One of my favorite songs, ever, is "Morning Has Broken". The sweet lyrics, written by Eleanor Farjeon, in 1922 (which coincidentally is the same year that Daisy Cottage was built) always seem to speak softly to my soul....
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day.
I can honestly say that I try to never miss the chance to say hello to a brand new morning. They ARE precious. They ARE beautiful and we are blessed to have them. Mornings are to be treasured. To me, they are THAT special.
My favorite mornings are when I take the time to witness them on the back porch where I can be entertained with the rambunctious antics of the neighborhood squirrels and listen to the many spirited birds who share this little patch of land with us. I smile when I see that a new red bloom has emerged during the night, treating our eyes to glorious color.
I choose to sit in my white rocker because it is like an old friend to me. We've been together forever. I so love its' chippy paint and weathered lines. They are little details that, to me, make this rocking chair more comforting - more beautiful.
Before I sit, however, I like to reach into my china cabinet and choose an extra pretty cup to celebrate that first, hot cup of coffee that I am about to enjoy! I truly believe in using our pretty things every day. And a beautiful morning such as this one definitely calls for that.
Ah yes, morning has broken indeed. True bliss! A simple rocking chair, a pretty cup, hot coffee, and a sweet morning to witness - just beautiful. This is one of the ways that I find beauty every day. I hope that you can savor a few moments of YOUR mornings too, for it is your GIFT to receive. Please be kind to yourself and OPEN IT.
*This post is in honor of "Inspiration Week" at The Inspired Room. Melissa kindly asked me to contribute to her week long celebration of finding "beauty everyday". Celebrating mornings is one of the ways that I do - "mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning". Please visit Melissa and The Inspired Room for its' sweet beauty too.*
My friend, Gina, found this daisy bowl for me while thrifting one day. Isn't it cute?
And I LOVE this French bucket from Vintage - I think it makes a wonderful container for my sunflowers -
Now, should I paint these chairs white???? Tell me what YOU think - pretty please?
I'm such a lucky girl! This whimsical, polka-dotted "K" was a wonderful surprise in my mail box last week. My cottage-soul-sister, Tina, sweetly gave me one of her daughter's adorable letter creations! Mika is VERY talented isn't she? Hmmm - wonder where she gets it from? ;-) And of course, you KNOW I love my special "K" with its' too-cute daisy!
Thank you Tina! Thank you Mika! What sweethearts you both are!
And Tina, please get well soon! xoxoxoxoxoxoxox
Friends are the REAL jewelry in your life... and they also hold the key to your heart.
They love you no matter what. They are always THERE for you. Even if they are far away.
I hope you have many of these kinds of friends in your life.
Vicky is one of those friends... look at what was delivered to Daisy Cottage's porch yesterday..
She so thoughtfully sent these BEAUTIFUL flowers to me in celebration of this.
I was really, really touched. Thank you so much Vicky!! Thank you for always being there. I know you "get it" just like ALL OF YOU do - you "get" the little things - the big things - the everyday things... you "get" THE MOMENTS IN LIFE.
And you'll always, ALWAYS hold a key to my heart.
