Lucy's Game Pieces
Remember when Charlotte sweetly sent me this game board? Well, after I shared it on my blog, dear Kathy from Vermont, emailed me and asked if I would like to have the game pieces for the " The Glad Game". I said that I would LOVE to have them! She told me that the pieces had come from her husband's grandmother's house.
This beautifully wrapped package arrived a few days ago. Attached to it was a card with a handwritten note from Kathy that I will now treasure forever too. In her note, she shares about the game pieces -
"...these came from my husband's grandmother's house. When I looked to see how many pieces were there, I was puzzled by the marbles in the box. Then I realized their intent. Lucy McCollough raised four boys and one girl through the depression. Her husband was a logger and a trucker. Just like many others, they "made do". I imagine game pieces went missing over time, so marbles were substituted."
Sigh. Can you imagine Lucy and her five children lovingly playing "The Glad Game" together, during the Great Depression? What a precious thought. Something tells me that even though it WAS the Great Depression, they, as a family, had much to be glad about... for they had each other and they knew, first-hand, how that was all that really mattered. They were very, very WISE back then.
Thank you Kathy, SO MUCH, for passing these little tokens of a family's treasured past on to me. You know that I will keep these here, safe and sound, and will love them always.

What a sweet, sweet thing to send you to finish out your little treasure. Another Pollyana fan here ;)

Totally impressed here. That was such a nice thing for her to do. I am a hugh fan of anything graphic and the colors and graphics of this game board and box are awesome. I'd have to hang it on a wall, so I could see it every day, I think...lol

Hi Kim,
This post makes me think of how nervous I was to enter into "blogging land".
I don't expect you to remember but I came upon "blogging land" via a family blog that was started for my mother-in-laws b'day party so all the family from around the country could plan the surprise.
One day ,I can't even remember how I got to your site, I entered this land and each time I come back I am always touched by how kind everyone is and just how much I take away each time I visit.
Thank you for sharing this sweet post !!!
And thank you to all the other bloggers that I enjoy so much. Someday I may even get brave enough to have my own !!!
Have a great week-end, gonna be a cold one in the NE...it was 65 yesterday :)
Kathy :)
XOXO

wow, such a sweet and thoughtful gift. i think this reminds us that sometimes you make do with what you have, and all you really need id time with friends and family. especially this time of year when people stress about not getting "enough" for others, or getting caught up in their busy life. this was a great post kim, thank you for sharing.
