I always wanted one when I was a little girl. My sister and I spent hours playing with our Barbies and making "shoebox" rooms for our dolls, but neither one of us owned a real doll house. One of the zillion reasons why I love blogging is for all of the inspiration that I get when I visit you. I have drooled and drooled over Jenny's dollhouse for months. If you haven't seen it, you must hop on over and visit this delightful house. I told myself, IF I ever found one at a yard sale, then I would get it and have fun being a "little girl" again. Well, as luck would have it, my sister and I were yard saling on Saturday and this one was waiting for me ~
I bought it for $25 from the nicest couple and their twenty-something daughter who live right here in the neighborhood. It is probably SO silly, but you would not BELIEVE how excited I am over this dollhouse! I've cleaned her up and I have been surfing on ebay for vintage treasures for it. Yesterday I painted the roof and the shutters. Now it will never be as cute and whimsical as Miss Jenny's.... but it sure is going to be a blast playing with my dollhouse dream!!
Hi Kim. I have built one doll house and one general store both of which I gave to my two Granddaughters. They took me months to complete but I had soooooo much fun. The shelves of the general store were fully stocked with can goods, veggies, fruit, baked goods, dishes, hardware and cleaning supplies, fabrics for sewing, a weight scale, coffee grinder and pots and pans. The front porch had a bench, sacks of potatoes and flour and a childs bike. The house was completely furnished and had flower pots on the porch and widow boxes. I have two more kits that I will work on one day. One of them will be for the little grandchild due this June. The ohter will be for me. Have fun with your new treasure!!!

I can relate to this... I never had one growing up BUT my Mom made one for my kids... and OF COURSE it will have to stay at my house... for grandkids to come !! Have fun with your new treasure !

I can just imagine the FuN you are going to have with this ~mini house!~ My daughter and I sold her childhood dollhouse at a garage sale years ago..so I hope that lady appreciates it as much as you do yours!
But then we all know *You* are ~one of a kind!~ Still on route to Florida just popping in to send love.. hugs

You totally scored! I am still kicking myself fro the day, about 10 years ago that I SOLD my doll house. My husband hated it being in the family room, adn I was trying to make him happy...well, I regret it to this day. If I ever am lucky enough to come across another doll house, you'd better beleive I will buy it. You got a steal on this one. Have fun!!!

Oh it looks lovely! What a coat of paint can do. I have longed for a dollhouse too, but there just never seems to be time for one. Maybe when the kids are grown:) I can't wait to see how you dress it up and what fun you will have shopping for your new "house".

WOW! What a GREAT Find! I can't believe it only cost you 25 Bucks?! What a Steal! I love the new paint job...but I thought for sure you would've painted it yellow. No desire to make it look like a mini Daisy Cottage? I can't wait to see how you furnish it...I just know it will be Adorable! I have my dollhouse that my Daddy made for me when I was a kid. I started a make-over on it several years ago, but had to stop work on it. A real house make-over took precedence. HAHAHAHA!! I guess when I finally finish my big house, I'll go back to working on my "little house".

Looks great with its new paint job ~ you will have so much fun with this, and I can't wait to see the results! When my daughter was little, we bought two at yard sales; never paying more than $10 or $20 apiece. We had hours of fun decorating them, and hopefully someday I will do the same with future grandchildren.

How fun, Kim! I never had a dollhouse either...in fact, I was a tomboy & didn't really like dolls all that much. I spent more time playing outside. But, I was in love with my Barbie doll. I still have her in her original blue case from about 1964. She's a bubble-cut Barbie..with platinum hair. Not sure what I'll do with her, but she resides in the guestroom closet for now! :)

I see nothing silly at all about this purchase. I think I'm a little pea-green with envy thinking of the fun you are going to have redoing it. I read just this morning on Every Day is a Holiday blog that she might start making miniature cakes for doll houses. Wouldn't that be a fun addition!

What a great dollhouse you found Kim! Can't wait to see how you decorate it.

Love the doll house! You need to go here:http://www.turkeyfeathers.typepad.com/ and check out the doll house bakery. I'm sure you'll love it!

I had a friend when I was a girl who had a doll house and I thought she was the luckiest girl in the world. For my daughter's 6th birthday my Dad built her a doll house and I still have it. Almost all the furniture in it we bought at consignment stores and yard sales so keep your eyes open. It's now in the room that will be my grandbaby's when he/she comes to visit. You've inspired me-I'll have to post pictures!

I love doll houses. My mother always wanted one too. And, when she sees them she is always tempted to buy one! Now that she has a grandbaby (who is nearly 2 now), she has bought her a dollhouse, but I think she equally love playing with it to!

OH What a lucky lucky lucky girl you are to score that house for so little!! I don't think you are silly at all! I'd so love to have a dollhouse. I just have no clue where i would put it!! It'd be so much fun to decorate.

not silly at all! I have my old wooden one from when I was little just waiting to be done up...can't wait to find time to get around to it! Your dollhouse is gorgeous, thanks for sharing...nel

Hi Kim, I used to make shoebox rooms for my Cindy when I was little!!! But then I was lucky enough to have a dolls house for Christmas one year and from then on I would play with it every day without fail - I loved it.
It will be great to follow your progress with the house; can't wait to see how you decorate it!
I have an old dolls house with a Victorian shop attached to it in the loft - I think maybe it should see the light of day soon!

Wow - this made me jumb for joy. DH and I were just looking at the dollhouses yesterday. He constructed one for my DD (1963) before the dollhouse crazy took over the market. I have always wanted to construct one of those kits but other things took over - such as my doll collection. The little girl inside us never leaves no matter how old we are. Oh what fun you are going to have decorating it. You got a great deal too - was just waiting on you.

Oh, I know how delightfully enchanting re-doing dollhouses can be. Watch out though, once you start you can't stop and before you know it, hours will have passed and you'll look up and suddenly everything will seem HUGE!

I'm so happy you found your doll house! You will have fun with it for sure. Looks like they took really great care of it until you came looking for it. :)

Oooh FUN FUN FUN! I am so into dollhouses right now, too. I think I am going to host a dollhouse furniture swap soon, if you wanna play! I keep thinking about it and thinking about it, maybe I just need to do it!

When my daughter was about 5 years old, I decided she needed a doll house...so for Christmas that is what she got....I spent weeks painting it and shingling it and decorating it! Together, my daughter and I spent hours finding furniture, wallpaper...you name it....It was like a mini dream house....
Now..she is 21 and the dollhouse is in the basement under a sheet....it needs some repairs....I'm not sure where all the furniture is....
I need to get it out...it is so beautiful! Thanks for the reminder!

Kim I am so in love with your dollhouse. I too always wanted one when I was a child and many times as an adult thought about buying one. I would have jumped at one as lovely as yours too for only $25. What a steal. It's in great condition and I love the color changes that you made. I look forward to seeing you dress up your dollhouse as pretty as your house. You are going to have so much fun. RJ

Oh Kim! This is wonderful! : ) I am sooo envious! You got such a neat deal and oh how I can not wait to see what creative you comes up with! It will be gorgeous I know. What fun you will have.
I had the neatest doll house when I was small. It was already 40 years old then...when I was a teen, I allowed a neighbor to *borrow* it for their girls and guess what? Uh huh. Never saw it again. Loooong story. I still think about it and so wish I could work on it with Grace.
Maybe she and I will find a noce old one somewhere...or a new one! That would be a fun project.
You have a blast with it...take lots of pictures!
Have a great week....we are getting up to a foot of snow between now and Wednesday am.
Oh my!
Love,
Sue

Kim I'm really not at all surprised about how pleased you are to have a dolls house. I had one as a child well it was my Mother's actually and she asked for it back and redecorated it and all that when I was grown! We got one for the boys (Don't say I told) and they loved it, spent a lot of time in minature shops and fairs etc and guess what? They were usually the only children there. It would seem that dolls houses are in fact a very grown up sort of hobby. I'm looking forward to seeing your rooms etc, if it's anything like Daisy Cottage it is going to be a dream.

So happy you found a little house of your own....yours will surely be as sweet as Daisy Cottage is and we can't wait to see what you do. Fun, fun, fun for you-- and us!xoC

yay! I'm so happy for you! You'll have to post pictures of how you decorate it...I'm sure it will be just as lovely as your full-sized cottage :)

Kim, Love your dollhouse! There is a "dollhouse" in the window at the Hospice Store right now! But, they are "closed"...because of "NO HEAT"!!! I first saw it Saturday morning...I've been circling that store waiting for them to open, open, open! I really don't think its as good as yours~I've got to get in that store and see it and feel it! LOL! I think "we all" should "find" us one and bring our childhood back! I saw in a magazine where a large vintage dollhouse was used in a utility room, over a washer and drier. It was hanging on the wall, the back of the dollhouse where the "rooms" were held the suppplies: detergent, bleach, paper towels, soaps, iron...it was darling! I'm wondering why you didn't paint your cute dollhouse yellow? I can't wait to see what you do with it!

Kim, I love the doll house, and you aren't alone in your love for them. I often think I really haven't changed too much from when I was 8 - I really love kids' toys, especially dolls and doll houses. You did such a great job with the paint - It really looks great! And thank you so much for coming and visiting me at my blog (www.mycozyhome.typepad.com). I really appreciate it. I've so enjoyed your blog and I will be back often!
