Paula Deen Tour
Of course we can't visit Savannah without visiting Miss Paula. Today, we are going on the official Paula Deen Tour! We will see the home where she raised her boys and began making her sandwiches and we will visit the little church where she and Michael recently married. We will also stop and have lunch at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House, which is her brother's restaurant. But the BEST part about being on the tour is that we will have the opportunity to secure a reservation at The Lady and Sons, Paula's restaurant, without having to wait in line with the all of the others!
Are we ready? Let's go!
This is the market that Paula would always get the produce for her business, The Bag Lady, that started it all.....(I took alot of pictures here because I LOVE the colors in fruits and vegetables!)
The sweet market kitty....
The church that Paula and Michael were married in... this is located on a beautiful boys' ranch that Paula generously supports. A morning service is being held right now for the boys, so we can't go in this time.
The home where Paula raised her boys and made her first meals to sell....
Her brother's restaurant.....
A picture of Paula and Bubba on the wall...
Paula's husband, Michael, still drives his beloved red truck to work ......
This is Paula's gift shop, located right next to her restaurant....
And this is her restaurant....
Are you hungry? I know I am! ;-)
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumy! The girl can cook, that's for sure!
Well, I hope you enjoyed our stay in Savannah - I know that I can't wait to go back! If you have never been to this romantic, southern city, I hope you have the chance to one day... you will fall in love with Savannah's charm and beauty. I promise.

I LOVE Paula Deene and hope to visit there someday. My friend was able to eat at the restaurant after a very loooong wait in line to make reservations. She said it was worth the wait. Thanks for sharing snippets of your trip.
Hugs - Karen

Hi Kim,
I'm so happy I stopped by this morning. We're leaving for the city around noon, checking in at the hotel. J's surgery is tomorrow morning bright and early. The 100 mile round trip commute is a bit much for me these days, especially with poor night vision! So staying at the hotel is a great option.
Anyhow! What a great post. I love Paula and she cooks J's kind of food! I've read her book and now have images I hadn't seen before, to put with the words.
Thanks!
Pat

Thanks for taking us on the tour. I wondered if you would stop by Lady and Sons while you were in Savannah. I love that city! I've been there briefly one time and had a fabulous tour and time spent there. I can't wait for the time when my sweetheart can go back and see more. ~Adrienne~

Thanks for sharing your photos. If you bought her latest book you will see a page to Mr Howard. In a picture Paula and the boys are holding up pepper mills. Howard is a woodworker and makes the most beautiful pepper mills. He gave each of them one last year. This year he gave each of them salt mills. Howard and Marion are very good friends of mine.

What a trip you've had. Paula Deen has turned into the Martha Stewart of the down-home types, hasn't she?

Ooooh I loved the photos of the restaurant! We always included a visit to the Lady and Sons when we go to Savannah. It truly is about the best meal you will ever eat! A few years ago we had our Thanksgiving dinner there and got to meet Jaime. He came over to our table and spent about 15 minutes talking with us. He gave my mom and me hugs and kisses (my mom swooned!) and chatted with us like we were long lost family members. And that's a big secret to their success...very down to earth people and you feel like you know them...like they are family. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure in Savannah! xo ~ Joy J.

~ Kim,
YOU ARE SO LUCKY!!! I am so jealous it's not even funny. When we went to Savannah last month, we tried to get reservations but we couldn't. However, I did go into her lovely store and bought the Deen Bros. book. They are just as adorable as Ms.Paula is don't you think?
Have a lovely day,
Stephanie

Ahhh, another travel-free vacation. Thanks for taking me along. A friend of mine had the pleasure of having dinner with Paula a year or two ago. It was a small group in the home of a friend. She said Paula was just a doll, very down to earth and funny!

My husband and I stopped into her gift shop when we were there in November. I was looking for a unique gift for my husband's aunt & uncle who graciously agreed to watch our daughter while we were gone. I was very disappointed to see that a large amount of her offerings were made in China. In a city brimming with talented artisans, I don't understand why the shop feels the need to import items for sale. I think it'd be far more successful if she sold items made by Savannah/Georgia artisans...but that's just me. We opted not to purchase anything there and went across the street to a local artist's shop.
Looks like y'all had a great time! I so love Savannah and can't wait to go back!
