Let Your Home Be Your Heart

  • What I hope for my readers and for all keepers of the nest, is that they embrace their homes with their heart and all of the passion that it holds. I want them to know that they can decorate on a limited budget by seeing things in new ways; by rescuing the broken and transforming the ugly. I hope that they flaunt their favorite color and decorate their life with it. I hope that their homes feel like one giant hug that welcomes them each and every time they walk through their front door. More than anything I want everyone to have their own home-sweet-home dream come true! xo, Kim

I agree Kim! I don't know what I would do without my studio. I work, create and just dabble...cheapest stress relief I know. ;)
Although, by the picture, I do believe your 'spot' is much, much cleaner than mine.

MimiG

Love your office - it's so cheerful! It's great to see the place where you do so much of your creative writing, as well as it's a place I can "sneak" a few ideas from!
How's Dan?

Hi, Kim! I just found your blog and I LOVE it! It's so cute, colorful and full of info, eye candy. I just finished up my own spot, my dream craft/workspace. I agree with you 100% about each of us having our own space. Where are you located in central FL? My brother has a beautiful historical home on the main street in High Springs FL. I'm gonna put your blog in my favorites. Check out my blog for pictures of my new craft room.

Totally agree! I love your toile desk skirt and all the wonderfully bright colors in your office.

Cindy

Your office is sooo nice, I love the way you put such nice colors together. You are so courageous to do so. I always admire your pure colors. I have a room of my own, but alas I have no place for a desk in there, that will change as I figure out how and where to put it. Thanks for your lovely post. Hugs ~cindy s~

Megan

I love your house! It's so bright and colorful and cheery. I agree with having your own spot. As my hubby and I remodel our house and welcome in our baby in a couple months, I still see the need for our own spaces. He might not get his "man cave" but I'm going to try to give him a nice tv room that is more "manly" than the rest our house. Somewhere he can have friends over, play games, and watch tv and not have anything too girly in there (which may be hard as we are having a daughter and it'll also be a family tv room!). Some day... :)

Joni-MI

Your office is so lovely, Kim. Your whole house is, but this space has a serenity to it that comes through the photos to us! Here's my little workspace...I just love going in, putting a movie in and getting that sewing machine going!

Good morning sweet Kim :)

Your spot looks beautiful. I love the toile you've added in there. It is new isn't it? :)

I'm so happy to hear Dan is doing better! I hope he's able to go home soon.

You can see my spot in this post here:

Love you,

Kim, I'm so, so, SO glad he's better. That is a terrifying thing to have happen. I have you all in my thoughts.

Speaking of thoughts, I still haven't figured out how to link back to you! I know how to do it w/ Mr. Linky, but I'm hopeless otherwise.

I love your spot! It's wonderful. One of my spots is my antique bed in our getaway. I love to pile in there with its wonderful mattress and array of pillows and snooze, read, and dream. I have a basket beside the bed that has a stash of favorite magazines. The basket also holds two little pillows that I sometimes add to the pillows on the bed and sometimes not.

If I could figure out how to link up, I would, but I could link to yesterday's post or today's.

Love you...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Virginia Woolf said that,"A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction." And all creative endeavors I might add. Thank you for your lovely blog.

I just wish my "spot" were as neat and well decorated as yours. So glad to hear that Dan is doing better.

I'd be in project heaven if I had a space such as this....mine...well...let's just say I was born in a barn....I rent space from my shopkeeper friend in her horse barn....it works though, and I can paint up a storm and not worry about the mess.

I DO keep it tidy, though.

So true how we all need and deserve our own space in our home...

In each home we have owned I have taken a room, or a corner of a spare bedroom and turned it into my own. I am lucky in our current home that Hubby and I each have our own room as our separate office space. Mine is girly and his has no style at all... just how he likes it! LOL

I couldn't agree more. Right now I share my 'space' with the laundry room but even with that I feel blessed to have one at all. It forces me to get very creative with how I use that space. ~ It also allows me to dream about my future spot! :-)

I agree, Kim. I finally have a studio/office just for me. I am in there every morning, very early; usually I am creating, but sometimes I just sit there at my desk, or lay on my little sofa and feel grateful for so many things, including my little space, just for me. Mine is mostly red and black, as well and now I am very inspired to add some yellow! I love your space. Thank you!

dotsie

What a nice idea, Kim, and of course I love your bright and cheery office. Glad Dan had a better day./ dotsie

Andrea at Opulent Cottage

We never get tired of our toile, do we?!! I just reworked my desk and by some miracle it was cleaned off today, so I uploaded my photo on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/opulentcottage Sadly, it's not usually this clean. But now that I've spruced it up, I'm definitely more motivated, so I would highly recommend that to other messy girls like me!!
So glad to hear the good news about your mom's hubby... xoxo

Colleen

Your spot is just precious! I don't have a place that is all mine but maybe I need to try to make one!

So happy to hear that Dan is better! Hopefully he will have a full recovery and you will be back with us. We have missed you!

hi kim,

i'm happy to hear that dan had a good day.

i totally agree about having one's own space in which to create, work, be inspired. i have a little downstairs bedroom that i have turned into "the girly office". if you visit my blog and scroll down past the posts, you will see photos of it: http://tinkeredtreasures.blogspot.com/

it was even featured in creative home magazine. what a treat that will always be for me.

thanks for the lovely post. always wonderful to read your blog.

Hello Kim, I am so glad for Dan doing a little better. I said a prayer for him. It's just nice knowing people are pulling for you. Love your little spot and your color scheme. The red just moves me. I love it. I am working on my spot right now trying to give it that special touch. It's fun envisioning it! Have a blessed day!

I love your office! It's so cheerful.

I'm glad to hear that Dan is doing better. When a person has a stroke, it's good to get them talking and moving, as soon as, possible. The brain needs to be stimulated to start forming new pathways. There is usually a certain amount of spontaneous recovery within the first week.

Lynn@thevintagenest

I feel like I am the luckiest person in the world to have a whole room to fix, putter, mess, create, pack, glitter, sew, iron, cut, blog, communicate, learn and day dream in. Plus I get an occasional tail wag and smile from my partners. :) Hope Dan is getting better day by day.

Jennifer @ Fiddle Dee Dee

Wow Kim! What a gorgeous space you have!I can see why you can slip away and relax while you work. The colors are so wonderful...the red especially is my favorite. It makes me smile just to look at it!
I am glad Dan is getting better. I hope you guys are doing well also.

I've just discovered your blog (through a comment to one of my posts) and I love your home. It's beautiful. Just looking at your office drew me in! We have a lot in common. I have the exact toile fabric, the same framed memo board and we share our love of doxies! I'm still experimenting with accent colors and I love your red and yellow with the black and white.

Congratulations on your feature in Country Sampler! How exciting!

Kim,
You are so right...thanks for sharing your spot...it is really sweet!

I'm in love with the colors of your house, they are similar to mine! I just posted about my own space, which is my craft space. http://thecozychickadee.blogspot.com/2009/03/my-very-own-spot.html. Check it out, everyone! I would love to hear your comments!

Sweet Cottage Dreams

Hellooooo SWEET KIM!

I could not agree with you more on having your own space. There are many changes I want to do this year in our home and one of them is to find a place to put the computer and have a little quiet office area.

YOUR area is so cute! My favorite part of your office are all of the windows that let the sunshine in.

You know I love Daisy Cottage!!! I was even showing Barry the pictures in the magazine and pointed out where Spencer, Laura and I sat at your dining room table!!

Dan and your family remain in my prayers. Take each day one day at a time. It is wonderful that you are able to go and visit him and be with your mother, too.

(((hugs))) to each one of you,
Becky

Anne Marie

I couldnt' agree more...and with all of life's pushes, our home needs to be a peaceful spot of rest-

I just think I need to get you to come up from Florida to Alabama and help me do a special spot! :) You are so talented!! And I am so glad to hear about Dan!! We are continuing to pray for him at least three times a day. :)

Lavender Dreamer

I'm glad to hear Dan is doing better. I know how scary health issues can be when you get older. I love your special space. I've been blessed to have room for my pretty things and creative projects and now I don't even think of them as luxuries. But I am older and don't have kids at home any more. I have 4 sons and can remember when I thought the bathroom with the door closed was a rare luxury! heehee!

B

Can you please tell me what your desk is constructed from? Is it a regular dining table?
I've been trying to find an idea similar to what you have. I also love the idea of the material draping around the edge too, and was wondering how you've attached it.
Thank you for all of your wonderful ideas and images that you share.
Wish all the best for you and loved ones.

Cyberdelia

I LOVE having my own space, too! My desk/creative space/studio is definitely "mine"...it's where I string little white lights, display all my kitschy candle holders and figurines, a pink lava lamp, colorful, whimsical postcards, Goddess statues, random silly things like a Hello Kitty stamp, favorite magnets, little stuffed animals, stacks of books, art supplies...I could go on and on! LOL! I adore and cherish my little wildly whimsical spot. It inspires me to create every day. :-)

Julia @ Hooked on Houses

One of my best girlfriends is getting married this year, and one of her biggest concerns is that they'll be living in a one-bedroom apartment after the wedding, and she is used to having her own room to work in. I think that would be hard to give up! When we built our house, we made sure that my husband and I each had a study of our own because we learned from experience that it was too difficult to share! ;-)

P.S. I hope Dan continues to have better days! Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Sharon

I love your very own spot. Very nice indeed. Lots of goodies in there too.

Amanda

I'm laughing because my husband teases me and says that in every room of our home (including our covered patio) has a spot that says "Amanda". It's usually a place where I sit and look at quilting magazines or decorating books.

He painted my quilting studio and put up shelving while I was away on a quilting retreat last year. It's odd, but I haven't shown photos of it, yet, on my blog. It seems when I get it cleaned up, it gets messy before I can shoot pictures!

Thanks for sharing your little space with us. It's beautiful.

dolly

tudo aqui é magico e maravilhoso, parabéns, Dolly

Connie

Your office makes me smile. I LOVE all of the red accents with the black & white toile. Your whole blog is inspiring. I found myself smiling as I flipped pages.

thanks so much!

Reading your blog is such therapy for me. You have made me treasure the finer things in life that I use to overlook. Birds singing, flowers blooming, my home and all of the treasures within it. I'm not sure that I ever looked at a teacup or saucer and saw such detail and beauty in it." ~ Dena

Since I was diagnosed with an immune disease a year ago I wanted only to read positive and very inspiring blogs and your blog was the first I found. I think maybe the good Lord meant for me to find your blog and since then it has been nothing but smiles all around. I have tried very hard to stay positive about this disease and very up beat. I know that there is no cure and I have accepted this, but reading things with a positive message and filled with so much love helps. This is where you come in and I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart and to let you know how very much you and Miss Maggie are loved." ~ Grace

Then I found Daisy Cottage and a whole community of other women who shop the side of the road, paint their furniture fun colors, and aren't afraid to fill their homes with touches of whimsy and fun. What a relief! We aren't alone! I'm not alone. Thanks for all your inspiration and for confidently sharing your home and the idea that we can have fun with our decorating. Until that time lace tablecloths will come out of storage, music and lovely scents will fill the air of this home. And I shall visit the Daisy Cottage when I feel despair raise its dark, obscuring head, for I know from experience, that it is ever lurking behind that next bout of pain and weakness. I came to your blog looking for pictures to inspire me as I redecorate my house with cottage style. Today I was so tangled up in doing it "right" that it was really depressing me. I visited your blog again for some fresh ideas and came away realizing that there is no "right." Just me being me and enjoying my home!
