Please make yourself comfortable and have a seat in our $10 rocking chair! I bought this a couple of weekends ago at the neighborhood college's yard sale. The wood on the bottom was badly chewed up by someone's dog and the stain was all worn off. I brought it home and my patient hubby sanded down and restained the areas ... making the rocker shabby-perfect and ready to rock in its' new spot.. though, I don't think anyone actually sat in the rocker during our neighborhood social last night. Everyone pretty much ended up socializing in the kitchen! Isn't that how it usually goes? Oh, we had SUCH a nice time and I think our neighbors did too! There was plenty of food, thank goodness, and they were all so appreciative of everything. They could not have been any nicer. I also love how "eclectic" we are as a group... just like our homes in this neighborhood, we are all unique. Yes, we are really blessed to live in a neighborhood that takes time out to be neighborly ..... still pinching myself every day.
What a wonderful welcoming rocking chair! And a bargain too! So glad that your neighbourhood party went so well -- and I just know that your guests were charmed by your cottage too! Our best parties start out as our neighbours simply stop by for a chat while standing on the front sidewalk -- and the next thing you know -- we have a crowd and a party! Your neighbourhood sounds great!!

Great find - it's just lovely. What a good idea to have a neighborhood party. Maybe when it warms up a bit, the margaritas will have to come out. Ooooh, this is the first time I've thought of Spring - must be your beautiful yellow house!

Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your neighbours. I think you've earned a nice lazy rock in your new chair...with a nice hot cuppa!

So pleased that everything went well and yes you are lucky to live in a nice community. Your ability to pick up a bargain is astounding, it takes vision to see treasure amongst the trash and that rocker has certainly turned out a treasure.

The rocking chair is really lovely and what a bargain too! So glad you had a lovely evening and that your neighbours enjoyed themselves. I love the fact that good parties always end up in the Kitchen!

Glad your neighborhood social came off without a hitch, and that you had a great time. I'd love to live in a neighborhood like that. We live in a traditional suburban neighborhood where everyone is always working or hurrying from here to there with nothing more than a casual wave and hello.

I love great finds like your refurbished rocker--how great is that! It's great to hear that your neighborhood gathering was a success although none of us are surprised whatsoever.

I love wicker. I think I would have had to sit in this for a while at the party.....but not until I had gone through your stack of gorgeous plates and picked out my favorite....and then added one of your red napkins ;-) Glad your party went so well.

What a wonderful rocking chair! It looks so at home right there by the fireplace. I'm sure it would look great anywhere in your house. The dark finish is perfect. Your hubby did a great job with it.

Kim I'm so glad your party was a success, as I knew it would be. I adore your rocker, and would love to sit in it a spell. How wonderful to have such a neighborhood. When hubby and I were first married we lived in just such a place, in Florida too, but since moving we never found that again. Perhaps we will in our new home.

What a bargain!! Hubby's efforts sure paid off. Looks great.

Love the rocker! I could curl up there with my cuppa and have a chat! :)
Glad the party went so well. We had a neighborhood like that in Texas and we really miss it. We always were amazed at how different we all were yet so neighborly. It surely warms the heart.
Cheers! LA

Kim, I'm so glad the party was a success. Gathering in the kitchen always seems to be a sign of people being comfortable and feeling at home!
I love the chair! I need 2 just like it but in white. I never find good deals like the ones I've been seeing on the blogging sites lately. You girls have all the luck!

That is a wonderful rocker find, Kim! I found one too a few years ago at a yardsale, but sure didn't get it for such a steal as yours. But, I didn't have to do anything to it, so I guess it's just as well. It's waiting with all my wicker stash in the garage, hoping for another screen porch one of these days. I'm not about to get rid of it all. Your neighborhood get-together sounds so nice...wish neighborhoods were more friendly these days, ours is not so much. Maybe I should start the ball rolling with it!
