Keep Dreaming

Img_1124_small_small

"There are many who would argue that Eddie Guest was not a true poet-but a sentimentalist in verse. He was never worldly or deep. He endeared himself to millions by expressing the simple, folksy virtures of family, fireside and fellowship of man."

This is a quote from an article published in a Detroit newspaper in 1959 on the death of Edgar Guest. It was tucked away inside my 1926 copy of "The Light of Faith".

As a sentimentalist myself, Mr. Guest's prose has always touched my heart and soothed my soul. He most definitely is a "true poet" to me. This is one of my favorites-

                                    Imagination

The dreamer sees the finished thing before the start is made;

He sees the roses pink and red beyond the rusty spade,

And all that bleak and barren spot which is so bare to see

Is but a place where very soon the marigolds will be.

Imagination carries him across the dusty years,

And what is dull and commonplace in radiant charm apears.

The little home that he will build where willows bend and bow

Is but the dreamer's paper sketch, but he can see it now.

He sees the little winding walk that slowly finds his door,

The chimney in its ivy dress, the children on the floor,

The staircase where they'll race and romp, the windows where will gleam

The light of peace and happiness----the house that's STILL A DREAM.

You see the weeds and rubbish there, and ugliness and grime,

But he can show you where there'll be a swing in summer time.

And he can show you where there'll be a fireplace rich with cheer,

Although you stand and shake your head and think the dreamer queer.

Imagination! This it is the dreamer has today;

He sees the beauty that shall be when time has cleared the way.

He reads the blueprint of his years, and he can plainly see

Beyond life's care and ugliness----the joy that is to be.

Please keep dreaming, dear friends ~~~~~~~ always and forever. xo, Kim

Oh yes - spring is in the air and Girl Scouts selling their sweet cookies will soon be EVERYWHERE - treat yourself today and grab a box or two!  Your tummy will be soooooo glad that you did!

Hardware Store

Img_1018_medium_small

We have the neatest, locally owned hardware store nearby. Actually, it is located right by the grocery store where I shop. Even when Home Depot and Lowe's rode into town, this store not only survived, it flourished! Yes you can find nuts and bolts and hammers and nails BUT on the left-hand side of the store you can ALSO find pretty household things. Things that you just wouldn't expect to find in a regular old hardware store. Like these pretty red floral "picks" - or whatever you call them. I thought they would be a nice little pop of happy color for the table.  I felt kind of guilty being in line behind the customers with their newly-made keys, rolls of wire, plumbing supplies, and chain link. You could tell that they had some serious projects on their mind and that they just wanted to get home and get to work on them. I, however, just waited patiently with my four little floral thingys, playing in my head as to how I was going to use them. When it was my turn, I happily paid for my purchases and went about my business of going grocery shopping. Yes, I think I like these kind of hardware stores! They carry the IMPORTANT STUFF!    ;-)

Around the Block

It is sunny and 59 degrees outside this Monday afternoon. My camera and I went for a little walk around the block. Thought I'd take you with me! These pictures reflect just a FEW of the reasons why I absolutely love my neighborhood. I hope you enjoy seeing them and next time we'll go downtown, which is just a little lake away.

Plate on a Pedestal

Img_0950_medium

Oooooooooooh ~ I'm in love! Isn't this vintage "plate on a pedestal" made by Tina absolutely beautiful? She so sweetly boxed up THIS pretty creation, a locally made candle AND the most delicious home-town nut bread from "Leon's Pastry Shop"...as a thank you gift for the little, teeny-tiny bit of help that I had given her. I think, well no, I KNOW that I got the best end of this deal! Oh my gosh! Something gorgeous to own and cherish, something so fragrantly divine AND something so incredibly yummy???  Thank YOU dear Tina!  I love having you and your wonderful Cherry Hill Cottage represented in our home!

Trimmings

Img_0918_medium

Oh what a difference a little trim can make! These plain lamp shades were dressed up in a manner of minutes with a hot glue gun. I LOVE quick and easy projects! Hmmm ~ what else needs a little trimming around here???
