We have the neatest, locally owned hardware store nearby. Actually, it is located right by the grocery store where I shop. Even when Home Depot and Lowe's rode into town, this store not only survived, it flourished! Yes you can find nuts and bolts and hammers and nails BUT on the left-hand side of the store you can ALSO find pretty household things. Things that you just wouldn't expect to find in a regular old hardware store. Like these pretty red floral "picks" - or whatever you call them. I thought they would be a nice little pop of happy color for the table. I felt kind of guilty being in line behind the customers with their newly-made keys, rolls of wire, plumbing supplies, and chain link. You could tell that they had some serious projects on their mind and that they just wanted to get home and get to work on them. I, however, just waited patiently with my four little floral thingys, playing in my head as to how I was going to use them. When it was my turn, I happily paid for my purchases and went about my business of going grocery shopping. Yes, I think I like these kind of hardware stores! They carry the IMPORTANT STUFF! ;-)
Sooo cute! That pop of red looks great on the white plate.Nice! They look like the vintage millinary flowers dont they?

Love the picks...so pretty and the shade of red is just perfect!
We have a Crowder Bros. hardware store near where I live in Florida that sounds like your hardware store. I actually like it when my hubby says he needs to get something there...because I shop in "my section".

Who would have thought to use floral picks for adding beauty to napkins and plates. So very very pretty. Great idea, but then I always get great ideas when I visit Daisy Cottage
Thanks for sharing - Karen

We have a place like that near me too! I just discovered it...I had avoided it for awhile b/c i thought it was just about nuts and bolts but i went in one day for a drawer knob and saw so many fabulous household items...except our homey stuff is on the right side of the store...hehe. I'm planning on hitting them up in a few weeks so i can plant some flowers in some pots on our porch! they have lots of gardening stuff too!

Goes to show just how important those small but wonderful shops/stores are to us all!
I love tools, but I adore the pretty stuff too. And I believe that romancing the home with lovelies is just as important as the bigger projects! Its all good!

Kim that is my kind of hardware store! I love your red floral picks and they really look so lovely against your white napkins. Such a small purchase can make a pretty difference. Love it! RJ

Oh good. Not only do I love your blog, now I know that I am not the only woman who likes to snoop around in the hardware store. I buy chandelier prisms and turn them in to ornaments. Now I'll have to look harder for flower picks...

Pretty floral picks. I love hardware stores too. We have an independantly run one in our village that also sells interesting home stuff as well as the hardware. They always have really funny window displays with odd items mixed together. It's great that these sorts of places are still managing to survive when there are so many large chain DIY places whereveer you go. We must keep supporting them.

We have a locally owned hardware store in the village where I live. According to the local residents, it's been here forever. Because the homes here are close to a hundred years old it caters to our needs and we can always get those hard to find hinges and other hardware items. We love just snooping around in there from time to time.

What a clever idea! Those are just lovely Kim. I love that shade of red. The flowers would be awesome tucked into a gift box too, or even used to decorate it. I love hardware stores like the one you have described. I have a darling little blue speckled bowl I bought in that type of hardware that I use often at Christmas filled with fresh cranberries. The blue and red look wonderful together. I wish now I had purchased several other pieces of that design and color.

we have a little hardware store like that too... and I love it
because not only do they have the hardware and paint... they have those little treasures like the ones you found... the ones that everyone always asks.... "Now where did you find that ?"...

Those are adorable and so vintage looking as already said. Bringing them to your home was just as important of a project as anyone else's in line!

Hi Kim! What hardware store is that? It sounds exactly like the kind my daughter needs to help her with some things for her new house. She is like me, when we go to Lowes or HomeDepot we get that deer in the headlights look and our husbands don't seem to understand our confusion. As always thanks for your help! Take care, HTH Janet

Sounds like this hardware store knows how to cater to the boys........as well as the girls rofl! Wouldn't those look cute snuggled up in an old straw gardening hat? You better go buy some more Kim! They really do look like the old Millenary flowers! Ohhhh they would make a great little Spring brooch! Ok I am gonna have to hunt me down some flowers like that too! As always such inspiration Kim! xoxo, cherry

We have a hardware store with a huge section of home decor/gifts and they just have the most gorgeous things. It is nice to be able to pop in there for a quick visit withouth fighting the Superstore hectic experience.

And I mean PRETTY side!!
They even have tons of name brands, like Vera Bradley, and such. I love it.
