On Monday, Ethel and I picked up my mother and we went shopping. Now that's a real treat to do on a Monday! We visited the make-up counter, stopped in Coldwater Creek, and had fun looking at some purses in a local boutique. I wore my cropped jeans' jacket with a gold flower pin that, of course, had been purchased from a thrift shop. Mom really liked the pin on the jacket. She isn't a "pin girl" herself, BUT she did remember that she had these adorable blue butterfly pins that belonged to her mother, Lena. After we finished our wonderful and leisurely lunch, we went back to Mom's house and she gave me the pins. I WISH you could see them in person ~ the color is so intense and just a beautiful shade of blue. I KNEW as soon as I saw them, that I had to share them with you. A little Monday surprise for me ~ Lena's pretty blue butterflies! Aren't I lucky? I can't wait to wear them! Thanks Mom!
They are beautiful butterflies, and I love the plate too!

Goodness they're beautiful, Kim! The raised detail is exquisite; are they cloisonne? Love the aqua color and they're so, so lovely on that gorgeous plate. What a treat for the eyes and a lift to the soul with their special family meaning. Mom did good. Happy day!

Kim, I love the butterflies. They made me remember my mom had some pink earrings... I always thought they were butterflies, and she had a pin that went with them. They may not be butterflies but when I go to the house next I am going to look for them. Mom had a lot of jewelry like that, I'll have to gather some up to show you. The quilts and the butterflies just hit my "comfort zone". Thank you for sharing. Vicky

I am very late because I just "found" blogs!!!!, but I HAVE to tell you this story!!!
My Mom was a wonderful collector, and her favorite collection was forget-me-not items!!! I LOVE your plate...the butterflys are lovely, and since my Grandmother's name was Lena, they too hold special meaning for me! but ohhhh the plate!!! The REAL kicker in this tome is that my Dad was the first to spot and bring home the occasional forget-me-not item...they never went unnoticed in any garage sale or thrift shop!! The date you made up this post...Jan 31, 2007, would have been their 63rd anniversary!! THANK you with all my heart for this lovely reminder of the two MOST special people in my life!!!

The butterfly pin is really pretty and one-of-a-kind! It's always GREAT to "inherit" stuffs like that for girls and pass along generations .... Lucky you!
