I wanted to share a couple of sweet, happy things that have arrived in my mail! I was the VERY lucky winner of Helle's giveaway and my prizes are BEAUTIFUL! Helle is adorable herself and SO creative.  Her pictures on her site are much prettier so please go see them. Oh my! So many goodies! Vintage treasures galore! The teapot is adorable too. I know I will enjoy using it all the time here at Daisy Cottage.

She'll Be Back

Img_2789_medium_2

Shannon will be back, right? Just because she's now gone away to college doesn't mean it's over, does it? You know, the whole motherhood thing? How can one heart be so filled with pride and happiness AND at the same time feel like it is breaking?  Sigh. It will be okay Maggie.....

Mo's Banana Cake Recipe

Img_2712_large_medium

Happy Monday! Here is a sweet treat to help get your week off to a yummy start! I got this wonderfully EASY and delicious recipe from my on-line decorating friend, Maureen.  She is fabulously talented - everything she touches turns to gold. I made her recipe yesterday for my hubby for Father's Day. It was a big hit and I must say, it tastes even better today! Soooooo good! Oh, and isn't the "Pop" cup cute? That is what our niece and nephew call my husband and I was so tickled when I found the cup at Goodwill!

Mo's Banana Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Cake:

1 box yellow cake mix

2 whole eggs

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup milk

1 tsp. baking soda

2 large, ripe bananas; mashed (or use three small)

Frosting:

6 oz. cream cheese

1 tsp. vanilla

3/4 cup softened butter

4 cups powdered sugar

1 tablespoon cream or milk

Mix cake ingredients together and refer to baking time/temp as directed on package.

For Frosting: Beat softened cream cheese, butter and vanilla until well blended. Add remaining ingredients. Frost cake after it has cooled.

Somebody Loves You

Img_2697_medium
Maggie had a wonderful time this morning on our back porch, enjoying the sun and some undivided attention. She wanted me to tell you that she loves YOU and thanks you SO much for your kind support when she was being terribly mistreated the other day. She hopes you have a WONDERFUL weekend too.   ;-)

Bedroom Corners

Img_2627_small

Isn't it so nice when your home is all clean and your bed is ACTUALLY made? I thought I'd share a few corners of our bedroom. This green cottagy bed tray has certainly come in handy when one of us is sick AND it is fun to decorate with as a cute-just-because cottagy display. I love my "hand" that is on top of the cabinet. My sister and brother-in-law brought that back for me from the Savannah School of Art and Design.

This old window pane was one of many given away for free from a neighbor's home. For now, I thought I'd simply tape up a few vintagy cards and hang one of my straw bags on it.

Img_2634_small Img_2635_medium

In this corner, there is just enough room for the red table -

Img_2624_small

No, there is no glamour master suite to be found here at Daisy Cottage. Just an old-fashioned bedroom, located off of the little center hall, with just enough space for a few pieces of furniture and a bed.

Img_2621_small

It is the smallest bedroom that we've ever had, but it is definitely the coziest. And, luckily for me, I do prefer cozy over lavish any day.  :-)

Pick Me Up, Mommy!

Img_2641_small

Sigh. Maggie is not happy right now. She is upset with me. I didn't let her have her morning time on my lap. She has been SO thankful that I entered the world of blogging because her lap time has greatly increased while I am visiting your blogs and drinking my required two cups of coffee! But not this morning. You know how I am. I never know when the mood to move something will happen - I just know that it WILL happen! ;-) I can be in my pajamas, I can be all dressed up to go out, I can be headed to beddie bye. The urge to move things just happens when it happens. Unfortunately for Miss Maggie, this urge occurred as I poured my first cup of coffee. She was none too happy when I told her to go do the dreaded thing - go lay down. She was banished to THE FLOOR!  Anyway, this favorite chair of mine has been moved around MORE than anything else here at Daisy Cottage. I love it in the kitchen, I love it in the family room, I love it in my office! Now how about near the front door? I think this will be fun and cozy for awhile! A nice spot to read, a nice spot to view the porch and street, and oh yes - a nice spot for holding a VERY spoiled (but so darn lovable) doxie on my lap!

Img_2640_small_2_small_2

*edited* to add a close up view of my little chair "embellishment"  ;-)

Just for fun and a different look, I draped this yellow vintage pillow case over the back of the chair. Then I layered it with a green fabric square that I got from Hancock's. I added some whimsy by hot gluing the red trim. Quick and easy! Right up my alley! Have a great weekend!

Growing Landscapes

518241312_915903902f_b_medium

My landscape collection is growing! As you can see, I still have space for a few more!  It has been really fun to simply hang them as I bring them home, instead of keeping them waiting in a closet until I had the "right" amount. Each one of these is special and beautiful in its' own way and NONE of them cost more than $5. This office, which took on the life as a "vintage travel" room has been the easiest room to decorate. Once I knew the direction that I wanted it to go in, gathering the goods has been a blast! Vintage suitcases, hats, globes, yard sticks, walking canes... seemed to call my name and all were found in thrift shops and yard sales. I still want to find a little area rug, maybe a zebra one! Check out the funky lamp shade from Salvation Army...

Img_2474_small

I'm REALLY bad about measuring anything too - and you will note that the landscapes are not spaced evenly. The no-stress way this room has come together has been so nice. As soon as we throw "perfection" out the window we are having FUN, right? And that is what decorating should be ALL about!

Shawn and Marley

Marles_medium_2_2

Meet our son, Shawn. He adopted Marley from the SPCA several years ago. Marley loves "his boy". I LOVE this picture because these two have THE sweetest, most loving souls, and I think that was truly captured in their eyes.
