are a lucky mom, Kim. My son will never let me dress him up like that for his prom... Seriously, my very best wishes for her future. Kim.

She is a doll and what a good idea. Most of the kids around here go to restaurants. I love the idea of hosting a dinner for friends. Very cool.

Kim what a beautiful daughter you have. I'm sure the prom evening was full of special memories and you gotta love those red shoes, how cuuuuute.

T Sheeley

Love the new banner. Shannon is a beauty. The years go by too fast. My baby was married in Nov. The great thing about kids growing up and leaving and marrying is the

I love red, too, those shoes are adorable! ;)

Allie from Minneapolis

She's just gorgeous Kim! And I love those red shoes!!! I do my toes with a french manicure too (hers look great with the red shoes). Does she also share your love of vintage everything? I hope so, just as I hope that my daughter will. It's tough to see those school days coming to a close, and moving on to a different set of memories to come. She's just beautiful.

Helle Greer

She is a GEM... I bet she is excited to be done with High School, I have a Sophmore, and she can not wait to graduate, but first we will celebrate her sweet 16 this month.

I saw your daughters red shoes and it made me go buy some. I love them!

Your daughter is just gorgeous. I have four sons and we are expecting our first girl in August. I can't tell you how excited I am that I finally get to do all the "girly" things like buy pink outfits, go to ballet recitals, and help pick out pretty prom dresses! Your pictures of your adorable girl make me look forward to it even more!

The Blissful Home

Hi, Kim--

I absolutely love your blog and all of your gloriously lit photos. You have a way of finding just the right light. :)

I especially enjoyed the prom photos of your *beautiful* daughter. The picture of her feet in those red peep-toe shoes is terrific.

Thanks for introducing yourself on my blog. I will look forward to visiting your blog often!

She is beautiful Kim and she will "always" be your baby!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne
