Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

Love the pink flowered dress! Its perfect for your cottage~ and for one day..."Zoe"~ I've been missing you for last couple of days...Tina

How pretty! I just love the sweetness of the vintage dresses!

Kim, I love the dress. I love the colors and the design. I can definitely see why you couldn't leave it behind. It makes me smile.

That dress is gorgeous! I had a blue one similar when I was a little girl. I still remember it!

Love it! Now go find that dress form! It would be perfect.

Are those daisies on that dress? Perfect for Daisy Cottage.

Oh, I love "Zoe!" I can just see a wide brim pink hat with it!

I love your YELLOW house!

I am just sure that a wonderful flowere trimmed, wide brimmed hat is out there awaiting Zoe's approval. I an the same way...there are just things that call out to you and, try as you might, you can not leave them behind. What a sweet find!

The pretty dress brings back memories of my long Summer days as a child in England - we even played outside in dresses like that as there were no blue jeans! Wow - I'm showing my age I fear.

How pretty. Not surprised you couldn't leave it behind. I can see it with a big pink floppy hat.

I'm not kidding I did the same thing yesterday! I was in a thrift shop and bought a really fancy old dress for $2. I don't even have a daughter LOL!

What a pretty dress! It seems to go really well with your house.

Every now & then it's nice to have something pleasing to the eye 'just because'. It's most likely a reminder of a small 'something' from our past. Our past lets us know where we're heading in our future. Looks like you're on the right path. I think you did right by not passing this dress by.

Such a pretty dress! I adore that pink bow. You find the best things thrift shopping! I love the thought of it on a dress form in your office. What great inspiration!

Just because: I can imagine the gal who wore it long ago...always a bridesmaid never a bride* it's is so pretty and for me it is always how something makes me feel inside..gosh I miss my old dressform (regret I sold it) I'll post a pic of it from my old house maybe today

I like your "just because" what you love and you will always find a place for it.

All you need is the dress form and it's perfect! Almost looks like the dress I just painted for my greeting card :)

That is such a lovely dress. It reminds me of my grad gown. Am I dating myself?? I have my mother's grad dress also, I would love to have ideas on how to show it off, it is a heavy rose colored satin. I love vintage clothes too. Yours is especially pretty. Cindy S.

Well, that sweet dress does fit perfectly in your cottage, Kim. Wonder how old it is? Looks very sweet & feminine....although I can see why your daughter wouldn't be caught dead in it. We're just not into sweet & feminine much anymore...and that's too bad sometimes!

"Just Because" thats reason enough to purshase this lovely daisy dress. I hope you find a dress form soon since I would love to see it on display on your office. Great find Kim!!!

Oh, isn't that so pretty? And, I love it with those other pink items.

I am pleased to have found your blog (via just about every blog I have visited lately)! Very lovely dress you've found! I do love decorating with vintage clothing when I can find the perfect spot for it. We don't have any Goodwills out my way, and I do think I am missing something!
I will be back to visit your lovely blog!

Well Hello! Of course you had to buy it! First of's vintage...and secondly, it's covered in daisies..."Daisy Cottage" only makes sense that you should have it in your home. Duh! HAHAHAHA!!! Seriously, it's absolutely adorable...and had I been lucky enough to run across it...I would've bought it too. It's just too cute to pass up!

Just precious! And I love the color of the walls, in that room.

ooh, it's so pretty!! I love the pink daisies and it would look lovely on a dress form. When something calls to us to bring it home, we must answer!

Love the dress. Hope you find Zoe soon. I love to read your blog, I read it over and over.

Imagine my surprise to see a dress from my past! I was a bridesmaid in 1975. We each wore this dress in different color ways. (Mine was blue.) It was a pretty big deal because we had to go downtown Seattle to be fitted and each dress cost $60! That was a lot of money to me working at A&W for $1.65 plus tips! Thanks for a trip down memory lane. (By the way, the dress was really uncomfortable to wear and I never wore it again!)

That dress is simply fabulous!! I'm so happy you didn't leave it behind! She went home with the right person who will appreciate her and display her. If only the dress could talk... all those hidden memories... :)

Isn't that just beautiful? I adore your just-because-spontaneity Kim. xoxoxo

Thank you much for stopping by my blog.

Yes, we totally agree. We both seek "refuge" in and wish to provide "refuge" to others, by way of our style of blogging.

And you do such a magnificent job of this! Your 'Daisy Cottage' is soooooo beautiful and such a comforting place to stop by.

I'm so happy that I came across it, in my seeking ways to assuage my *frustrated* love of cottages. :-) Thank you for being here!

Adorable, as always! :)

Kim, I love this dress! It reminds me of a dress I had when I graduated from Jr. High. It looks very wispy and soft.
Very Spring-y!!!
Are those pink daisies?????

Xantis G'ma Pat

I love it! Brings back memories, for me!!

  • "Kim, I love your blog. I so appreciate you sharing every day. I miss you when you're gone. Losing my dear sweet baby boy in Iraq has made me treasure life and those so dear to me. Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Thank You Grace!

  • "I would like to let you know what a joy it is to wake up each morning and read your delightful blog. I always feel as if you are speaking directly to me. Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Thank You Francesca!

Thank You Kathy!

  • "I visited my friends with their tasteful beige homes and sometimes questioned if there was anyone else in this world who loved the things I did. Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. I never get tired of visiting here Kim." ~ Kathy

Thank you Rue!

  • "That hankie is like you and your blog Kim. In the middle of all of the other beautiful hankies, it's the one that stands out and makes you feel at home." ~ Rue

Thank You Lenna!

  • "My eyes have been opened to a world I never knew existed. Such vibrant creativity, such caring community: it literally takes my breath away. After so much loneliness and isolation it is overwhelming to me that such a world even exists. In time I hope to be able to fill my garden of life with lovely, loving friends instead of the weeds of loneliness. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. Your kind and generous response has strengthened my resolve, you have helped me more than you will ever know, my new-found friend." ~ Lenna

Thank You Rose!

  • "Here's how I can best describe into words how your blog made me feel. You know when you wake up in the morning and there's an early morning thunderstorm and every room in your house is as dark as night? Then, the rain and thunder stop and the sun comes shining through all the windows and you just know it's going to be a beautiful, sunshine day? Well, that's how finding Dear Daisy Cottage made me feel. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Kim. You blessed my day and may God do the same for you." ~ Lisa B.

Thank you Pamela!

Thank You Anne!

  • "Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have been "lurking" but had to share with you how much you have helped me embrace the fun of decorating. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home! I am laying here in bed with tears in my eyes - tears of happiness that it is okay to be me and let that shine through in my house and what I wear and what I make with my hands. You are God's gift to me today and I thank Him and you." ~ Anne

  • "You truly inspire me to do whatever I can in my own little nest. I've always been an artistic dreamer, but you've enlarged my dreams with your way of seeing." ~ Betty Jo
