I bought this white cabinet from Goodwill this week for $10. I propped it on a table in our living room. I've always loved these little green and white cups too so they got to come out of hiding and are enjoying their spotlight on the shelves. The envelopes and pretty floral notecard are true treasures of mine....they are letters written to me by my grandparents, who lived "far away" in West Virginia when I was a child. I also placed inside the cabinet the cherished letters that my parents wrote to each other when they were engaged. I don't have very many "objects" from my family's past and until recently the ones that I DO own have been safely stored in my cedar chest. I can't explain why, but for some reason I am wanting my keepsakes in plain sight now... not locked away. I want to see them every day. I'm happy that a little $10 cabinet will be the home for these special letters now.
Wow, Kim, what a great find! It's just perfect and I love how you're using it. Don't you just love Goodwill? I'd go everyday if I could! I do go there nearly weekly for my own "treasure hunt".

What a lovely idea! And such a find! The photo is beautiful...
I have such letters and they are mostly hidden away. You have given me the inspiration to retrieve them and make sure they see more daylight! That way we can read them and enjoy them...
Have a special Sunday.
Warmest wishes,
Sue

You find the best stuff for the least amount of money - it must be a gift. I think the white cabinet is perfect place for your "keepsakes."

You really do find the most fun things at your Goodwill! I even stopped at one in Winter Garden one day when we went to the antique mall because of YOU! But I didn't find a thing.
That cabinet was just waiting for you to give it a good home. It looks great!

I love your shabby cabinet! I have a similar one, except mine is country blue. I found it set in the weeds at an "out of the way" roadside pull-off. The glass window panes were not in it, but were all there and unbroken. It was near a truck scales, and I have always wondered if someone was trying to lighten up and set it aside. My dad helped me restore it and I love it so much!

ROFLOL.....Kim, you visited my blog. You also read my mind, girl - that EXACT silverplated champagne bucket with the same EXACT pearly white glass ornaments is sitting in my Cottage (a 1924 bungalow in Washington State) in my living room on a bookshelf!!!! I bought the bucket for ten bucks at a garage sale - and it was newly polished. Yuk. I sat it in the bathroom whilst taking a shower and let the steam 'age' it a bit. My husband thinks I am insane. No, I am just a vintage-inspired thrifting decorator! And YOU are one of my tribe!!!!!!So happy to meet you!

What a great way to use your fab find! I like how you want to display your old letters. Didn't folks of yesteryear have such neat handwriting?

$10 ...are you kidding? You find the coolest stuff and how much do we love those letters peeking out the window! Sweet, Kim!

How beautifully you've gathered your treasures together, Kim. I wish letter-writing wasn't becoming such a lost art; letters have so much more meaning than most e-mails, written from the heart, the letter-writer focused on the task and the recipient. Not a multi-tasked, dashed-off e-mail, but a true treasure in paper and pen. I know you're enjoying seeing these each day.

How beautiful your cabinet is - but more beautiful... the love that is being treasured inside! A great find!
* By the way - thank you for the kinds words about my "red vintage cabinet". I just love simple things! Things like your new little cabinet will bring joy for years to come!
